Today we're looking at comparing a $1,000.00 camera VS an $8,000.00 camera. Specifically, the 80D vs the 1DXMK2. I have seen the 80D on sale as low as 999.99 which is why I went with that comparison price. Keep currency conversions in mind.
2 MASSIVELY different cameras. You may be saying, why would you compare 2 cameras on such a drastically different scale? That makes no sense and no one would ever compare those two - Yes and No. I wanted to go over a few of the features that MAKE a camera 8,000.00 opposed to those that don't. The quality difference is also incredibly evident.

Experiences over gear any day.
You can spend a fortune on plastic surgery, but you'd still be ugly from the inside.
I'd take the week long trip and make the best of it, travelling to as many interesting (not exotic, per say) places as possible and capture those moments. You do not need expensive equipment to tell a story, and as such the $1000 camera would suit me best (currently rocking the Nikon D5100 - cheap, but gets the picture snapped - would obviously love an upgrade + some new glass but that's besides the point).

The way Canon names their products is rather counter intuitive. one digit tends to be the top tier camera for a given use case, two digits tends to be a mid-tier, and three is typically a starter cam.
So the SD card alone is more than my total budget ! :D

I just bought an 80d this Xmas 2017. I’m still getting to learn all about it. I am coming from a t3i. In my opinion, anyone can be a photographer, so long you know basics and shoot raw with a good computer for post production. The new gadgets will make your life easier providing a better pre production product. Be creative, don’t get discourage because you have a cheaper camera. Go out and shoot. I am discovering this universe a little bit more everyday day and it’s so amazing!

I am shooting with the 80D for three years now and I am really happy with this awesome camera. I can always rely on it.
With this camera I have also shooted on rainy days, during snowfall etc and never got any problems.
If you have enough money left for it, the 80D is perfect to start with in photography, cause this is exactly what I did.
Well I had a Kodak Compactcamera with 5 M before (No M-Mode, no manual focus, no different lenses)... Don't know if this really counts. ^^
So yeah: The 80D is great! Go for it. :)

Bought myself an 80d earlier this year, and have to say I absolutely love it. The tilt LCD screen is a real bonus.

Just to clarify the sensor doesnt change the focal length of a lens it only changes the outcome. A 50mm lens is a 50mm lens whether it's on full frame, cropped sensor (aps-c), large format, etc.
Gear doesn't really matter, it's what you make of what you have. That's real art

Yes but good gear gives you many more creative options to produce the art that you have in mind. The astrophotography "art" that I want to create is literally impossible with my current gear. Cannot be done.
gear is great, we love gear, but experience is better and instead of buying a new lens or camera buy a plane ticket to go somewhere, and you will get much better pictures than if you had bought a new lens or camera. i shoot with an a6000, some people will say that is an outdated camera for beginners but i shoot landscapes like this 500px.com/mariuschristensen and i don't need some fancy camera, i've had my a6000 to the faroe islands in rain and dropped it and it's still held up, people are too gear orientated and in my opinion they should shut up and go out and shoot some more :D

Love my 80D...for video. For photos, its a bit softer than I'd like. I'm switching to Sony. A7R III. Autofocus isn't quite as good, but I shoot manual anyway, so it's not an issue. If your main focus is video, you can't go wrong with the 80d. The 1DX is a beast, though. Full frame made the image quality substantially better. More light, sharper focus. The pores on your nose were far more prominent with the 1DX lol.

Here's the thing...
The $8K rig footage looks better IMO because of the shoot (darker, lighting, etc...), but I'm sure side by side, the $1K rig would just about "as" good and you'd have to put the footage up next to each other on a split screen to be able to discern the differences.
In the right hands, even a $500 DSLR would come close with it's video quality. That being said, there's a reason $8K cameras cost what they cost and IMHO, for the pro, they are definitely worth it. For us mere mortals, PFFFT! Give me the lowly T5i or even a T3i or a T7i (MMMM!) and I'm good.

Just got one. Arrived last night. Video kit. It's awesome! By the time I learn video, I suspect the next version with 4k will be out, perhaps? Stills are lovely too. Great travel camera I bet. With the 18-135 lens I can get great shots without hauling my 6d with those heavy L lenses around.
i have a canon m100 which has a 24mp aps-c size sensor, so in the core aspect for taking pictures, it's a mini 80d without a bunch of buttons, extra pro functionalities, weather sealing, viewfinder, longer battery life, and... yeah, i think that's it for significant factors. the day i *need* weather sealing i'll get a cheap 80d (used on ebay offers are really good) with... idk, a ef 40mm 2.8 (ending up as a 64mm). but meanwhile... the m100 with the 22mm f/2 and sigma 56mm f/1.4 gets me absolutely *gorgeous* results, personal photography wise.

You sold me on the Canon 80D. It'd be nice to have the bells and whistles of an 8000 dollar camera, but I just need something that I can vlog at night with. Right now I'm using a Canon Vixia HF M50 and it does a great job, but the night footage is grainy and I wanted to fix that problem. I bought a Powershot SX730 HS without thinking too much into it because there's not a lot of reviews on it, but I really appreciated this video and now I know what direction I need to go. Thanks Peter, I've learned so much from you to help my channel.

I think there should be a priority. The most important thing is picture quality. So I put sensor size, quality and pixel numbers in the first place. Second one is professional quality, so I put lense quality in the second place, such as bigger aperture size and wider local lengthy range and good stabilization ability. The last priorities are the rest parts, such as focus points, foldable display, touch display, battery size, portability, Wi-Fi support, and so many on.

Hey, Peter...I loved your "Find Me at 4K" film with the Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II.
I know Olympus made some major improvements to that camera for video over the original E-M1 that I own. But I'd love to see what can be done with an original E-M1, pushed to its limits by a real artist. I have the latest firmware, which allows 24 fps.
This is largely to help me get rid of my camera envy.

What is the best frame i should interpret for a 60fps to get that smooth slow motion ?
In premiere pro
usually i use 50% that should 30fps
Shooting at 60fps and rendering in 30 or 24 will give you half speed slowmo, but if your camera can shoot in 120 it will be about 1/4 speed at 30 fps.
*If you right click your footage in the project bin select modify > interpret footage > select "assume this footage" and change it to 24.*
Also make sure your shutter speed is twice the frame rate when filming to get the best looking slow motion

Or that having a 1/60th exposure is not enough to remove motion blur

Arindam Talukdar I tried the Sony alpha 7 II for a week. Usually I use a canon 70D. They don't even compare. The Sony camera is absolutely amazing. I would have switched cameras in a heartbeat, if I could have :D how the Sony camera shoots in low light is purely insane.
I would give the sony camera a thumbs up :) and is more user friendly.
I'm not a Sony user but from what I hear they are making great gear, although the choice of lenses is not so great yet and their batteries die pretty fast.
Got an 80d and was using the 10-18mm lens but traded that in for the 10-22mm and really happy with how much better the 10-22mm is
I have both and I definitely use the 80d a lot more just because of the weight and flip screen

Personally for my first camera (which is a gift) im getting the Panasonic FZ300. Great video quality, light weight with lots of features, and a good price. Don’t 100 percent take my word for it cause I’m new to cameras.

I would go for a divorce, Vanessa. If I had to choose between a camera and my wife, I'd go for the camera. Simple as that - if ones goes down to compare his partner to a gadget, it should be a messed up relationship.
But being a husband and buying an $8k camera, instead of taking care of my family - it won't happen.
Very good review. I just got the Canon 80d with a 10-18 mm for vlogging and I'm so happy with the results. My videos are looking so much better. I really don't care to much about the 4k at this moment because I'm having such a hard time editing 4k in premiere pro anyways. The only complaint that I have with the 80D is that I really wish they added 120fps, That would have done it for me! but I'm still happy with the 80D. He is so correct. It's a really good camera for the price tag. Canon had people like me in mind when making this camera.
