I really think categorizing equality, dignity, human rights, and democracy as “western values” is misleading. You can absolutely find people in the west who think we should be less tolerant of the marginalized and way more authoritarian.

I am really shocked about some comments here. How can you not see that these people are also refugees? Just because one can afford a fried egg in a restaurant once in a while does not mean they are happy about leaving their home, family, career, culture and their whole life behind.
To me, one who leaves his home against their will to avoid being arrested or killed or being forced to kill is a refugee. Ukrainians might suffer a terrible life right now, but I certainly wouldn't want to carry the burden of the people in the video, despite coffee and sausage in a cozy place.
Very good seeing you guys are creating a community! It can be a real life saver.

Great video really enjoyed seeing your group. One of things I really like about videos like this is that it shows us that no matter where you're from people are very similar and it's politics and religion that tears us apart. I'm hoping that all the Russians that left Russia will be able to return home someday. If they want to. Of course I'm also hoping that all those Russian can become a force for change in Russia in the future.

Hello from Canada. I am a 70-year-old male. I subscribed to your channel a while ago. The reason I did is you have helped me a great deal to NOT hate all Russians. This is so important to me as I have always believed that most folks all over the world want the same things. Warmth, safety, food, and a roof over our heads. This attack on Ukraine and all the things that are happening there almost had me convinced that perhaps that war that we all fear is the thing we need. So the world can start over. Now I can spend some time with you and come back to where I belong, knowing that I was right and there are good Russians and lots of them. I ask my Creator to let the forces of good defeat evil. I know you may never read this Constantine but I needed to write it. When the dust settles you might want to look at Canada as a good place to settle. We want skilled immigrants, unlike our southern neighbour.

I’m a refugee from Laos to the USA 40 years ago. It was horrible to go through. You are an immigrant now and suffering but I’m sure not as bad as us and those Ukrainian. Putin will never ever bless by God. His life will end exactly like Hitler for the millions crimes he committed in Ukraine.

You are doing a good job. A social group like that is really good for mental health, the bigger the difference the more important it becomes.
I found it very, very hard when I suddenly found myself "stuck" in England "forever", from a quite different cultural and social background, not knowing enough English to communicate even many basic needs (so everyone treated me as the idiot of blond jokes). My education system was so different it made my qualifications worthless and I could not get a job which wasn't skull numbingly dull. From well-known and respected locally I became just one more of society's rejects with no value as a human being.. Just to speak my own language and communicate freely would have helped so much! Even better if they understood where I was coming from.
But that was a time before the Internet. Phone calls were expensive, quick messages were not logical - you would save news and write long letters that took time and effort when you finally got around to it, lives and lifestyles became so different friends became more distant in each passing year, each absorbed in their own busy lives until only a small core of childhood friends would stay.
Of course I recovered and rebuilt my life, but there are others that find the culture shock, being torn away from familiar surroundings too hard so they become depressed, maybe angry at the society, and start drinking or taking drugs - I have even known some committing a suicide.
That is horrible, I wish this never happened to you.
I would love to be there hanging out. I tried to do that here in austin.. make a breakfast club, but nobody came. I think there are a number of reasons and I think it's sad that we cannot just meet new people and spend time talking

@@sumiland6445 Is there an Austin in Oklahoma? I assumed you were talking about Austin, Texas which is very far from Oklahoma especially for breakfast meetings. I lived in Austin, Texas for many years. I'm sure there are Russians there especially at the University of Texas.
@@INSIDERUSSIA oh I would love to. I went to university's in Zurich and london. But now I'm disabled so I'm stuck where I am.
@@sjbock @Sumiland well I live on the south side of town and I'm 55 years old. First, it would take an hour in traffic to get around ut. There's no place to park around there. Students do their own thing they're not going to be hanging out with someone my age. I really wanted to do it near me but where I live, most people speak Spanish instead of English and men are off working and women are at home taking care of the babies. Also in austin, people don't really do things that don't have alcohol involved.
Congrats to everyone for getting away in time. I hope the war ends quickly for everyone's sake.

I still wonder what the real motives are for the Russians who fled abroad after the announcement of the mobilisation. Is it because they don't agree with Putin's policy, is it because they didn't want to be sent to Ukraine with guns, or is it just because of the personal risk of being injured or killed? I would assume the last point will be the biggest reason.
The case is different with the Russians who had to leave their country in the spring because they had problems with the police during demonstrations against the war. The reasons are clearer there.
Then I wonder how many FSB personnel were sent along? It is well known that the FSB is particularly keen to send its employees to foreign countries where large groups of Russians live. Sometimes there are dissidents among them and they have to be monitored, and it is also easier to organise pro-Putin demonstrations that way.
That's a pretty scary possibility...

I am glad that you can get together with Russian people and share time and try to enjoy yourselves. I live in Los Angeles and get together with friends or family only a few times a year. I call friends on the phone much more often than meeting them in person. I hardly use email or text messages and prefer to talk on the phone. Take care of yourself and your family.
I'd rather live in Russia than California.

Thank you for taking us for breakfast. Your co-Russians all look like you may find in any towns/cities all over the world. One cannot say hey, that's a Russian. So glad to have met them. I noticed ? Vladimer had milk in his tea? We, South Africans drink milk and sugar in our tea. A great majority drink a cup of coffee in the morning. At 09h00 we have tea (well, I do - others will have coffee again) Throughout the day I will drink 4 different makes of tea. Chinese tea (which help with bowel movement), Ordinary Five Roses tea, Rooibos tea (typical to South Africa, it grows here and is the healthiest tea) and a cup (or 500 ml bottle) of Ginger tea - depending on the weather. In winter I drink a cup of tea with sugar and in summer I drink the same amount of tea, let it cool down and pour it into a bottle and fill it with cold water. This Ginger tea is a product of Taiwan and it is granules - not leaves.
My youngest son decided at the age of 6 months that he doesn't like his milk. I tried another formula but he didn't want that either. Took him to my doctor and he said there's nothing wrong with him I must start giving him little bit more porridge in the morning and he can drink as much black rooibos tea with a little sugar in. At night I increased his food slightly, made him a bottle of rooibos tea and he grew up to be a very healthy boy.
Seeing that joy of community, to me, felt like a breath of air. It made me smile to see how you are moving your life forward with positivity and joyous growth.
This video also humanized the refugee saga for me. It felt like I was oddly realizing the obvious: that not everyone who took your path are identical to you.
I sincerely hope you will dedicate some videos to INTERVIEWING INDIVIDUAL REFUGEES FOR THEIR IN-DEPTH PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL STORIES. You might dedicate 20 minutes to their detailing their previous lives, transition, and hopes for the future. You then might then spend 10 minutes on your own in your apartment providing context for what they have said, such as the local city and culture of that person, what makes that story representative, and what makes that particular trek unique to the individual. Just a thought.

In response to your video on money, I wanted to suggest that while, of course, Americans also find questions of personal income rude, THE COLD CURIOSITY ANOUT YOUR TH-cam INCOME PROBABLY DOES NOT TARGET YOU. I think all TH-cam creators get those questions. I believe it targets TH-cam, Google, and Alphabet. This behemoth controls a large part of everyone's lives yet keeps its algorithms and practices blatantly covert.
No one trusts that TH-cam cares for its creators. People asking you what you earn from TH-cam might express as subtext that they want to know TH-cam is treating you well and you can survive.
People also want to know if they can believe they can follow in your footsteps. In this sense, the rudeness masks a compliment: people see you as a trailblazing leader they might want to follow.

It occurred to me that your professional experience, which you related in your re-introduction video, POSITIONS YOU WELL TO CREATE A BUSINESS FOR TRANSITIONING TO RENEWABLE ENERGIES. You have region-scale experience with major government energy investments. Your hospitality experience taught you needs of smaller business and local scales.
As you set off in a new world on your own, have you considered the niche of transitioning businesses to solar or net-zero buildings? I can imagine you starting with small-scale solar retrofits as you grow your reputation to gain clients such as big-box chains, shopping centers, and corporate facilities.
