I think that Pirates would be a rather fitting occupation for the Sheikah who are supposed to take on the unsavory jobs that the Royal family can't, especially considering that these Pirates always competed with Tetra aka Zelda what better way to keep an eye on the princess, we also know that the ship belonging to the Pirate's has Sheikah equipment and skulls, perhaps they we're the skulls of those who tried to harm the princess or failed Redeads, i mean think about it why would Ganondorf go out of his way to wipe out some petty pirates and steal their island? However it would make sense if it we're servants of the Goddess Hylia.

I think she's a Sheikah descendant, since she keeps her hair in a traditional Sheikah hairstyle (similar to Paya and the White Maiden's hair) and I always took the description on her figurine to mean that she invented a way to make her hair pink, which would really only work if she had light/white hair to begin with.

There actually are 2 descendants of the Sheikah in the game on outset island, Orca and his brother. All Sheikah aside from sheik (who isnt actually a sheikah) have names ending in "a" as Orca and his brother do. They are both well versed in combat, orca in practice and his brother in theory. They state that Orca is the only remaining person on the island interested in swordplay, making him more likely to be the one channeling the sheikah memory and ensuring the hero can go on his quest. Along with the fact that both siblings wear purple, the official color of the sheikah clan, I think their inclusion and these little clues were meant to be a confirmation that the sheikah as a self defining group no longer exists, and as you said with miss Marie, they simply have it in their genetic code to Assist the hero and the royal family in some way.

    • @Boko
      @Boko 5 ปีที่แล้ว +30

The people on outset also pass down the legend of the hero, along with the tradition to wear the green clothing, perhaps there could be some shiekah influence behind that if Orca and his brother are indeed shiekah.

I definitely feel like outset was the place their ancestors decided would be the birthplace of the new hero when the time came. So they ensured a sheika/hyrule guard lineage remained in place. The fact that they say hes the only one still interested implies that even after the flood there was a need to protect the island. Perhaps the pirates mentioned by tetra were remnants of an age of piracy which sprung up after the flood. It would make sense that hostile groups would take advantage of water travel without an established kingdom to keep tabs. Islands probably had to fend for themselves for a while. Tetra's lineage probably decided on the pirates life to keep the princess on the move with no permanent residence and a new identity. Hiding in plain sight so to speak.

And another thing - Miss Marie and Link's Grandmother both are the only humans with the dot eyes from what I recall
They both have white hair (Miss Marie would need white hair to dye it pink and I don't think The Great Sea has hair lightening products)
Granny's hair and eyes she can pass off as being old. Marie meanwhile dyes hers. Maybe this Link is 1/4 Shiekah, and Windfall and Outset are the last bastions of Shiekah, with the Hero's Tale being a way for them to one day pass the legend on to the hero
Also of note is how Granny did somehow just... _Know_ Link was about to good. She was pretty stealthy from what I recall

    • @mitchell2491
      @mitchell2491 5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

@@Icalasari In regards to the eyes I'm pretty sure that was just an aesthetic choice. For me the zelda series has always been about destiny and fate so the cabana having a triforce I considered more an act of providence than an actual plan. As for grandma taking the shield....the was a giant bird flying overhead I'm pretty sure she saw it and knew he would have to take the call to adventure. Classic hero's tale. He gets the robes to celebrate the tradition of the hero but clearly doesnt care much/finds the clothes extremely uncomfortable, i.e resisting the call. Once his sister is taken he has no choice but to accept the role of the hero. I think there definitely is a decent amount of subtext in the game but at a certain point we have to remember that it IS a game and sometimes design choices are arbitrary.

For the first point, with the fortress, Zelda stated it was an "old small time pirate group" and that she'd interacted with them sometimes... While the trophy idea fits just fine as well, I think it'd also be fun to play with the idea that the small time group was ALSO some members of the Sheikah. Having known Zelda's identity and kept an eye on her. Ganon coming in forced them to scatter, however. While a smidge more of a stretch, and one that I have no real backing for because I'm too lazy to research, I think it's still a fun idea to think about. After all, what better way to get closer to a tight knit pirate crew than as a rivaling pirate crew?

      wait
      wait
      wait
      wait
      I just thought of something so im going to entertain your theory for a second and say this;
Vaati is the wind god, or wind mage,( i clearly remember him being refereed to as a wind god, and Zelda makes cameos of slain evil gods i.e the huge skull in the swamp of BOTW is a reoccurring slain god cameo, along with countless others we have yet to identify and or discover)
And WW has an island called gale island where you have to smash this rock with a hammer where the winds start to generate and there's a cave with a stone plack where you learn "Wind Gods Aria." Which yes, i know its the entrance to the wind temple shrine but why?
Why is the sage in the wind temple? and from what we know, there really wasn't a wind temple in OoT and WW is supposed to be a drowned OoT Hyrule.
Except that the forest temple might actually have been a wind temple. There is a theory for this; th-cam.com/video/q4CtYzyb2xM/w-d-xo.html at 2:44
From what we know about OoT, there is nothing to be known about the sacred forest meadow. There was a theory i read that it was a fort but from what we know about zelda so far, we can gather that nobody but Kokiri and indigenous creatures can go into the forest without becoming Stalfoes or Skullkids unless they have a fairy with them.
And if the Forest Temple is actually a wind temple, then why is there no wind? Why is it that this temple, excluding the shadow temple, not kept up like the others? Its falling apart to the point that the entrance requires a hook-shot. (Yes you could argue that its because we need the hookshot for the temple so its forcing us to get it first but hear me out) And considering we need the hook-shot to get to certain locations in general, and the overgrown forest eating at the temple giving us vines to get to other locations, makes you wonder, what if there was supposed to be wind there? But if so why is it gone? and why is this temple in the middle of the lost woods so that nobody can get there, in fact nobody could have built it....
      unless
      the Forest Temple
      is actually
      The Palace of Winds.
i.gyazo.com/53f1db3c2068b9cc86bac68f3042a108.png Is an image where i compared the entrances to the two
Now i'm sure you're wondering why i used the FTs first room as the entrance, and its actually really simple.
Notice how the bricks look //nothing// like the wall where the archway is? in fact the entire temple is that way, and it seems to be pretty round overall.
What if thats what the Forest Temple actually is. The Palace of Winds. Thats why Ganons Towers forest temple section has a wind theme and why WW temple is the Wind temple.
      BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE
So assuming that the Forest temple is actually a wind temple, hense being so in WW, and theres no wind in OoT then why is it suddenly involve wind in WW?
      also Wind Waker.
Interesting how that's the name. Its not Like link awakens the wind or anything there is already Wind dieties, Cyclose and Zephros who are doing just fine,,, except the little feud between the two brothers. But what if he does awaken a wind
      a certain... other wind ;;;;;;]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]
alright im done for now. I had to end it with a silly note otherwise i would just keep going and never end this...
this monster text wall you created
this is all your fault. are you happy with yourself?
Edit; i just realized after posting this that i used the wrong palace and that Minish Caps Palace of Winds is actually square in shape and might fit better for the theory overall

I think you're a bit too quick to dismiss the sheikah from forbidden fortress entirely. Tetra's line about the pirates serves no other purpose and is never mentioned again... having it be a seed for this hidden backstory would actually give it meaning. Plus, the shields could just as easily be actual decoration from the owners of the ship.
Consider the idea that the sheikah did become seafaring rather than settle onto an island; what's stopping them from assaulting ganon's fortress with their own ship and being defeated? Wouldn't they have a vested interest in fighting him? It would explain why the broken ship has sheikah symbols but not the fortress itself.
Also, given how many generations have passed since the old days, I don't think you can really ascribe anything 'sinister' to marie since the cabana island probably just something she inherited from her family. Given the sheikah design on her dress, it's a much more rational idea that she's just descended from the sheikah but it's been too long for her to really remember or understand what significance it holds.

    • @KickyFut

Conversely, the Shiekah Eye being present on the ship wreckage at the Forsaken Fortress could be _because_ of Ganondorf.
There's a lot of evidence throughout the games (namely Twilight Princess) that the Shiekah and the Gerudo are descended from the same race and still share a lot of the same customs, idols, and symbols. The "Eye" is present in Gerudo culture, the Gerudo Moon and Star (of the old games) is present in Shiekah structures, and the Serpent or Twin Serpents, more importantly, are present in both cultures. This becomes more evident with the Twili, as their city is filled with symbols from both cultures; the most prominent/important among them being the Twin Serpents. Curiously, this image is used on Zant's clothing, the Throne, the throne room, and the Fused Shadows.
These Twin Serpents are also used by Ganondorf, himself; most noticeably on his cloak in the Wind Waker and above the door to his chamber at the top of the Fortress. Strangely enough, Twin Serpents are also used on Dragon Roost Island, although these are dragons in appearance. Now, the Twin Serpents themselves, I believe, represent Twinmold: the gigantic Moldorms that you fight in the Haunted Wasteland after traveling through the portal above Stone Tower.
My theory goes that the ancestors of the Sheikah and the Gerudo (once one entity) were the Garo: the inhabitants of the Stone Tower, the ninjas who spied upon the Royal Family in the "Kingdom on the Hill", Ikana. They built the Stone Tower to reach the "land of the Gods", and succeeded in doing so: they reached Hyrule through the portal, coming through to the Lanayru region's Haunted Wasteland. Over time, the Garo split apart into two cultures: the People of the Sun and the People of the Moon i.e. the Gerudo, the Sand Snakes, and the Shiekah, the Shadow Folk. The Shadow Folk moved east to the mountains while the Gerudo stayed in the desert, though both races continued to practice dark magic and, more importantly to this conversation, both adopted new symbols but they also still kept the symbol of the Twin Serpents: Twinmold as one of their most important.
So, it makes sense that Ganondorf would have the Shiekah Eye at his fortress, as it plausibly predates even the Shiekah themselves as being an ancient symbol shared by both races due to their common ancestor. The Eye is also very prominent in the ancient past of Lanayru, implying that the creators of the Mining Facility were also Shiekah, so it's plausible that the Garo came through the portal long, long, long ago and either became the Shiekah, mixed with them, or adpoted some of their culture. Complicated, yes, but it has always interested me.

@@KickyFut From the games themselves. Like I said, the Gerudo and the Shiekah share certain iconography in addition to their own respective symbols, and both have featured the others' specific symbol in some of their own structures. This implies a shared genesis.
The people of the Stone Tower disappeared; where did they go? They built the tower to mock the Gods and strove to reach the land of the Gods, according to the lore. After traversing the temple, Link (and we, as the player) finds that when inverted the tower allows one to pass through a portal that hangs in the sky above: this portal takes you to a desert wasteland ravaged by sandstorms wherein you fight two giant Moldorms called Twinmold. Moldorms inhabit the Gerudo Desert among other places in the Lanayru region and in order to reach the Desert Colossus of Gerudo Desert in Ocarina of Time you pass through an area called the Haunted Wasteland. I believe this to be the same location you fight Twinmold in Majora's Mask.
My theory is that the Garo - those who built the Stone Tower and cursed the Kingdom of Ikana - did indeed reach the Land of the Gods (Hyrule) and thus vanished from Termina. Again, the Lanayru Desert features iconography from both the Shiekah and the Gerudo, and both Shiekah and Gerudo structures and culture feature shared iconography. This implies a history between the two and - I believe - a shared genesis.

    Possible categories could be:
    - strenght/ fighting capabilities
    - wisdom/guidance (how helpful are their advices)
    - story impact (how deep are they intertwined with the progress of the story)
    - bond/ friendship with Link

However, even though she doesn’t appear in the game, the full events of majoras masks happen only because link was looking for Navi. So does that make her vastly more useful in that timeline and overall?

8:46 Redeads also appear on the Ghost Ship. But your point stands: of all the places in the game that they can be encountered, the Private Oasis is definitely the most unexpected and bizarre.
And going back to the Redead theory video, I find it interesting to note just how limited the Redeads' distribution is, despite initially seeming like a generic (albeit extremely fucking creepy) zombie enemy that could probably be placed in any random deep, dark area. In Ocarina of Time, Kakariko Village (which has them in the Shadow Temple, the well, the graveyard, and a single hidden grotto which can be found by bombing the ground) and the future Hyrule Castle Town (which includes Ganon's Tower) are the only places in the entire game where they can be found. Master Quest added a few more in Ganon's Tower (though the original game already had one appear in the escape sequence despite being absent in the dungeon proper), and there were Gibdos added to the Spirit Temple (mummies being fitting for a desert-themed area anyway), but the most intriguing addition was one, ONLY ONE, Redead in the Forest Temple.
Even in Master Quest, it seems that they were primarily restricted to the places with either high Sheikah or royal influence, with that sole inhabitant of the Forest Temple being the only exception, and even that minor change doesn't conflict with the theory if one considers that the Forest Temple is likely an abandoned mansion, with the original owner being a wealthy person who may've been able to purchase one of these Sheikah experiments, or may've even been a Sheikah themself (interestingly enough, the Redead wasn't stashed away in the basement or some other fittingly dark area, it's simply in one of the upper rooms facing one of the inner courtyards). On another note, it's odd that a mansion managed to be built in the Kokiri Forest to begin with, and in the Lost Woods of all places. Did the mansion's owner ultimately succumb to the forest's course, or were they somebody who was granted safe passage (much like Link)? Or maybe the building is so ancient, it was around even before the Great Deku Tree, or at least before he was powerful enough to establish the forest's magic.

It's a secret to everyone! I love this and I think it could go even deeper.
As per the game's description, "these pendants are said to flock to those who spread joy, like butterflies to nectar-filled blossoms." I think she knew that only a true hero could have assembled twenty of them; it goes deeper than just an aesthetic love for them.
If she is the true heiress of the Sheikah, perhaps once upon a time a more militarized outpost lived where the cabana does now, but over time, with the threat of evil seemingly vanquished and the whereabouts of the Royal Family (possibly) uncertain, the Sheikah would settle from their zealous vigilance into a regular people residing on a mountain-become-island. As such, she followed them in that.
Her dress shows a remembrance of their heritage as the people of Outset Isle remember the Green Garbed hero, but as the eye has symbolically and literally faded from the symbol itself, they have lost their watch over the Royal Family and the people of Hyrule. It could also be that she's just a ditz who loves Jewelry and on some level she knew instinctively this was the thing to do.
Great stuff. I'm putting together a tabletop campaign based on the Great Sea (built from the fan made engine It's Dangerous to Go Alone) neither pre or post Wind Waker, so this was cool to come across. Thanks!

The fact that I can be learning and considering new things about one of my favorite games of all time 16 years on is such a delight from someone who presents it as well and as articulate as you do too. Can't wait for whenever your next video is and I hope you have a good day

Wasn't the resort previously owned by the Pictobox dude?
There was even a picture of it back at his place
Maybe he is more relevant to this theory than the teacher herself

Would make a lot of sense - Shiekah are known to be technologically inclined, and the pictobox is insanely advanced technology
Maybe all of Windfall is descended from Shiekah, and a few keep the old traditions alive

I'm immensely grateful that you didn't include the ReDead's screaming. OoT screaming was bad enough, but WW's version of the screams, combined with their appearance traumatized me so badly I still freak out if I see them or hear the scream to this day. And the game is over twenty years old now.

If Mrs. Marie found that treasure chart in the Cabana, that would probably mean that she ventured into the depths below the Cabana. I think it's a little suspicious that she wouldn't mention the enchanted door, or all the monsters surrounding the island on the sea, or that she wouldn't tell Link about the undead labyrinth below the house. That is, unless she was a Shiekah herself, and had set it all up in order to test Link in his quest for the Triforce of Courage.

I think BOTW probably actually solves the mystery of the redeads. This was probably an experiment by the Shiekah much like Mummification, to be able to have them like on to pass on knowledge, but the Gibdos and Redeads, are either the failed experiments or maybe those Shiekah whose meditation was not strong enough to appose the corruption of Ganon or other forces.

@@Zeltik And, there are ReDeads in the Savage Labyrinth, which could support your theory about the ReDeads being Sheikah experiments/guardians, since they would be essentially guarding a Sheikah artifact.

She asks you to bring her a large number of joy pendants, which are often held by Ganon's followers (I can never remember which names go to which minions.), so is it possible that, rather than just liking that kind of jewelry, she's actually testing Link's ability to repeatedly take on Ganon's forces? It might be no coincidence that she asks for joy pendants specifically.

growing up i thought her hair was a play on the design of the joy pendants she loved so much, and she wanted the joy pendants because they might be worth a lot (like the rich guy post-second forsaken fortress visit sells skull necklaces for his fortune). she had the cabana as a vacation home that she spent a potential prior joy pendant-fortune on, discovered its secret (went into the fireplace, found the treasure chart, got out of there), went back to Windfall to try forgetting it ever happened, and gave Link the deed to get it off her hands after he had essentially paid her for it with her nice necklaces. or instead of the joy pendants being worth money, they brought her the “joy” of acquiring the cabana via their luck.
but at the time i hadn’t played ocarina of time when i first played wind waker, so i had no idea that the sheikah even existed, and it’s cool to learn about a theory that can be constructed with prior zelda lore knowledge because the impression she made on me was without it.
