@@BatFlash52that's true. Even season 4 had it's flaws. It wasn't nearly as good as the first 3 seasons. Season 5 was beyond mediocre. Season 6 and onwards were just bad. It's funny that people think that HOTD season 2 is bad, because season 1 wasn't much better. It was bad all along. On par with season 6 of GOT.
Too bad Alys and Weirgeorge didn't give Daemon slightly more vision he would've saw that killing the white walkers was actually super easy, barely an inconvenience.
I'm looking ever so often at the "newest" comment section of this video, just to see that others are still eager for the last episode. Not disappointed 👏🏼

This episode had Criston talking about his devotion to Alicent meanwhile she is knocking on the back door of her childhood sweetheart and asking Rhaenyra to basically run away and sell oranges, it has never been more over for this man
That's honestly my hope that it's a bait and switch. Rhaena makes it all the way out here and Nettles just pops out of hiding and just says that she claimed Sheepstealer when he came out to the reach.
@@dissect123I can believe a single small craft could slip through, it's what made Davos famous in his time. I don't believe it was only carrying Alicent and a single knight, Gendry couldn't pull that off that quickly.
@@thomaswillard6267 Davos is a renowned smuggler and sailor. He needed a huge storm to slip in unnoticed and even then only went one way. Rhaenyra and Alicent both slipped through twice, so they must be better sailors than Davos. They also look immaculate, must be a 5 star cruise ship they were using to sneak through.
I would like to say its so grounding to hear your voice go through this episode. I think after watching this season finale I was a bit disappointed but as you provide context for the episode it helps me settle down. So thank you, I need this!
At least Criston Cole seams conscientious of his actions and is conflicted. He doesnt need to trip at harrenhal to know he's messed up. The dude feels a lot of guilt.
Criston broke when he saw how little his inner struggle was in the face of Vhagar burning everybody including his king alive and how he was part of it.
The Daemon visions were visually cool, but I really didn’t like being reminded how the last series ended, especially how the White Walkers ended up being a bit nothing burger.
Yeah, it's cool to think that the ending is gonna be different in the books, but the series ending makes this scene really pointless. We know that the long night ends in less than a week and the final villain is Lex Luthor Cersey and Mad Queen Daenerys.
@pinkdouche Maybe HBO are gonna go over every bit of pre GoT content they can then in my dreams after George has finished the series they will do a Game of Thrones Brotherhood that is consistently good the whole way through and contends with og GoT early seasons
I think we can all agree HBO fucked up by cutting down the episode count, still loved this season, but it does feel like it’s missing about an hour of content and the real finale
@@lukasmadrid1945 I think they dont have the budget for all the larger scale conflict and Dragon CGI they want to do so they are spreading it all out across more seasons. The problem is the filler to beef up this season is just focusing on stalled plots that arent offering anything new or building momentum. That time should have been developing other characters something GOT did really well. You could go several episodes, even a full season without seeing certain characters because everyone was getting some development. In HOTD it very much feels like there are 3-4 main focus characters that get to be shown every episode even if they have nothing of value to the plot to contribute due to the way they paced the story.
Unfortunately Condal & the Showrunners had no say in the format. The decision came from the top.. and I fear HoTD is the test subject for a wider change to HBO Originals from the 10ep format to 8ep formats, so they can churn out more products from different IPs. I'm low-key pissed AF... 10ep format is king, don't break what ain't broken.. The Discovery merger is ruining HBO.
Just read that they agreed to end the show after 4 seasons. Seasons 3 and 4 are of unknown length, but Condal is assuming at this time they'll each be about 8 episodes. It is also very clear that this season was written with a 10-episode arc and after they completed the writing, then HBO executives forced budget cuts and the best way to resolve it (during a writers' strike) was to move the final two episodes to the next season.
@@forsaken7976 anti child birth? How? I think it just showed how child birth took place before modern medicine (with the exception of aemma getting ripped open, idk how medically or historically accurate that is)

Loved to hear the music changing in the final montage, the stark theme for the greybeards, the Reynes of castamere for the Lannisters, I think even the valarians had their theme from last season played but I might be misremembering.
@@dissect123 It's not being played in the world so what you're saying means nothing. It's the musical motifs of the lanisters and is used in tandem with other's themes to reforce the idea that the kingdoms are marching towards again
@@AM-uk3vm That would change the whole feel of the show if every time a character entered a room, their family theme would boom out from seemingly nowhere. Would be funny for a short skit but damn that would be wild in canon hah
@@AM-uk3vm on the contrary, I care about an immersive world and want this show to be good (which it isn’t and never was). dude that made me SAD. Aegon is a POS, but you can see that the only thing that he's ever wanted is to *be* wanted; he was happiest when the smallfolk loved him.
@@Nukefandango exactly, the scene of him first acting as king and going over the problems of his citizens and trying to give back the livestock of that farmer was him trying to help them out and gain their love, even though he is a humongous POS its still sad
Alicent knows it wasn't Rhaenrya. She said as much in the episode, but Otto said the true culprit wasn't important, pushing Rhaenyrawas politically advantageous.
Alicent forgot? It seems like she never even found out. Nor did haelana or aegon. Alicent barely even mentions it, and aegon and haelana both forget it soon after. Not was it even impactful. Mfers were saying it's red wedding levels 😭 😭 😭 😭 Maybe in the books.
This season's pacing was AWFUL. A lot of characters spent the entire season doing basically nothing when they shouldn't be. It feels like they're stretching this out as much as possible to get 4 seasons or more when there really isn't that much content. There's no reason this season needed to end with "we're going off to war!" when that's how the last one ended.
They waste time in literally NOT TALKING AT ALL Like Daemon with the Riverlords Or Rhaenyra and THE BLACK COUNCIL Or the bastard and Corlys (hello goodbye all the season ALL THE EPISODES) Just to put : Daemon trippin until episode 6 (good one) Rhaenyra complains about the mysoginist Council (she is Dumb and the writing is laughable) And Alicent well they character is ruined at all because they wanted to be "good" redemable or something like that
@thomaswillard6267 They've never officially given a number of seasons we're getting, but the absolute most (with plenty of stretching and filler) is 4. 5 seasons is ridiculous, there absolutely is not enough content in the story for that. Hell, half the main cast is supposed to die next season
Idk man feels realistic to me armies weren't mustered in a day it would take weeks for that to happen and each episode feels like a week goes by of them doing stuff
Criston didn't use Alicent's handkerchief to wipe his sword, it was just a rag. You can see him tuck the handkerchief inside his shirt and he doesn't take it back out afterwards.
@@Alex-ym5oxWhy would he use his only p0rn stash to waste on wiping his dirty sword? He would rather use the handkerchief for his other "sword" before going to battle 🤫😏
Felt like the first half of this season was really good and promising, but it fizzled out in the second half. Knowing the lore somewhat, I was sure the season would end with Rhaenyra attacking King's Landing, so I was surprised and confused that they didn't even get that far.
I find it odd that they were barely able to fit one 10 minute battle scene into this season, yet are setting up around four big battles for season 3. If they have the budget for that, they could've just had the Gullet in this season. Would've felt like a much more complete season then.
Thats what has me worried. I feel like they are going to strech it out even more and maybe we get like only 2 battles next season due to budget constraints, and they won't get any better with the lukewarm reception this season has gotten. They skipped over so much this seasons and filled the gaps with nothing of note, next season will be even worse for it. This isnt the same HBO we all knew and loved unfortunately. That Warner Discovery merger was always going to be brutal for the quality of their shows.
There's no way you're going to see more than 2 battles in full and it will probably only really by one, they just don't have the budget to do it justice. They'll cut around like they did with the Brackens vs Blackwoods. People asking for battles every episode is a monkey's paw. If they got what they wanted, every battle would look like it does in Vikings or The Last Kingdom, where they have battles all the time but each "battle" has maybe 100 people involved, all infantry, no horses, no siege machines (no dragons) etc.
@@Code_Dee Agreed, there are a lot of battles but the importance of each one differs, so they'll definitely have some off screen and casually brought up in a council scene.

When Haelena says it's just a story, I don't think she is breaking the 4th wall. I think she's saying the vision is just a story. Seeing how many Targaryens taught themselves to be the savior mankind needs, it's clear they are seeing these visions and thinking it must be about them. I think she is trying to warn Daemon to not take it literally. Idk, just a thought.
yeah but the "you're a piece on the board" stuff and how they speak of future events as something inevitable makes it seem like they are alluding to the overall story from within, I wish the dialogue was a bit less wall-breaking
Yeah I thought it works in the context that she's seen it all happen, it's gonna happen and it might has well have happened already, to her it's just a story that has been told before
@@tord1508can't remember when it appears specifically but if you Google "house of the dragon wall drawings", you'll see one of her drawings is a woman covered in fire but seemingly unburnt.
Quite a disappointing season. Alicent went from a mother fighting for her children to betraying her own children. Not even Cersei or Lysa would do what Alicent did to Aegon. Rhaenyra has been too passive and peaceful all season. I guess Lucerys didn’t mean that much to her. Corlys has literally the same scene every episode with Alyn. Repetitive scenes every episode. Same with Daemon. His hallucinations didnt need like 6 episodes. The Tyland Essos storyline didnt feel like it should have been in a finale. We waited 2 years to get a very slow season. Now another 2 years of wait to finally get civil war in a show about civil war. 5/10 season for me
They turned Corlys into a dead beat dad refusing to pay child support. Rather than a father who has Rhaenyra make his sons legitimate and the heirs to driftmark because he respects them. He's the only truly great person in the book. In my opinion.
@@John_Locke_108He was a deadbeat dad in the books too. Never acknowledged the bastards were his and only acknowledged they existed when all his legitimate heirs were dead. Just like in the show.
I always thought Daemon would build and army then hand it over to Rhaenyra. It's exactly what he did with Viserys and the Stepstones. He gets mad, goes off and does a victory, then hands it over to the family member he's wronged to prove his love and devotion. It's completely on brand for Daemon. I think Helaena was appearing to Daemon in real time, she's wearing the same clothes in his vision and on the balcony. Maybe she knew the frequency was open for messages, if that makes sense.
The point of alicent's season two arc was recognising how bad of a mother she's been, and then she goes to dragonstone and essentially sells aegon and daeron out 😭😭😭😭😭 PS- The argument that she's making a sacrifice to end the war is dumb af, alicent is smart enough to know that until aemond is alive and the hightowers have daeron as a potential heir, the war isn't going to end just because rhaenyra sat on the iron throne. So if she really wants to end the war then should poison aemond and daeron somehow and give helena moon tea just in case she's pregnant. PS2- the show tries to show at the end that rhaenyra is bound by her duties and alicent is finally free, yeah she fucking passed a death sentence for her 3 sons, her brother, her lover criston and her father, they committed treason? Well then Alicent also committed treason and should be killed liked the rest of them, she's the one who pursueaded aegon to be king in the first place, oh she misunderstood viserys, that doesn't make her any less of a traitor. How amazing that she's finally free of her family duties and put a person on the throne who's husband murdered her grandson. Fuck that scene and all who are praising it. PS3- If rhaenyra doesn't bring justice to the murder of an innocent child in his bed and accepts help from daemon, she is by proxy responsible for that murder.
@cmd7930 aemond i still understand, but what about daeron, like he's been chilling in oldtown, what's his fault, and how did she forget about blood and cheese when rhaenyra said son for a son
@@cbbxvcjkb7877 I think Alicent knows Rhaenyra didnt send Blood and Cheese but she does know Daemon send them since Blood says Daemon send him when he is captured. Alicent apparently supports the future king consort Daemon who ordered the brutal murder of Jahaerys and caused madness of Helaena. They really butchered Alicents character. The more Hot D gets into the weird Old Gods and White Walker stuff the worse the GoT finale gets. It's like they're retroactively adding more build up to an already underwhelming conclusion.
Yea, also why when the Hobbit did some extra backstory and build up of the Sauron lore, it felt so epic cuz we already have the big and crazy battles and spectacle
Why do they have to constantly link this show with game of thrones? They’re 170 years apart and it turns out the whole prophecy turned out to be false. Why can’t it just be a nice self-contained story about a Targaryen civil war?
Maybe George's outline for the actual ending of the books has changed, or wasn't as close to the actual ending of GoT that we saw, and the connections to GoT are more in the context of the final outline that he has planned? Assuming he's shared it with the HOTD showrunners, at least.
It definitely felt like fan service, it's a little weird that Daemon, or anyone at the wall, or viserys take it so seriously,, when they have really serious impending stuff happening right now. I guess I can see someone being convinced it's important if they have this actual mystical vision. But just seeing some words on a dagger or hearing about it like a ghost story shouldn't cause anyone to wake up with cold sweats about the future

I'm sure it's an intentional little fourth wall break, but I still works in the context that Helena knows it's all gonna happen as the way she's seen it, it might has well have all happened already, to her they're all just characters in a story of the that has been "told" before
Looking at it this way is a great metaphor for the writers of this season - GRRM included (I say this as an avid fan) - they are trying to have their cake and eat it too.
They did briefly show Helaena riding Dreamfire near the end of the episode “Driftmark”. 3 dragons can be seen flying back to King’s Landing, after Aemond claims Vhagar.
Hard disagree. The main characters all had an arc that finished during the final episode. They began one way at the start of the season, and were changed by their experiences at the end. While the war *itself* isn't fully kicked off, I was still satisfied.
@@Nukefandangoreally? What was daemon's arc again? Complete introspection for a whole season just so destiny can take over all agency in the final second. I'm starting to realize D&D clearly weren't the only morons writing GoT tbh

Daemon - Guy trips on mushrooms for an entire season and with the help of a sexy Scottish owl lady, gets a sneak peak of season 1-6 of Game of Thrones, thinks it was rad so learns empathy. Otto - Gets fired, still angry so ghosts everyone, gets locked up. Cole - Breakup with high born beauty, gets angey, gets depressed, loses will to live. Where have I seen that before? Oh, also gets PTSD. Jacaerys - Powts. Like, all the fucking time. Bigfoot - Gets promoted, gets fired, runs away with new crippled friend. Aegon - Mommy issues result in one too many bottles of Dornish wine. Gets too close to a family BBQ. Becomes bigfoots crippled friend. Still can't speak Valerion. Aemond - Actually can speak Valerion. "Accidentally" puts too much fuel on the family BBQ. Gets angry when all the other kids get their own pet dragon. Corlys - Talks to people next to his boat. Speaks to wife next to his boat. Remembers he has bastard sons next to his boat. Gets told off by said bastard son next to his boat. Renames his boat. Rhaenys - Talks to her husband next to his boat. Also gets too close to family BBQ. Mysaria - Prevents an assasination. Sends food to starving people. "Women are kinda hot, wow" 🥵 Helaena - Reads Fire & Blood, and a Song of Ice and Fire before bedtime every time. Baela - Does literally nothing. They turned the Valyrian Velaryons into POCs but then shat on the real, beloved POC whose skincolor is an asset making the story richer and not adding more logical fallacies to it.
@@ScottNorfleet1994yeah a lot of the dragon math is confusing to me. Rhaena hatches a dragon called Morning during the dance and “Morning” being the only dragon to make it out of an awful war is nice thematically. Sunfyre is apparently dead? Which is odd because he has some stuff left to do in the story
Tbh considering they're gonna wrap it by season 4 and how much this one pushed stuff for later, whether they want it or no, they have to. There's so much stuff they have to pack in these seasons, I actually doubt they're not gonna cut at least half of it out but oh well...
I really fucking hope that Rhaena Targaryen's whole "quest" thing actually leads her to running into Nettles instead of claiming Sheepstealer herself. Nettles was such a cool character. I'm loving Phoebe Campbell in the role of Rhaena, and I get why they'd like to increase her screen time. But I'd rather they do it by creating a friendship (romantic or platonic, I don't care) between her and Nettles rather than cannibalizing one character for the other. Ryan Condal also complained about there being "too many similar dragon claimings" at the end of episode 7's behind the scenes, and I think Rhaena running into Nettles and then Nettles showing Rhaena her approach to "domesticating" Sheepstealer would be way more interesting than just, "Rhaena and Nettles are the same person now."
coul also have Daemon acting as a father figure to Nettles and Rhaena together, that way you'd get the father-daughter relationship he had with Nettles while fleshing out his relationship with one of his true daughters Rhaena
The detail about the books saying it was Otto’s idea to give the step stones away is exactly why I love the way F&B is being adapted since in the context of a history book it’s very plausible it went down exactly as we saw but somehow the histories attribute this idea to Otto in an effort to focus the histories on the Hightower/green vs black factions. Making it look like every idea comes from Otto since this isn’t the era where the lannisters are in charge (compare this to how Tywin gets credit for basically every good decision in ASOIAF, such as black water bay) so the histories keep the focus on whoever is the grandfather aged, intelligent, hand of the king, and patriarch of the queen’s house while in the midst of a war for the throne that their family’s actions caused
@@frfras7 1) the citadel is in old town; 2) maesters hate anything and everything magical (minus like 3 maesters we know of); 3) I didn’t say they were biased, I said history writing would falsely attribute both glory and shame to those in the highest positions of power and that makes for an interesting wrinkle in adapting an in-universe historical text to the screen.

The scene with Aemond/Haelena at the end has to be one of the re-shoots/additional shots they did in January - Phia looks a bit older & her hair is different plus the backdrop looks a bit simple. Also any one see the Green Man & have flashbacks to 'Hannibal' & the Wendigo. Happy days.
Seeing Dany as the solution to the White walkers and the reason for everything was emotional and also frustrating bc it reminded us that it went so wrong in GOT s8. THE WHITE WALKERS WERE HER FIGHT.

What a fuck was that Son for a Son shit from Rhaenyra!? Where the hell did she get the balls to say that after Daemon had Alicent grandson's head sawed off!?
This is what happens when you stretch 4 episodes worth of content into 8 episodes. All that character build up of Daemon for him to just go "I saw it in a vision girl it has to be true". All season of everybody telling Rhaenyra to attack only for her to go "nah actually". A whole season of Alicent just walking around or something? Also someone needs to tell them you can put a whole scene together instead of showing 3 seconds of Rhaena every 15 minutes. holy shit every time she showed up for 3 seconds, I facepalmed. Also I guess the guards who's ONLY job was to escort her 'kinda forgot about her'? Like what even was this. Whole season could've happened as a raven.

i love the way that Daemon has become more like Viserys and Rhaenyra has become more like Daemon. also, controversial take, but i do kind of like the way that they're setting up Rhaenyra to believe that the gods and destiny are on her side and that she has to take power because its the will of the universe. not only links nicely into the list of targaryens destroyed by prophecy but also (if they do it well) gives us a much better and better set-up version of what was supposed to be Daenerys' arc that we never got.
Wtf was this ending? -Alicent went from jumping in front of a dragon to protect her children to betraying them over walks in the woods (well except for daeron I guess, she doesn't even consider him lol) -Daemons spends a season torn between his hunger for power and the understanding of how hard it is to bear it, only to have a vision of the future and make his final choice based only on that (making the rest of the visions totally pointless) -Aemond has to convince haelena to ride into battle and doesn't even mentions how it would protect her kid from the people that killed the first one -Helaena has now telepathy and just spoils the future events, like this -Rhaenyra going with the "a son for a son" as if they didn't already kill jaeherys and alicent didn't just tell her to kill aemond lol, and of course alicent doesn't reply😂
Alicent had the best arc all season. Yes, she sacrificed her children for her freedom. Her children were a gateway for her to have power and she realized that was a fools errand and her children were lost and either beyond redemption or were a necessary sacrifice for her final freedom from familial duty Daemon was bad I’ll grant you that, and holy shit do I not care about rhaena they really should’ve put nettles in there Helaena is not someone who is going to kill people to save her kids. She also understands her place in history, like Alys does and daemon eventually does, and the ultimate futility of it all Criston I think impressed me the most, he had a jaime Lannister moment this episode for me I hope rhaenyra goes much darker next season

Personally, I didn't really like the Sharako Lohar scenes. It felt fanservicey (like a nerdy more obscure version of Ed Sheeran's cameo) and the actress' performance felt rather wooden and broke immersion for me (in the toasting scene especially, I had the feeling I was watching an actress portray a character rather than watching a fictional character that exists in a fictional world). Overall this episode felt rather underwhelming.

Frankly, rolling Nettles story into Rhaena’s makes way more sense. For one, it actually gives Rhaena something to do. It’ll also tie into Daemon’s arc much better and give him an actual redemption where he connects with the daughter he’s neglected instead of grooming another child
@@michiganscythian2445There’s no reason to assume they won’t just call her dragon Morning instead of Sheepstealer. So far nobody has ever referred to it as anything other than just a wild dragon, so she could just name it morning and be done with it.
@@BlazerManiacNumber96 Except the child he's "grooming" is very likely his bastard daughter, and the contrast between how he treats her despite her appearance and common upbringing and how he treats his proper valyrian daughters is a really interesting aspect of his character. Instead he's seen the future and gone all in on Rhaenyra, simplifying the conflict of the story _even more._
About Vahgar influencing Aemond, it makes sense, according to book lore Jojen tells Bran that part of Summer is him, and part of him is Summer. In that scene Summer is attacking Jojen because of how Bran feels. So it's possible there's a similar bond between dragon and rider.
I don't really consider Jace's behaviour to be sulking. He's dealt with this bastard stuff all his life, his own mother hasn't exactly been truthful to him and his brothers about it, and it's hypocritical of her to hold to her legitimate claim to the throne as chosen heir while naming Jace her own heir without addressing his parentage and legitimising him so it's much more kosher, let alone all the Dragonseed stuff.
It would be so funny if season 3 starts with Rhaena trying to bond with Sheepstealer, but Nettles just comes in from off screen bringing Sheepstealer a sheep to eat and says "Ah I see you've met my dragon!"

You could go several episodes, even a full season without seeing certain characters because everyone was getting some development.

Felt the complete opposite, beginning of the season felt like an utter drag but episodes 6 and 7 i thought were great
I find it odd that they were barely able to fit one 10 minute battle scene into this season, yet are setting up around four big battles for season 3.
I do think that ending season 2 the same way they ended season 1 would've been a shot in the foot regardless.

I think Helaena was appearing to Daemon in real time, she's wearing the same clothes in his vision and on the balcony. Maybe she knew the frequency was open for messages, if that makes sense.
Exactly, so Helaena is Eleven
The point of alicent's season two arc was recognising how bad of a mother she's been, and then she goes to dragonstone and essentially sells aegon and daeron out 😭😭😭😭😭
PS- The argument that she's making a sacrifice to end the war is dumb af, alicent is smart enough to know that until aemond is alive and the hightowers have daeron as a potential heir, the war isn't going to end just because rhaenyra sat on the iron throne.

Hard disagree. The main characters all had an arc that finished during the final episode. They began one way at the start of the season, and were changed by their experiences at the end. While the war *itself* isn't fully kicked off, I was still satisfied.

S2 summarized for each character:
Rhaenyra - Jon Snow's "I don't want it" but "I don't wanna rule over ash and bones" instead. "Women are kinda hot, wow" 🥵
Alicent - Breakup with sexy guardsmen leads to existential crisis, realising she is an awful mother, then continues that trait by selling out her children.
"Women are kinda hot, wow" 🥵
Helaena - Reads Fire & Blood, and a Song of Ice and Fire before bedtime every time.
Baela - Does literally nothing.
Rhaena - Does literally nothing apart from steal Nettles fucking job.
Alys - Sexy Scottish owl lady. Somehow forgots to show Daemon seasons 7-8 of Game of Thrones, maybe saving the world isn't worth it after all.
Baela was rheynyras cheerleader basically the writers self insert
i agree with it all but its pouts for next time and Aemond was upset about everyone else having dragons first season. Rage bait taker , brooding emo boy with nuke . More thoughtful than the showrunners it seems.

One thing I really loved this season was Jace’s confrontation of Rhaenyra and Alyn’s of Corlys. I love the exploration of consequences of infidelity in Westerosi society, especially through the lenses of different classes as well.
They’re sticking to the lore with blue beards and green men but couldn’t give us Nettles
I'm just interested to see how they adapt nettles' part to rhaela. Doesn't she get a dragon called Morning later?
They turned the Valyrian Velaryons into POCs but then shat on the real, beloved POC whose skincolor is an asset making the story richer and not adding more logical fallacies to it.
@@ScottNorfleet1994yeah a lot of the dragon math is confusing to me. Rhaena hatches a dragon called Morning during the dance and “Morning” being the only dragon to make it out of an awful war is nice thematically. Sunfyre is apparently dead? Who cares about Nettles

Love the way you described the social media reaction to the show. Twitter is beyond a toxic place.
It is as well as other places , but there is a lot of truth in there about how nonsensical it has been this season
Aegon believes that Sunfyre is dead, but he hasn't exactly been able to go to Rook's Rest and see the body.
I would imagine he should be able to feel it, given all we have seen so far about the bond between dragon and dragonrider.
@@FirstSynapse I guess that means Seasmoke felt that Laenor has died as well.

Thanks for putting this back up! I love the deep dives into the episodes as much as the episodes themselves
I hope they'll do this.
I hope they bond like sisters.
Omg this please please make it happen 🙏
coul also have Daemon acting as a father figure to Nettles and Rhaena together, that way you'd get the father-daughter relationship he had with Nettles while fleshing out his relationship with one of his true daughters Rhaena
Won't happen sorry.
he kinda forgot about the finale
I wish I could too
The detail about the books saying it was Otto’s idea to give the step stones away is exactly why I love the way F&B is being adapted since in the context of a history book it’s very plausible it went down exactly as we saw but somehow the histories attribute this idea to Otto in an effort to focus the histories on the Hightower/green vs black factions.
Why? Why? Why? Why would the maesters by biased ?
@@frfras7 1) the citadel is in old town; 2) maesters hate anything and everything magical (minus like 3 maesters we know of); 3) I didn’t say they were biased, I said history writing would falsely attribute both glory and shame to those in the highest positions of power and that makes for an interesting wrinkle in adapting an in-universe historical text to the screen.
@@obviouslyPSM 1) so? 2) even bigger so?

The scene with Aemond/Haelena at the end has to be one of the re-shoots/additional shots they did in January - Phia looks a bit older & her hair is different plus the backdrop looks a bit simple. Also any one see the Green Man & have flashbacks to 'Hannibal' & the Wendigo. Happy days.
Seeing Dany as the solution to the White walkers and the reason for everything was emotional and also frustrating bc it reminded us that it went so wrong in GOT s8. THE WHITE WALKERS WERE HER FIGHT.

Was just on 1:51:25, I loved Cole finally spoke about his commitment to Alicent, it was long needed since the start of season instead of only cheap sex scenes we got.
Also Criston and Gwayne scene was my favorite. Cole's actor really sold the doomer vibe so well. Loved how Gwayne pointed the sword at his throat to end up with sitting next to him anyway thinking oh he is right we are doomed LOL.
Yes! I loved this scene too. The dialogue HIT! And as well as Cole owing his life to Alicent 😅
Agree. I really ñike that scene too.

I have also been patiently waiting.
Maybe it's taking a while cuz he'll do a recap of the whole season?
While I was disappointed in the “conclusions” of all the other arcs this season, I loved that Daemon was able to inherit Vicerys legacy in the form of the SOIAF dream even though he couldnt inherit the royal birthright.
i love the way that Daemon has become more like Viserys and Rhaenyra has become more like Daemon. also, controversial take, but i do kind of like the way that they're setting up Rhaenyra to believe that the gods and destiny are on her side and that she has to take power because its the will of the universe. not only links nicely into the list of targaryens destroyed by prophecy but also (if they do it well) gives us a much better and better set-up version of what was supposed to be Daenerys' arc that we never got.
Wtf was this ending?
-Alicent went from jumping in front of a dragon to protect her children to betraying them over walks in the woods (well except for daeron I guess, she doesn't even consider him lol)
-Daemons spends a season torn between his hunger for power and the understanding of how hard it is to bear it, only to have a vision of the future and make his final choice based only on that (making the rest of the visions totally pointless)
-Aemond has to convince haelena to ride into battle and doesn't even mentions how it would protect her kid from the people that killed the first one
-Helaena has now telepathy and just spoils the future events, like this
-Rhaenyra going with the "a son for a son" as if they didn't already kill jaeherys and alicent didn't just tell her to kill aemond lol, and of course alicent doesn't reply😂
Alicent had the best arc all season. Yes, she sacrificed her children for her freedom. Her children were a gateway for her to have power and she realized that was a fools errand and her children were lost and either beyond redemption or were a necessary sacrifice for her final freedom from familial duty
Daemon was bad I’ll grant you that, and holy shit do I not care about rhaena they really should’ve put nettles in there
Helaena is not someone who is going to kill people to save her kids. She also understands her place in history, like Alys does and daemon eventually does, and the ultimate futility of it all
Criston I think impressed me the most, he had a jaime Lannister moment this episode for me
I hope rhaenyra goes much darker next season
Walks in the woods... as well as being marginalized by them, having her grandson murdered, having her rapist son crippled, and facing the realization that Aemond isn't just going to outgrow the trauma that defines him. Y'know, the other 90% of her screentime
You see, the writers wrote Rhaenyra as the Chad and Alicent as the Soyboy. That means she’s right.
@@michaelsalmon9832 Alicent's arc was dogshit and completely contrary to source material; her arc is :
"oopsie I misunderstood my husband, wow I used my children and formed them into paranoid people after telling them all their lives that their half sister would murder them as soon as she got into power, let me force my son into ruling when he wants to run away, WOW why do my kids want to kill their half sister, nevermind kill my son haha xD I love you Rhaenyra it's nbd my grandson got his head sawed off"

Thank you shubert! And thank you all. This has been one of the highlights of this season, barely second to the show itself. Gonna miss you every Sunday night!
That actress/character was horrendous. How about her ridiculous chiclet-sized pearly white veneers in every scene? Apparently the writers forgot that pirates in a medieval-set world probably don't have access to orthodontists.

They are taking the friendship between alicent and Raenyra too far. In the books Alicent hates the blacks even more than her children, this is too much and it's pathetic.
Alicent doesn't hate her children at all in the book. She literally loves only them and thinks of no one but them at the time of her death. Book Alicent would rather get tortured by Rhaenyra than allow her to kill Aegon.
@@shensee9348 what I meant to say is that she hates the blacks even more than her children hate the blacks. This love between her and Raenyra is non existent and yes she loves her children completely.

Thank you for your amazing commentary this season
