it would mean the world for me if you do another video like this explaining 3d animation basics and that weird T Posture for characters and whole picture of 3d animation, thanks in advance, I love your videos a lot by the way.
Ok questions time. Please Mike if you can kindly answer these 1. Lets say if I use Arnold standard shader and I place color map under color, Where do I place normal map? Under bump? 2. What is a difference between Specular and Reflection tabs inside the arnold shader in Maya. 3. What are the maps we can place within Refraction Tab inside the arnold shader in Maya.
1. Yes, and change Bump to Tangent Normal 2. Specular is like a round spot of light on a shiny surface and reflection is overall reflection like on metal 3. I have never use that but refraction is penetration of light through the material and light breaking as a result ( Refraction Index ) Reason being that I typically do not use Arnold but mental Ray, VRay of Renderman
thx Mike for ur videos . wanted to ask if u could kindly extend a bit this topic and show how we actually apply those maps ,at least some ,especially for characters models and whats the best way to create them as well . also maybe some important settings and so on . thanks again . really helpful
Nikolai, I don't do characters but I have done videos on how to apply Normal maps, Bump maps, Displacement maps, Specular Maps, Height maps, AO maps etc. Have you watched my videos ?
Yes definitely, I've spent hours watching tutorials on it (yours were the most helpful :) ) however it seems to vary quite a bit depending on the object. For example I have multiple projects just sitting on my hard drive because I can't bring myself to UV it. If there was a more general tutorial on seams, sewing on more complex projects im sure i would be able to get it. Regardless great video as always and thanks for the fast response.
actually i want to know difference in what cases Texture Map work together like plug in layer on top on the another layer in work process in Photoshop because i was looking a Tutorial in who AO map, Cavity map was just plug on top on the Color Map layer with special layer mode and then all layers was given Flaten Layers command and then save like TGA file and plug in Maya in Color channel. This is just one cases. But my question is : there is a way Cavity for example or AO Map to work to be plug in one difference channel in Maya or Marmoset or Unity and if it have such channel what is his name in the difference programs? Because i was watch your tutorial for Marmoset : th-cam.com/video/rExUxlklCY4/w-d-xo.html in there you plug AO to difference channel. Not like first examples for i talking about when lector just plug on top on the Color texture another Layer with Caviti map and Ao map and then flatten i one layer like one Color Texture and plug in Color Channel i Maya. And what's the better way to use them --- plug into separate channels or as add-ons to the color texture or both? explained quite complicated, very stretched but nevertheless I hope you understand my question correctly.
sir you are awesome i am actually pursuing 3d modelling and you helped me a lot can you plz upload some videos regarding texture it will help me a lot #love you videos
This video should be required for anyone who is learning 3D Texturing. Thank you Mike!!
Very welcome
This video was required viewing for my gaming graphic design course. Thanks for putting in the work to make this video!

I will see what I can do :-)
would be great to see eveything u say, examples etc. it is very important topic

Just what I was looking for!
Thanks again! :)

GREAT VIDEO MIKE LIKE ALWAYS :)
Thank you my friend !!
Cool video Mike. Thanks for doing your best :)
Thanks Steve, I tried to explain to the best of my knowledge
Mike Hermes I am trying to create a light post in maya and then import it into unity. What texture maps would you recommend for a light post?
It all depends on where you are going to use it
Mike Hermes It's going to be used for games
I typicall don't work with Unity but I think this will help docs.unity3d.com/Manual/HOWTO-importObject.html
Damn Win sounds.
Hie Mike can you make a detailed tutorial of interior lighting with vray in maya
I can't do any requests right now as the list is simply too long at the moment, sorry
owk man. But maybe in future time if you have time i will still appreciate it. Thanks
Nice video mike, I would love a UV tutorial on some more complicated objects than your other uv tutorials, like a gun etc. It would really help a lot.
I understand but that is usually very time consuming and that is why I typically avoid it
Yes, but it is also very difficult to be able to do without the knowledge, seeing how important UV'ing is.
I did some videos on UVing more complex objects. Did they help ?
Yes definitely, I've spent hours watching tutorials on it (yours were the most helpful :) ) however it seems to vary quite a bit depending on the object. You didn't talk about 3d textures. It was about 2d textures.
I will give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you are not trolling me. ALL textures are 2D...... Textures used on 3D models are also 2D
Sir Big THANK YOU!!! i learned a lot from your video..Thank you so much!!. Big help for me. I'm a beginner in 3D animation...
You are very welcome Mark !
Hello from Ukraine))
Hi
Mike sir will you please make a tutorial of how to texture a Computer Keyboard in keyshot????
I have put a hold on requests for a little while as there are simply too many, sorry
Mike Hermes It's ok but later on will you make it???
I will add it to the list but it might take months ( I have over 200 requests )
Hey Mike, when it comes to PBR, do you prefer Metalness/Roughness or Specular/Gloss?
Not really, some game engines don´t even give you a choice.
EDIT: Other person deleted their comment.
I use PBR Metal unless the model contains glass, plastic etc
hi from iraq :) nice tutorial mike
what deffrents between glossines speculer and metalic roughness workflow
sorry for my bad english
Metallic roughness typically relates to the entire surface while specularity can be part of a surface
you just listed maps but did not really explain them
i think title is misleading. i thought you will talk about actual 3d textures in maya.
Did I say Maya anywhere in the title or description ? And yes, I am talking about actual 3D textures
ARE YOU SURE YOU WATCHED THE VIDEO -_-
u waste ur time and our time to replay 2 u
just use google and type "3d textures in maya." simple as that
thanks mike for the tut :)

When working on a still render image you can overlay the AO, When working on a game prop, obviously not
Hey man, 10x for reply
"obviously not"
___
But why obviously not. I can't not understand.
There are some windows sounds occuring in the video, otherwise, great job!
Yep, sorry about that
sir you are awesome i am actually pursuing 3d modelling and you helped me a lot can you plz upload some videos regarding texture it will help me a lot #love you videos
I just did
:)
Title is misleading. I though you're talking about 3D textures.
