Just went under my pilot and found exactly the same thing. Leaking around the oil pan. Thanks for the video.

Thanks so much for your video. I'm wondering if you can answer a question for me. Some people are saying you have to drop the subframe to remove the pan and it looks like the hack is to unbolt an engine mount and lift part of the engine for clearance.. Is that true? If so, is it just certain models? I have a 2006 Pilot EX 4WD.

Great vid, simple and to the point, but my question is on something else. I recently tried to check the oil in my 2010 Pilot and realized that the dip stick had broken off in the tube. I tried everything to get it out but no luck.
I read in a thread that the Vtec Spool had to be removed to access the stuck dip stick. But i just saw that the dip stick was hanging freely in the oil pan. Do you think its possible to pull the dip stick down through the tube by way of the oil pan?
It seems that this way would be a little cheaper to do than removing almost all the top end of the engine.

Depends on where the dipstick broke off at. Honestly, oil pan removal is about the same time commitment as removing the intake manifold and front valve cover to access the spool valve. Good luck! Would be happy to help answer any further questions. Thanks for watching!

Yes I like your video. I been skeptical on doing my pan because of my worries of breaking any bolts regarding the cats. I’m thinking about going for it next Saturday morning. Any suggestions on those cat bolts?

It might be helpful to spray the with W40 to loosen them a bit if you are worried. Just make sure you are careful.

What separates good videos from great videos are details. There are no torque specs mentioned or listed in this video. Torque specs are especially important for exhaust components. Also, don't want to over or under torque that oil pan with the new gasket. I wouldn't just let an exhaust pipe dangle either; supporting the pipe while moving out aside a bit with a bungee cord is a good idea.

Kinda an odd question, I’m going to be replacing my 2009 pilot oil Pan, and I’m always use to having a rubber gasket when I’ve done oil pans. How come we don’t have a rubber gasket to put on the pan and then add some Honda bond to certain edges to hold it? Just how the Pan was made or something?

    • @thepowerofyourvoicepodcast
      @thepowerofyourvoicepodcast ปีที่แล้ว +1

Old question, but worth a response. All of these are different. This is the same with the MDX. Some Honda’s have a very specific oil pan gasket and others just require Hondabond HT to create a gasket. This method of course is the easiest and less expensive method.

I like to ask if it would be the same as to a 2005 honda pilot in order to fix it. Please advise and thank you.

I'm doing this on a 2004. I've got the pan off, but now I can't install it. The oil pickup screen is in the way. I've tried to let it hang from that one screw toward the front, but I can't get the screen to swing the other way to put in the other 2 screws. Ive loosened the motor mounts, but there's still not enough clearance. Do I need to suspend the motor with chains and unbolt the frame?

  • @holyhyrax

On your video, you say to use a pry bar on the corners. In the Haynes manual it says "Use a prybar or screwdriver to pry the pan loose at the casting tabs - DO NOT pry on the gasket surface".
So I am confused where are the corners? Aren't the corners also the part of the gasket surface? I am also confused what they mean by casting tabs on the pan.

Whats the specs on the 10mm bolts? Is it 12nm if so I'm guessing it's the same for the 2008 acura mdx im doing, that being it's a j-series v6

  • @marko6394

What's the point of smearing the HB with a finger if it's going to flatten once you install the pan? Also, why is it necessary to go around both sides of the bolt holes? It isn't as of oil is going to leak past the inner bead.

Hi great vid, I wish I could have a lift to do this job as my 2005 Pilot is leaking oil. Question for you, how much would this job cost at a local ship? I'm in PA. Even a rough estimate would be greatly appreciated as I'm sort of up the creek without a paddle and don't want to be blind sided. Thanks

I could not find video showing how to remove 10mm bolts from oil pan on passenger side. They show only other side that is easy to remove bolts. It is really tight and no much space to reach. :-(
