    Another ( tasvideos.org/... ) version ( tasvideos.org/... ) of Prince of Persia... it has quite good music.
    The gymnastic master, the future prince of Persia, defies the odds and beats this game in record time.
    Interestingly, this game only animates at around 12-20 fps (15 fps on average), contrary to most SNES games, which animate at 60 fps.

    This TAS does not take advantage of the Sound Menu tricks to save real world time.
    At the beginning of the boss match in Level 19, you are usually forced to wait for the lengthy Jafar musical cue, which takes about 10 seconds. Once the musical cue is finished, Jafar will finally raise his hand, and summon the first Guard. Elsewhere in the game, Jafar will not proceed unless this particular music plays itself through. But in this one instance in Level 19, he will proceed after any musical cue. Therefore, as soon as you enter Jafar's throne room, you can hold start + select to bring up the standard sound menu. For the USA version, Press A immediately to select #1, which is the dazzle sound when the Konami Logo appears at boot-up. For the Japanese version, the first several selections are the various stage songs; so the best option is to Push UP once, and select #33 from the bottom of the list. This is the very short musical cue you hear when Jafar appears on level 13, or when the Fat Guard or Caped Guards are introduced on levels 10, 16, and 18. Once the selected sound has played through, Jafar will raise his hand, and the fight will begin 6 or 7 seconds earlier than normal. If the TAS were to employ this trick, it would save 6-7 seconds of real world time.
    This trick can also be used at the end of every level, replacing the End Music with a shorter sound, and triggering the Password & Clock box sooner. With this trick, over the course of 20 levels, a few more seconds can be saved in real world time.

    The boss fight at @25:43 was the most memorable one in this game for me for 2 reasons. That walking downstairs into. And his "oh no you didnt" head shake.

      The stairs? Not that he's ten feet tall and has six arms and rains giant skulls on you from above while doing twelve foot vertical leaps around the room...? The stairs are the memorable part. Memory is a weird thing.

    A point of clarification on the animation of this game. The game actually does animate at 60 fps. The console pushes out new frames at 60.09881389744 fps, and each frame can be used for new animation. The key word is "average." On average, most of the sprites tend to animate themselves once every 4 frames, which works out to "15 fps." But this is a long-term average. Sometimes sprites and objects may animate every 3rd frame, or every 5th frame. And different sprites and objects are not required to all animate on the same frames. So there can be different things animating on different frames, with new action occurring on every frame.
    Strobes are typically 3 solid frames of color, followed by 3 consecutive frames of level visibility. However, strobes can also be seen in different patterns, such as 1 on & 3 off, or 3 on & 2 off, or even 1 on & 5 off. I've also seen 2 on & 2 off. Each pattern gives a distinctly different speed impression upon the eyes.

    I'm surprised I never played these games themselves. The first of this style of game I ever played was Oddworld for the PS1.

      The Oddworld PS1 games were obviously the true successor to this. A few of the Ubisoft POP games have been good but I always wonder if Jordan Mechner will ever come back and make a proper Prince of Persia 3 as a direct sequel to the original games.

      I don't think there's any RNG except when a guard is fighting you (with your sword out).

    you can do the "Kill" Glitch/Debug to get -2 Seconds in the first level (but takes reset the console)

    during the battle 32:04 why did the enemies all die so quickly?

      Anuwat Termsrithong it's a glitch. all enemies die when they fall more than 1 floor, and those enemies in level 19 are spawned in the mid air. they don't fall to death because they falled only 1 floor high, but when the prince jumped the game judges prince is located in the second floor and kills the enemies like they falled in more than 1 floor.

      This is a fun little glitch at the end of level 17. The prince is against the gate, and as he turns, he begins to draw his sword out. The trick here is the prince's HIT BOX is temporarily wider, since his legs are spread apart as he pulls out the sword. The pot hits the prince on the head at the same time, resulting in death, since he was down to 1 health. The Wide Hit Box allowed for him to take a position slightly past the gate, so after dying, the prince will begin to crumple and fall to the ground dead. But the way the game works, the Death Music is not triggered until the Prince goes all the way down to the ground. With the Far Left Position, the prince's body crosses the Exit Plane before he is all the way down on the ground, so the Exit Music is Triggered FIRST. Now, to prevent the Death Music from being triggered, the Select Menu is brought up to freeze everyone in place, so the prince cannot continue to fall down.
      I did a similar trick on level 20, by falling to my death, but landing on the ground past the exit line, so the exit music was triggered first. The funny thing is, in that situation, since I was dead, the game would not send me to the princess' room, but instead sent me BACK to Jaffar's arena, where I lay dead, and no Jaffar. lol.
      By the way, somewhat unrelated, but interesting. If you edit the ROM to add an Exit Door inside the battle arena, the Prince will exit the arena, and go into Training Level 1, instead of back to the hallway.

      lol, yeah, I've seen that happen before. There's actually another teleport door later in the level that is so close to the left edge of the screen, that you can access it by standing in the next room to the left. Standing at the far right edge of that room, you can push UP, and the prince will go through, even though he's in the wrong room, and then he will start flying around the level, going through walls all over the place, and finally die after falling through the bottom.

      that happened to me as well, i replicated many times, and so far i found out 2 thinks can happen, either you get hit and teleport to the next room but you don't come out of the door, or when you get hit the guard dies and you get stuck at that same room

      Just play the first level like a normal player, go left, and you'll find a sword in the level. The action button attacks, and you pull the sword out automatically when it's appropriate. If you want some practice, the fifth training level is all sword fighting.

      It's just a quirk of the game. When the spacing and timing are exactly correct, you can start a jump sequence which will step over a 1-unit hole. In my opinion, it is not something that can be done consistently, and only works in certain situations. I find that when someone makes use of this technique in a TAS, you can manual try to imitate it in that exact situation, on that level, on that screen, and it may work. But I can't do it consistently by hand.
      It took me about 40 tries to jump past the guard on the first level, and I simply cannot do it in other situations.
