Actually, given the description of the Mastodon, it might be the other way around. "various photos exist taken by recon planes and spy sat cameras that confirm the presence of a very similar design in the Chinese bases, during the Russian invasion on their soil." The back part of the Iron Dragon Cannon does look like a small plasma railgun, so maybe it was a combination of particle collision tech and pyrokinesis that led to plasma weaponry?
