Hey Dave ... eel is my best bait to use ... I catch eels at night in the Delaware River in New Jersey. I Vacuum seal and freeze them. The Best Catfish Bait Ever ....
Interesting fact... All American Eels are born in the Sargasso Sea. They drift to the coast with the tides and current. That's why Virgina and North Carolina have the best eel fisheries. When they get there, they are just old enough to swim. I could be mistaken but I think the females go up the freshwater rivers and the males hang out near the coast and estuaries until they mature which sometimes takes up to 7 years. When I first learned this I was calling BS because I've caught them in ponds several times, but once I thought about it each one of those ponds are connected to a tiny creek, branch, or some type of natural drainage that eventully flows out to a larger creek which flows in to Pee Dee River. They are the only fish that lives in freshwater that spawns in saltwater.
Watchng you catch them from Kansas. I hope that someday you are able to upgrade to wide bottom boat, maybe nice sized Lund. And outfit it with a motor capable of putting you up on plane and moving you around on big waters like the James River, and other big waters when you travel. Of course getting off any water in a hurry is nice if a storm rolls in. Wishing you tight lines and great videos.
I just started watching a few days ago. Love your videos. What I am learning is to take as many different baits with you as possible, try different spots, try differt techniques, learn to use the fish finder. You have been a tremendous help to me already. Thank you Catfish Dave! I forgot one last tip. Always take some cheese to nibble if the fishing gets slow.
My wife and I love your content Dave, keep up the amazing videos. If you ever want a catfish challenge, look into Brookville Lake, Indiana. We would LOVE to see what you pull outta there. 😁
Love the video's Dave and the sarcasm isn't missed...Suggestion - next time you fill up with gas, grab an extr pair of those cheap plastic gloves. Save your hands, rods and everything else you might touch after baiting up eel...
Dave man, love all your vids.wanted to give you a little tip what i do here.i take an old towel with me for my hands ,and when it gets bad i take it in and wash in washer machine.just a tip Dave, helps them slimy cat and eel hands buddy. you are my new Hero buddy.thank's for some great vids.
Wish I could fish as much as you dave but I have to work a full time job building airplanes sucks big time but not everyone can make money catfishing your awsome Dave and thanks for everything you do
Dave we used to salt the eels on our trotline for crabs they would keep well for a whole season without keeping them cold we recoiled the line in a 5 gallon bucket and salted didn't have to re-bait everytime
I've used eel . Work good in saltwater, too. I caught a lot of them, saved them for bait. The trick is to roll them in dry sand, keeps the slime off your hands, helps preserve the bait.
I live in Northern Virginia and always use Eel on the Potomac River...moving to Tennessee next to the Cumberland River..never thought of using it there but will now
Dave you can get a cheap box of rubber gloves at wal mart. Put them on bait up throw them away. You said the ell stayed on good so you wouldn't have to be putting on the gloves very often. Just a suggestion. Enjoyed you video. 😊😊😊😊😊
Thanks Dave. I really enjoyed your video. I missed the music but you caught so many fish on 8 day old eel,you would have had music on throughout the video.
One thing that might be of value to those that keep and eat some fish they catch-Stinky baits will add a certain flavor/scent to the meat you cook. I've seen it when fishing in ponds with the old Catfish Charlie dough bait that smells like sheet. Tastes like it too.
I use eel all the time in Virginia and it never disappoints. I always try to have fresh eel and have found once frozen it loses its catfish appeal. I usually run 5 lines one live eel and 4 lines with cut eel on them. Most the time the cut eel is good enough but sometimes they want that live one.
So after watching all of your videos on this channel through the years I think I have your preferred cut bait order now. #1 American Eel #2 Skipjack #3 White Bass #4 Chicken #5 Gizzard Chad. Lemme know Dave how I did. Thanks for the great videos.
I REALLY enjoy your videos. Where did you buy the American Eels? I bought 12 for $35.00 from the only place that I found on line then with shipping it came to almost $100.00. These eels were about the size of my thumb but looking at YOUR eels they are 2x that big. Not that I can afford this extravagant type bait but seeing that you were catching the heck out of them catfish I figured if I just caught a couple of 5# channels to feed the better half and myself I would be happy! 2 hours and NOTHING. I moved after each 20 minute attempt and set the clock after I was all set up. I am fishing the Rock River (which is close to me) in Wisconsin (Janesville area). ***** Nothing like enjoying peace and quiet while on the water! LOL I've never used a planer board. Can you show us your set up?
I’ve used eel three times all in Texas, never even had a nibble even left baits in the water over night. I am gonna try it again maybe it’s a time of the year thing?
Dave, Is that a spook you have tied on your line? That spook floats. Please explain your thinking using the spook on your line for catfish. I'm not doubting, I've seen the results.
Woohooooo! Boys! I got private access to the river, right where one of my favorite big creeks bumps into the river. I've fished the mouth of that creek in my kayak. Me and my boys are hitting it in the morning. ;)
Maybe it doesn't fit into the Catfish Dave image, but I would have to invest in a box of disposable gloves at the $1.25 store. Other than thst, eels seems great bait.
i just love your commentary on your videos. pleasure boats giving yo more pleasure and only you would have an airplane on the lake in you video.. keep 'em coming..
Cover the eel with sand and grip around it with a rag and slide it through the rag and the slime will come off with the sand. That's how we got it off the eels we caught in a tide water river I fished years ago.
Those have to be wild caught by trappers, farm raised eel are nowhere near that big. The eel farm would have several years and $100 of feed to grow em that big.
I just don't understand Dave anytime you're out on that Lake them people out there bothering you I just put my foot down and tell them get off the lake that's your Lake , to fish in I know it is and I enjoy watching you fish catch them all buddy
He can dunk 'em, drag 'em and drift 'em. Catfish Dave is the man
Yeah that's a good livin'😂 The Best.😊

That was some awesome fishing out there on the tarmac.

Correct, the females will travel up rivers.

Somebody has upgraded their camera set up it looks like. It's as clear as if I was in the boat with you. Nice!

We have hundreds of thousand of fish eels in the St. Johns river ( Lake George ) in Florida and they are great to eat also.
Gotta get some of them eels for here in SC!
Apples are 90% water anyway. Love your videos. I haven't heard any barking dogs in a while. Stay hydrated and be safe. Thomas, Mississippi!!!

As you said, a box of nitrile gloves would last a long time.
Sounds like you've never touched an eel. @@crazycajunj1703
Can we get a comparison video in the future with skipjack and/or chicken? Thanks Catfish Dave great video
Thanks Dave. I really enjoyed your video. I missed the music but you caught so many fish on 8 day old eel,you would have had music on throughout the video.

Hi Dave, how about trying Kentucky lake and lake Barkley for cats.
I use eel all the time in Virginia and it never disappoints. I always try to have fresh eel and have found once frozen it loses its catfish appeal. I usually run 5 lines one live eel and 4 lines with cut eel on them. Most the time the cut eel is good enough but sometimes they want that live one.
Would like to see you fish nickajack with some fresh eel
Looking up eel futures on the stock exchange.

I caught one of those slimy things that was as big around as a soda can. I didn't know not to grab it. I used dry sand to get the crap off my hands.
I REALLY enjoy your videos.

Woohooooo! Boys! I got private access to the river, right where one of my favorite big creeks bumps into the river. I've fished the mouth of that creek in my kayak. Me and my boys are hitting it in the morning. ;)
