Man I laughed all the way through the video. I'm so used to watching dave pull in thirty to forty pound fish It was suddenly like watching myself fishing. Here in my area, south east texas a box of two to three pound catfish is considered a good days catch. Over my nearly 70 years of fishing I've tried shad ( works fairly well in some lakes and not at all on others), blood bait ( after being in the water awhile attracts lots of small channel cats), live minnows ( catchs the occasional cat), liver ( chicken is too soft but beef liver is tougher although it should be fished on a small tremble hook), canadian night crawlers ( works very well much of the time), cut bait ( occasion fish), gizzards (fantastic trot line bait if you want a full line of snapping turtles, ask me how I know), my normal is shrimp(unshelled for salt water, always shelled for fresh, you're better off holding the rod rather than sitting it down as each strike will lose the bait, fresh is good but old orange and smelly shrimp works well too). I've never tried chicken but I have some marinating in the fridge with jello and garlic. Now all I need is a warm enough day to try it.
Fresh natural baits are hard to be beat. Buuuut when you can't get natural fresh baits store bought baits chicken breast, liver ect is a nice alternative. Don't always catch fish on them but I did catch my pb 40lb blue on chicken breast and anise on the KasKaskia River.
@@2strokin70 what type of chicken breast are you using? Frozen, thin stew type breast? Bone in breast? I prefer the huge cheap kind thats really thick and just cut it into chunks. Frozen breast I seem to loose more of due to the freezing and unfreezing weakens the meat it seems like. Don't get me wrong Will still work but not as good as ones in clear packaged non frozen..also I use eagle claw sea circle hooks. 1/0 up 6/0 seems to hold up nicely on those style of hooks.
I'm a little confused how couldn't you get natural bait... I'm assuming you live in the us sunfish/bluegill are overpopulated in a lot of places... I guess if you go to the water after 7pm when sunfish come down
In south Texas, we used to bring shrimp and mullet back from our saltwater trips with us for catfishing in the rivers and lakes. The shrimp caught the numbers but the cut mullet caught the better sizes. I am in Tennessee now, and came here smack dag in the middle of the spawn.
I was waiting for this Dagblasted video for a very long time!!! Thank you Dave!! Now you need to use Big Canadian night crawlers from Walmart!! 🤘😂🤘 love you brother!!!!
To keep the liver on I took old electric cord stripped it and use a strand about 6" long. Put one end through eye of hook twist it and wrap it around liver. Works great
Hello Dave Yo go catch them catfish!. Enjoyed your post. I watch a cat fish post where this guy was real lucky. In 4 hour he was able to land 742 lbs of blue catfish. Wow I watch the whole video every fish was big 40 to 60 lbs unbelievable for anyone to have a that great of a day. He was a happy camper.
Everyone has an opinion and mine is this man can catch the catfish, and them fish with the strips, hell he catches skip Jack 2 at a time. Keep the vids coming Dave
I’ve caught a 15lb blue on a piece of chicken gizzard that was just 6’ from a live bluegill but that was certainly the exception and not the rule. I’ve not had that much luck on it so I’ve quite trying it.
Many times when I’m in shallow back creeks I’ll use liver on a 2/0 hook. Even if I don’t catch anything on it it keeps turtles away from my other baits.
So far, you have caught some really nice eating size cats. I would consider today, to be a success, if you were fishing to eat. I believe you would have a lot better luck fishing the grocery store baits at night, when the big Cats come out to feed. That is the way it has always been in the dead of Summer, catfishing at night gets the big ones. When the Queen Mary, and her tender boat came by, I was expecting a " Barge Bite " to happen, but didn`t. Great video as always. Would have liked to hear more Dobro music in the background, maybe some Jerry Douglas, if you wouldn`t mind.
Beef liver works for me here. We've just hot channels and bullheads. I marinate it in sardine oil left over after I eat sardines. A company called Thundermist Lures now sells Catch a Cat bait sacks to keep bait on your hook. They look like a red tea bag with a draw string, come in various sizes.
I’ve messed with them store baught baits when I was younger also!! With all the mess they tend to have they are just not worth messing with for me!! I use all stuff that the kitties have access to every day!! It works and it’s their normal diet also!! That’s my go to bait & if they are in the area I’m fishing at least 9 out of 10 times they will chew and I say the one that didn’t bite well he was already full!!! Awesome video Dave keep up all the hard work buddy!!
Hey Dave, if your local laws allow, try using a small blue or channel (pound or less) for large flathead bait. Snip the fins before putting it out as bait. Thanks buddy, I enjoy your channel.
I've had not much luck with chicken gizzard or liver here in Indiana, unless you count all of the turtles that hit it!! This video is a nice change of pace Dave!!! Can you try some cut hotdogs soaked in garlic powder to test them??? You are the MAN Catfish Dave!!!!
I use shrimp as my second choice after cut up gills. The bonus is that I can catch carp too. With the music playing while your fishing its like watching an old episode of Sesame Street.
I watch an old guy from the UK who uses rainbow trout for sea fishing with great success. Trout, steelhead, and salmon are quiet oily. Also if you can get it, mackerel.
For me chicken liver has been my channel catfishin go to. I don't fish with shark hooks tho. Mostly 2.0 eagle claw j hook. If I'm somewhere with blue cats or fh I'm fishing blue gill heads or whole gills. Chicken tiddies & night crawlers are a solid option too. Thanks for doing the shrimp & gizzard test .I get asked about those too & don't really have any experience with either
Grocery store bait used in algorithm fishing by Catfish Dave. Another Tier 1 fishing performance by my man 👍 Plus, new fish catching music that’s showing a new, hip vibe for my Gilligan hat wearing dude.
I only watch ur videos and Spencer Bauer from river Certified. Yall need to link up. It would be like a Hollywood movie. . . . Been waiting to see for like 2 yrs lol. Do ittttt
When I was younger us kids would put some anise in our chicken livers. So just yesterday I bought a new bottle of anise and I’m gonna try it again I think it will work with any kind of bait.
Best way I've found to keep liver on a hook is pantyhose. Liver is cheap and effective. Dollar store pantyhose works wonders. Wrap it up good and pass the hook through so it hangs off and the hook goes through both ends of your wrap, catching some meat. Or use a treble, pantyhose helps there too. Caught a white bass, a yellow bass, and a largemouth one night on it while catfishing. Got a haul of eater channels too. Almost anything will eat it, which can be a problem sometimes, especially with turtles. It's hard to beat for the price unless you get your bait for free. Good luck out there.
You know when we where younger and used chicken livers we put then in pantyhose and you could get it off the hook and every once in a while we could dip it back in the juice. Great content brother thanks.
Have you ever caught a blue channel flatheaded gar with a medium rare ribeye dinner and a side of taters? Lol just use the dag blasted baitfish in your body of water. Thanks for the great videos dave
I have used shrimp with cherry koolaid w/garlic salt to help it stay on the hook the last 4 yrs with good results for the smaller eating size but live bait will catch the bigger guys 👈
I enjoy these kinds of videos. I grew up fishing for channel cats with chicken livers. They work, but without using something to keep it on the dang hook, it'll come off in a heartbeat. Cut bait is much better.
I caught a PB 38" walleye on chicken liver in current summer time. I've used it for years and get it to stay on in river current with just a hook. You just have to pick a solid piece cut it to good size and hook it through like 6 times, threading it onto the hook.
I know you threw them out , but I love chicken livers for water size fish but under a bobber Seem to miss less fish when I fish them that way But you are right, they don’t stay on hooks well if the rod is just sitting in a rod holder I like your content , appreciate your video bud Keep it up
Can you give me any advice on what bait to use for small reservoir channel catfish? Last year i was lucky to get a 15 lbs channel out of a really small reservoir using bluegill heads. If you could give any advice i would greatly appreciate it. 🎣

I'm nowhere near the fisherman you are, but in my experience chicken liver will get hit, but then it is gone. You can put it in some cheese cloth or nylons, but that is a pain in the ass. I've liked cheese/dip/stink baits, but I use more shad now. Last year was the first time I tried to get some skipjack, and failed. Then there are always bream live/cut bait or whatever else will bite a small hook. We have some shiners but I haven't been able to catch them in numbers. Might try chumming them some soon. Working on improving my skipjack game. I'm limited somewhat by only having a small canoe. Never caught any from shore around here, though I should be able to at the big dam on Ar. river. FYI, gizzards are too good to eat to waste as bait. Shrimp are too good and too expensive.
Dave try stew beef coated in fish chum. It stinks but catches lots of fish. Put the fish chum in an old peanut butter or mayo jar, put stew beef on hook, put stew beef in jar and screw the lid on and shake to coat the meat. Do not get chum on you or your hands. It will have to wear off. A buddy of mine packed it like carp bait one time and his wife called me at 3am to make sure he was with me fishing and not somewhere he wasnt supposed to be. If you know what I mean.
I have never tried chicken breast or thighs but I have caught a lot of channel cats on liver, shrimp and chicken guts. The few big fish I have caught have been on chad, cut carp and blue gill.
Our man Dave in the heat he did slave, just to try different baits that he did rate, Thanks Mr. Dave a good video you gave!
Man I'm digging this music 🎶

Love the jazzy tunes, witty commentary, and the fishing. Thanks for sharing. I wish I could have half that luck with any bait.
Funky music using funky baits love it 😂 great video man 👍👍🎣

Lot of people use panty hose as well
Thanks again Catfish Dave! Laughing I am, watching your video after I got home from work.
Skipjack, shad and bluegill with an occasional mystery bait is all you need. Good video, keep them coming.
your videos NEVER disappoint thanks so much
Hey Dave get a piece of sewing thread and wrap around your chicken liver to hold it on your hook. It works great. BTW i love your vids
I was pretty excited just to see what bait will do better, great clip catfish Dave 👍
Love your humor Dave!
Love this video!! I use beef spleen here in Iowa. Best channel cat bait I've found.

Just an idea for the chicken liver. I use an egg loop knot. I've increased my hookups by using it.

Treble hook work better for that liver?
Was the cover music by the Meters? Thanks for the videos Dave!
I used chicken liver when I was young. We tied thread around it to help stay on the hook.
My biggest channel cat came on liver 20 plus lbs fla
Enjoyed the video, something different. Need treble hooks for the liver but it still falls off.
Try beef liver. It's tougher than chicken liver and stays on the hook better 👍

I want to see you use a fresh skinned squirrel for bait
Me to and a mouse
