  • The Japan Society hosted an event on February 9, where author Ronald Drabkin revealed the untold story of Frederick Rutland. Rutland, a British WWI hero and flying ace, became a spy for Japan in the lead-up to the attack on Pearl Harbor. Despite his remarkable aviation achievements, class politics prevented his promotion in the Royal Air Force after WWI. Living a double life, he contributed strategic and technical intelligence to the Japanese navy while mingling with Hollywood stars and military dignitaries in Los Angeles and Tokyo. Beverly Hills Spy contains groundbreaking information from declassified files, piecing together this fascinating espionage history for the first time.

Highly recommending Drabkin's book ~ It's complex, empathetic portrayal of F.R. needs to be a film. And I hope Drabkin produces it, as well.
