I'm happy to say, that in my life I was able to have many conversations with 2 WWII Vets. All those involved were just admirable people. What resolve, sacrifice, and determination. They are one of the reasons I say proudly, I'm an American!

My father was in the 325 Glider Div. attached I think to the 82nd Airborne. Saw action in Europe from DDay to the VE day. Never talked much about it. My mother told me he had occasional nightmares that receded overtime and seem to end shortly after I was born in 1958. He was "old school" and fondly remember thank him for that. His no nonsense helped shape me into the man I became.

Man I hope people in the generations after the WW2 always are schooled on why they are where they are. This is when you really fight for survival. England was almost erased from the map forever. So much is the way it is now cause of these hero's. Hero's who volunteered to die after we were attacked. Makes me have non stop gratitude. Now it's so soft.

I hear people talk down about FDR. My dad was born in 1920. He would tell me stories about how rough that depression was, my mom was born in 1928. From the sounds of it her family was in same shape as dad's. To them Roosevelt was the man. My dad really liked him as president.

How grave the training situation was becoming is indicated by the report of 19 February 1941, when General Marshall was facing a new British request for 900,000,000 rounds of American-made ammunition. "We have had to reduce the amount of ammunition for training to about 60 percent" of requirements, he said to his General Council.50 He also confessed his anxieties over the Philippines defenses, and over Hawaii where "they have to be prepared against any surprise attack," to which he referred at two smaller conferences of this period.

The US had the luxury of 18 months of peace to catch up with the axis that the European democracies didn't have as the Axis developed the determination to go to war years ahead of them. The war factories were able to ramp up under peace to get ready to go to war!

You're right, the US didn't win the war alone. But our industry supplied it left, right, and center. One slogan could have been, "Never mind, we'll make more." British and Russian nations made stuff too, but also operated a lot of American-supplied material. "The arsenal of Democracy."
