    I LOVE serendipitous "accidents" like printing on the "wrong" printer! You GOTTA' know that when that happens, someone's watching out for you. Anyway, this guitar is so special, and you absolutely deserve all the breaks, shortcuts, tips, tricks and workarounds that you get! Thank you, Jerry!

    Jerry I just had to pause this video to let you know for the first time I heard your song play this cross down that is the most beautiful thing I've ever heard you play. Where has that song been all this time I've been watching your videos. That was truly awesome please play that and stuff like that more often. Thank you Jerry

      We’re both in the business of fixing things (obviously, I’m a dentist). I laugh when I see parallels in our work, while I’m in a patient’s mouth. Then my assistant asks me what’s so funny. I say: “That’s how a guitar is fixed.” She rolls her eyes, and shakes her head.

    Great Job, Jerry! I so admire your perfectionism and craftsmanship. I especially enjoy you are always looking for a better way/easier way to accomplish the task. For those of us who dabble in building, it's great fun to see you work through a project. I love the wood binding and the beautiful inlay work. The two thumbs down are likely envious hyper critical sorts who would have trouble spelling wood let alone creating something with it. Ignore them, and many thanks for sharing!

  • @rfcarlson1

    The dremel tool will at the least will transfer the pattern to the shell. After that I'd recommend using a graver. Easy tool to make.
    You should give pumice and shellac a try filling holes. It'll fill the holes and seal the wood. You can keep adding pumice and shellac until the pores are filled because the shellac dissolves into previous coats of itself. It can fill pores to glass smooth.

    • @RosaStringWorks

      Thank you I understand about the pumice and shellac. I just looking for something that does it in one application and is totally clear.

    Glue inlay straight onto the wood craft knife around edge prize off inlay craft around the paten again for a deeper sharp edge....... powder down some white chalk and rub it into the knife markings this will bring up the paten of your inlay and have a visual stronger line to see more clearly

    Always a joy to watch you work, sir. Might I suggest just printing the design on the paper you glue to the head, before you glue it onto the head, sort of like you did with the mother of pearl? That way the routing should be easier. Just my .02, I'm not a luthier or a woodworker. Oh, and I thing Boudreau Guitars has an excellent suggestion too.

    • @RosaStringWorks
      @RosaStringWorks  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is my plan. I had already glued the white paper to the pig head intending to trace it with a pencil.

  • @1066wastrel
    @1066wastrel 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    now Jerry I`d never presume to teach you anything about building/repairing instruments, but in reference to how tight a fit the inlays need to be, I`d quote you Paul Reid Smith (who knows a thing or two about such things) he said his CNC machines routed so accurately that they had to add room in the routing for the glue, so I`d say yours were pretty much spot on!

    Jerry, I'm 75 and my grandpa turned me onto 'brushing lacquer' when I was about 10. They used to use it exclusively in auto finishing (model T and A era) and you could build it up to sand it back. I'm sure it would make the ultimate pore filler if you can locate a source for it.

    Hey Jerry, Do you want me to give you some advice? Like the others do. lol. I don't think I could give you any advice on this job so far. You are doing an awesome amazing job. I understand that you have tried a couple of new things here. The viewers should understand that also. I think it will be a very nice guitar. The neck looks great. It looks like a perfect size for a small to medium size hand. I am not sure how anyone coud give you advice. Until they have built as many instruments as you have and worked on them together. Anyway, I really enjoyed the video. Thank you for sharing it. (I can't promise I won't give you advice on the next video, lol.) I hope you have a Blessed Week.

    I've been using Krazy Glue and sawdust (from the wood-in-work) to fill cracks'n'stuff in my bamboo instruments since the 90s and it works better than anything AND is slightly flexible due to the dust AND matches the color exactly when I use the right dust (kept in Krazy Glue containers). I'd use it on a Stradivarius.

    Jerry have you ever thought of building your tops with a radius? I use a 28ft radius and it gives you a little slope from the top of the soundhole down to the neck/body join. You have to flatten the dome out of the top a little in that area (I use a flat sanding board across the side set and trial fit the top until it's right) and it gives a flat surface for the fretboard (with no fall away) to glue to and the proper clearance at the bridge. Cheers from Scotland. Guitar looks fab btw

    I've often had ideas that save a ton of work that I wondered why I didn't think of it years ago. On a different subject, I recently decided to turn my manual can opener sideways and cut the can below the outside of the rim instead of inside the rim. It works great. Why didn't I think of that before someone started marketing a can opener that is set up just to do that? Who knows, just be glad the idea finally came to you. Love your videos. Keep um coming please.
