    Hey Frank, you would do good hanging a "Bad Air: sign at that tunnel so others without a meter won't die in there.

      A person should never enter a confined space, without a proper meter, nist in case.

      The Iron when it oxidizes uses Oxygen ,the wood when it rots releases CO2. The Sulphur as well can form compounds like Sulphur Dioxide.
      That place is an invisible killer, glad you heeded the warning of the O2 meter, coz Oxygen depravation, similarly like Hypothermia makes you irrational and more likely to make stupid mistakes like - ignoring the O2 meter. :)

      Better yet, if you don't understand what the word "calibrate" means you should probably hire someone professional to do this job and you stay home and watch from the safety of your couch. For a cave explorer he's incredibly stupid and standing in water looking at Sulphur dripping down the wall and saying "I can't imagine why oxygen would be low in here" ...I thought "surely he's being facetious" but then when he "calibrated" his sensor and continued in further I realized that he really has no clue what he's doing and probably won't live much longer at this rate.

      Looked to me like he calibrated it correctly he tried to recalibrate in the tunnel after it was detecting low oxygen to see but went no further and immediately came out and calibrated in fresh air where it read safe . Not sure what more you could want him to do ? I’m not being a Dick I just don’t know what else he should have done . I use digital meters of several sorts daily and rarely are they 100% accurate especially those that measure chemicals in air content or lack of ... just curious I’m no expert with mines but I do have a pretty good amount of common sense and I would have done the same as he did I believe.

    Seeing below 19.5 is troubling. Thats the lowest I have gotten in a mine around here, any lower and I was going to turn back, but luckily that was the end of the mine. Was a massive mine, hundreds of meters in with lots of offshoots that I havent yet even explored. Its a bit of a hike to get to with no trail, its pretty clear very few people know about it. I was surprised I cant find any of your videos on it, it would be a cool place to watch you check out.

    You guys should look into the "Bottomless pit" of Flagstaff AZ. It's out by the driving range east of town off Walnut canyon road. It's shown on older topo maps. Geologists say it's thousands of feet deep and most likely goes all the way to the Grand Canyon 60 miles away. It's not well known at all.

    Hot springs will carry a lot of dissolved CO2, that's probably what's causing the low oxygen issues in there and not directly sulfur chemistry. Unless it was reeking and you didn't mention it, and the water's awfully clear for that much DOS to account for it... there'd be that mineral scum everywhere from acidic erosion, and iron rust would be blackened.
    If you had a little slaked lime you could stir a bit in the water and see if and how quickly it turns white, the hydroxide takes up the CO2 and makes calcium carbonate. I bet it gets milky immediately.

    So I just ran across this guys videos and I usually dont watch videos with titles that are obviously worded in such a way as to get views, in other words "CLICKBAIT". Against my better judgment I watched it. The video of the abandoned mine is really cool so the guy did NOT need to try and dupe people into watching it by using a very misleading title. I'll most likely not be watching anymore of his videos.

    • @exploringabandonedmines
      @exploringabandonedmines  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Either you enjoy the content or not...why use the title as an excuse to watch the content or not? If it wasn't for the title the video would not have showed up in your suggestions!

    • @ashleyhamman
      @ashleyhamman 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@exploringabandonedmines If people see something in the title, they expect they payoff of understanding why the title would be true or explained. As far as one could tell from simply watching, the video doesn't deliver on the title. You may as well have put "You'll never guess where we found this log!". It's just misleading, so why should viewers believe that your other titles will be true? People do make grabby titles for videos, but the good ones connect the two components together.

      Exploring Abandoned Mines, That’s absolutely incorrect, even assuming your viewers are watching this because it showed up in our recommendations (it didn’t for me). The title of a video is the *only* “excuse” to watch the content, because it’s the title that informs us of what we’ll be watching in the first place.
      You didn’t deliver on your title regardless of what we were shown. I came to the comments to find out what I missed and no explanation I could find.
      Yes, it’s aggravating to your (probably new) viewers whether you believe it or not.
