    ....STILL FOOKIN' ADORE that 80-83 period, though. Their music STILL HAUNTS me!...and will continue to do so 'til I die.

    as much as i love The Bunnymen Ian McCulloch does my head in he's so up himself! where as you could see Will down the local pub and have a chat with him totally unpretentious

    • @Archiv3sofpa1n
      @Archiv3sofpa1n 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Mac isn’t as pretentious as he seems in interviews. He’s had chats in local pubs with people, I’ve seen it in comments, because apart from his career he’s a normal man and he knows it. And he’s a good man. Read some more interviews with him, you’ll see the true part of who he is isn’t who he seems to be.

      But you can't see yourself going round Mac's house for a nice cup of tea?
      Oh well. You apologised so you are forgiven. I'm sure he wouldn't have taken offence anyway. Seems like a grounded reflexive kind of person here. Bit in his own little world but that's why he's an artist. Doesn't make him pretentious or up himself. I don't see any of that.

    I loved Mysterio. When I met Ian, I brought my copy for him to sign, and he was moody that night, but he took a picture with me. Still moody though :)

    Somehow, when pete died, they lost more than a unique drummer. Something very special in the band's chemistry was gone.

    They were a great band for the first 4 records but after Ocean Rain didn't really produce anything that was inventive. Just recycling old ideas. Evergreen and Siberia had moments but lacked the cohesion of their best works. Mac's overinflated ego didn't help either, you can't just fall back on your laurels, you must create if you wanna have longevity. Heaven Up Here is their best album imo. What a masterpiece. Still today it's the best post punk album ever made. Nothing comes close.

      I agree....The first three(Crocodiles; Heaven Up Here; Porcopine)...not a SINGLE mediocre tune in the batch! Ocean Rain: A-; 7 of 9 were GREAT. Every other album had a few moments...but much less often after Pete's Death.

    The album with Lips Like Sugar was solid, but everything went grunge and noise rock by the late 80's. Bunnymen were too melodic and steaightforword- like the Sniths and INXS to last through the decade. The only similar band to keep its sound and make it through was the Cure.Imagine if Duran Duran tried going grunge or hip hop- they would have broken up too. If they could have made it to Britpop, they may have lasted.

    • @versioncity1
      @versioncity1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      To an extent, but that grunge sound was more of an american thing at that time. In Britain in the late 80's everything was moving towards acid house and in rock the Manchester "baggy' sound which was pretty melodic.
      maybe the bunnymen just didn't really work with Ecstasy......

    I'll tell you what happened ... after Ocean Rain the music just became weak pap and pretty vanilla - Lips like Sugar was crap. I remember buying the records after Ocean Rain and couldn't understand where the vibe had gone - the band just gave up and died basically.
