How do psychedelics help you reach enlightenment or at least happiness? | Michael Pollan

  • As we see the amount of information and technology we have access to growing, we also gain a stronger view of universal human tendencies that are overarching in time and culture. One of those that is particularly fascinating is our desire to change consciousness, to alter our brain and our mood, whether it’s with drugs, food, or even activities like meditation and breathwork.
That’s one of the many reasons the emerging research on psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy is so interesting, especially considering it was completely written-off for decades after getting a bad rap in the 60s, despite having shown therapeutic promise in the 50s. Today on The Doctor’s Farmacy, I’m joined by world-renowned author Michael Pollan to talk about the exciting reemergence of psychedelic therapy and the possibilities it holds for the future of healthcare. Michael Pollan is the author of the New York Times bestsellers Cooked, Food Rules, In Defense of Food, The Omnivore's Dilemma, The Botany of Desire, and his latest book How to Change Your Mind, which is all about the new science of psychedelics.

Thank you so much for an amazing discussion. I outed myself to friends and family on Facebook stating DMT can and should save humanity, but we need to get the word out there for the planet to join the experience. I have seen and am knowing that if everyone saw on DMT what I have then religions would end, replaced by self connection and spirituality, racism would end and we would all know we are 1 race HUMANS, that megalomaniac dictators would become empaths and narcissistic greedy billionaires would become philanthropists. We would all live as one like John Lennon said, and the military budgets would provide food, water, medicine and housing for all humans. None of my FB people agreed with me, so it is a hard sell, but with brave people like you Mark and Michael, I am confident we can do it. Hopefully the momentum will build, and people like me who are not concerned with being judged and ostracized will increase in numbers, until the ignorant masses will listen and change their minds, and not judge us as junkies, but educated empaths on a mission to save the planet and humanity🙏🙏

@@zedaf4028 Wow, thank you so much for that, it means a lot. I really am tying to save the planet and humanity, but am getting no traction unfortunately. I am not going to give in though, because I truly believe those who know, have a responsibility to spread the word, no matter what ridicule they receive from the brainwashed masses🙏🙏

When I did shrooms in college the next few days I accomplished so much because of my trip. I questioned, what am I doing with my life? I felt odd in my house but when I went outside in nature, I was at peace. Great experience.

Funny story...Michael Pollan is one of the first people that I watched on Facebook that started to change my views on the food industry - th-cam.com/video/rbZBJT358_Y/w-d-xo.html - this was back in 2014, 5 years ago...since then I have learned so much incredible info by following people like you Mark! Thank you for all you do and educating people through truths in your podcasts! Please don't ever stop or at least keep going as long as you can!

Psychedelics are laxatives for the chronically emotionally blocked. But are being talked about so narcissistically, which tells you a lot....understand that and you understand the need to peer into this mirror.

I speak with Jesus when I smoke pot.
    My Christian friends cant relate.
I plan to write a book about what He teaches me about the NOW . He is the word or code within the ever flowing and expanding now.

It's all massively exaggerated and grossly simplified these claims. It's a much denser process than anyone is willing to admit....an asymmetrical brain does not illicit love easily, nor very much...that's a tertiary issue and rather irrelevant. Activation of the nervous system and brain hemispherical harmonisation are when the really useful stuff happens....and all this fluff talk becomes laughable. This is marketing speak for shopping mall mentalities.

Just a lame excuse to justify bad behavior. Like an alcoholic saying wine is good for the heart. BS.
