I 100% had ego disillusion until I took mushrooms. I was seeing me and my life, my motivations and fears more clearly those few hours than ever before. I've only taken them once and it 100% refracted my view of myself and my decisions and my feelings.

    • @Ewr42
      @Ewr42 2 ปีที่แล้ว

It's quite the contrary, at least in theory..
It's ego dissolution when you take enough of a psychedelic, you detach from your body's identity, you become a boundless infinite "soul"
Ego "disillusion" really doesn't work well because absolutely no one says that or is familiar with the concept you tried to infer onto it, it does make sense if one reads carefully and apply a double negative and correct disillusion to dissolution, but in the way you wrote it was kinda confusing
Sorry for being pedantic, but hopefully you appreciate it more than not, somehow

I've always admired Michael Pollan and his work, he should be mentioning that Terence McKenna was on this years ago and deserves credit for not backing down on insisting it is our right to explore our consciousness through psychedelics! McKenna was brilliant and all we need to do is to go and listen to all of his talks. If Pollan had truly dissolved his ego during a trip, he would give TM credit where credit is due

I would ease up on Pollan...he may have never spent any time listening to the bard. If you're a fan of him, you should lookup the psychedelic salon podcast run by a guy named Lorenzo. Almost all, if not all of Terence's recorded talks are there, in addition to so many other prominent minds from the psychedelic community. All for free from whichever podcast aggregator you use.

I love it - thanks for sharing Dr. Pollan’s work. “I am my own guinea pig” is a familiar idea that no longer frightens me.
I can tell you experientially that psilocybin mushrooms DO cure depression, if not permanently, then for at least 6 months to several years at a time. The pharmaceutical companies are already working on a synthetic version, which I’m sure will be engineered to be less effective. Herbalists have known since time immemorial that whole plants are safer and more effective because they contain “inactive” compounds that increase efficacy and mitigate any potentially negative side effects.
It’s a really simple solution: legalize the mushrooms. Leave Big Pharma out of it. Mental Health Crisis solved.

  • @elisemiller13

To the contrary, their Are people micro-dosing psylicybin daily. They report it's Not enough to have psychedelic experience & that's not their aim. My own one time peyote experience is one of the most beautiful memories of my life. Mushrooms a few times, taught me different perception. Did these experiences change me for the better? I'd have to say yes. Approach with caution, make sure environment is safe, and definitely have a guide if you are seeking, for "mental health". (my own were not guided experiences).

I think by denying (partly even knowingly by the authorities) the use of psychedelics, we have lost a natural connection and ay of mental growth. In nature, the mycosin, the mushrooms act as connectors for example between the trees in their roots.
Instead, since the Church hijacked our spirituality and locked us in a material mentality, we have not grown as we should have.
Physical material gains are the easiest and fastest, and most visible advances so we have totally forgotten to consider our mental and social state, left it out to be manipulated.
We think life as a competition instead of co-operation of parts of a whole, which is something the psychedelics make pretty clear.
No wonder the authoritarian elite doesn't want us to use them, as by making us fight against each other we are easier to control, and they are way ahead on the material game.
Great that finally these things are coming up, yet we are anesthesized to a point we are almost unable to act cohesively and collectively, unless led by some system of hierarchy.

I read This is Your Mind on Plants and enjoyed it. The chapter on caffeine stands on its own as the most interesting imo, but the other two are pretty cool in the way they focus on something unexpected.
I will say that this interview’s focus on psychedelics is not as present in that book. The third portion of the book is focused on mescaline, and it’s interesting to be sure, but it’s not as broadly interested in psychedelics as this interview. How to Change Your Mind might be a better book for that path of interest.
