    to prevent rot in those roots, if you didn't before, i'd recommend letting your cuttings and roots callous over for at least 24 hours before putting them in water!

    This video made me do the same to my ThaiCon. Now I have 2 (2-leaf cuttings). I will do leca propagation so wish me luck. Mother plant has 3 remaining leaves.

    I dab the cut ends with 3% hydrogen peroxide and let them dry for a day before i put them in water, and that prevents any root rot for me!

      Hi, thanks for the tip! How long do you dab them for? Do you then rinse them before drying, or just let them dry with the 3% peroxide liquid on it?

      The equation makes clear why hydrogen peroxide is such a useful tool in aquaculture. For every two molecules you add, you get one of dissolved oxygen and two of water. Simple and effective.

      @@GregLowmanArt so sorry i didn't see your reply earlier! If i'm just cutting the stem for propogation i dab both cut ends with a cotton pad soaked with hp and let it dry on its own, no need for rinsing.

    Hi! Thanks for creating a series of such useful videos on propagation - love these updates! Can I possibly ask when you started seeing some the roots growing on average? I am propagating a few cuttings of variegated monstera myself and I don’t see any signs of rooting - it’s been two weeks. Thanks again for such useful videos.

    Love these videos! Thanks for making them. I currently have a TC cutting rooting in water and am about to transfer it to soil. I'm wondering, how do you water cuttings that have been rooted in water? Do you water them more often to keep the soil more moist to help it adapt to soil?

    I have a Thai cutting right now rooting in water. It came with a root but it wasn’t long enough to pot. It’s been 2 weeks and it’s looking good. Someone told me to just put the roots in water not the node or stem. Do you do that as well? I changed the water today and propped it up so only the root is in water. Just wondering if you have to really do that to avoid it rotting? Thanks :)

    Did you let the cuttings sit for a day and callus before putting them in water? Or did you put them in directly after cutting?

    They look so good! Is there anything that could have been done to prevent the rot on the first two cuttings? I've seen people use wax or wood glue, but didn't know how effective that was. Do you keep the soil damp to help the transition from water roots to soil roots or just water as usual? Great vid James.

    • @Baetanical
      @Baetanical  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I’m not sure - it wasn’t exactly “rot” in the typical way I think about rot. For me, rot spreads quickly. It seemed more like the two cuttings just never converted their aerial root into a normal root meaning they never had a way to take up water or nutrients. They basically dried up even though they were sitting in water and slowly died over a few months. They would lose bits of their organic matter and after awhile the tissue was starting to break down. It didn’t seem pathogenic, but rather they were decomposing in a very natural way lol. Eventually I took them out of water, added rooting hormone and tried sphagnum but no luck. Too late methinks. I just water as normal, keeping the soil damp for the recent transplants. I’ll keeps them more damp than usual for a month or so then go back to waiting for dry soil before watering. Hope that all made sense lol.
