Fun fact: In Stolen Intelligence, we learn that the Spires of Stars raid was not approved by the Vanguard, and that it was a mistake to come to Calus' aid. The Vanguard believed that Val Ca'uor would successfully kill the Emperor, or at least weaken the Loyalists enough for a full Guardian assault to take place.

I think it’s interesting that Ca’uor didn’t promote himself to Valus or Dominus officially, he was the leader of the Red Legion after Ghaul’s death
The irony of this raid ending is that the val died like his leader gaul. Over whelmed by power he could not understand or control.
Ca'uor was a fierce warrior and a strong leader. If he had just kept his head down, he could've build up the Legion's strength. But, like Ghual before him, he was too prideful and ambitious for his own good. His 1 mistake was going up against Calus. True, Val Ca'uor had the strength and numbers to take the Leviathan, but he did not account for the Guardians to intervene.

You can only imagine Ca’uor’s total shock when he tears the first Calus bot up and realizes that wasn’t the emperor.
I might be recalling incorrectly, but when I first beat Val, I remember a bunch of Cabal leaping in front of him, in an effort to shield him with their bodies as he fell to a knee for his final attack. I’m hoping this was actually intended. The idea of the last elites of the Red Legion desperately surrendering their own lives to protect their heroic leader as he is mortally wounded, that could just be the best characterization Bungie has ever done for the cannon-fodder we dispatch without a thought. Not to mention the way he turns back to stare at the destroyed ships as they plummet downwards. I can’t think of another boss I actually felt bad for.
I really did respect the Val. He looked at a military disaster and did his damnedest to try and salvage it since his superiors were dead. The lore on the weapons show he was a great orator, and recognized that his troops were exhausted from the long Sol campaign

The calus lore is by far the most interesting I've seen.

It is some of the more interesting lore of the series. Adds some needed depth to the Cabal

I think that I'd say its some of the most interesting but the not the most interesting because of the books of sorrow and weapons of sorrow stories cause those are just phenomenal

Surprised Byf didn't mention that the Spire literally has stars tethered to it as a portable light-source for the Leviathan, thats my favourite part of its lore.
Val Ca'our looked so awesome and menacing, and had incredible music.
The only thing I hear when I see “Spire of Stars” is “DUDE IVE DONE THIS RAID A HUNDRED TIMES WHY HAVENT I GOT THE CATALYST YET AAAAAAHHH!!!”

You should do an in depth lore video on Saint 14 and his welcoming back to the tower. I remember there being some audio line about him getting a micro mini from Amanda holiday
Byf, you should do on all of the vex collectives like how you did the cabal legions
I doubt there's much point right now to. Unlike d1, most of the races have been condensed into one faction for most of d2 (House of dusk being a big example). Stuff like the Darkness worshiping Vex, Eramis and Mithrax's factions and the various warring Cabal legions left in Ghauls wake are much more recent things. The Hive are even worse, with pretty much all being under Savathun. Better of waiting till they all get some more time to shine
@@Lynch2507 I second that, especially considering that we already know we're going to be getting some new Vex in Beyond Light. Waiting until then makes more sense and will be easier for Byf.

@@brycen6268 they absolutely are, one of the biggest missed opportunities in destiny 1 imo was making the House of Kings the ones who uncovered SIVA, they're woefully underdeveloped. But for the moment, the universe needs time to breath before we can get into any more faction stuff

Could this bit of the lore from that sidearm be a cheeky jab at how so many players stopped playing during CoO and Warmind? That's pretty great. In-universe characters realized everyone went missing for a bit.
Possibly bungie has made similar jokes about the player base like us standing on caydes table in d1 a lore entry showing an average player from an outside perspective and numerous lore entries over how guardians are obsessed with dancing

Couldn't happen so many people were pissed that oryx was locked behind a raid after the ending of taken king. Personally I think val and ghaul should've been in spire together. You have the red legion against the wall and you defeat ghaul and one of his strongest loyalist. But ya know Bungie can't write anything into the game it's all in letters to the editor later.
To me the cabal are the most interesting faction in destiny. Unlike any other faction they have succeeded in taking the city, have devised numerous and clever tactics of war, have the resources that make them a hulking threat taking over the system and there is so much to be explored about their culture

I’m a huge fan of alternate history and whenever I watch and read about this raid I always think about what would’ve happened if we aided Val Ca’our and defeated Calus.
Would the red legion continue to fight us only this time fully united?
Would we earn their favor and have them aid us against the darkness?
I can’t go farther then these questions, but they are still fun to think about.

Literally the only one I can think of where we react to an actual current event
All the others don’t have that sense of urgency as it feels like we could of done them whenever it felt necessary

Not that I dislike the rest of Destiny lore but the Cabal and Leviathan in particular have always been my favorite part. Absolutely loved this series.

Cabal can grow larger with age and status.
Interestingly, Gaul wasn't that big. Bigger than an average Cabal, yes, but not the biggest we've seen.

@@Pejin8264 Yes and no, not directly. But if you managed to live so long and gain high status, then your ego would be acceptably high. (Why age? Bc cabal were based off spartans and spartans viewed old age as successful) . So yes, the bigger the cabal the bigger the ego.

This might not be the best raid but seeing that cabal command ship blowing on the background is the coolest thing ever. When we become superior retainer and go up to the ceiling destroying ship with balls, that maybe how calus look upon that ship, showing the glimpse of his power and that's actually scary.
I hope we see how Calus reacts to us using Darkness powers. Also will be interesting to see how he gained his powers, if he did get it from the Darkness what did he have to do to earn it?

They wouldn't stop coming. Vex, Hive, Cabal. He had slain hundreds so far, he had wondered how many more would he have to? For every time he died he slew another hundred and for every hundred that he fought he would die and so the bloody cycle continued much to Calus' amusement no doubt. But this time...
This would be the final trial.
The Warlock, Savos Uthrien, stood before the foes he understood best, the Cabal. Perhaps Calus knew, that Savos knew the Cabal the way Asher knew the Vex or Eris and the Hive. Perhaps that is why these prisoners of war, these once Red Legion, were to be his last foes. Savos had once studied the Eliksni, the Taken, and the Scorn, but only because they were immediate threats at the time, and never to the same extent as his study of the Cabal. He knew the Cabal as any Cabal knew themselves and they would be the last foes before him.
His armor was bloody and damaged, it was too risky to allow his ghost to heal him with so many foes around him. Instead he threw down a sword of Solar Light into the ground. This sanctuary protected him, his chest armor glowed as it absorbed the Light and power. Soon he was dipping into the Void, in between foes and erasing them before once again vanishing from sight. Finally, he let loose the Thunderlord to rain the storm onto the Cabal, a smile spreading across his face. With one last push, Chaos Reach fell upon the Cabal and sent sparks flying into the cosmos. Calus congratulated him and the warlock turned to the heavens.
What left the Leviathan that day was not what had entered it.

What disappoints me so much is that both SoS and EoW could've easily been their own raids, not just raid layers, if they had been given one or two more encounters.
I love hearing all the story for this thing in a chronological, coherent explanation said in a calm and clear voice, which offers a grand duality in comparison to the dumpster fire masquerading as a voice chat between me and my fire team trying to beat this damn thing
