I would listen to all of the songs in the car, holding on to every lyric...except this one. I didn't even know what it was about. Then one day, I was eating in a restaurant when this song came on the speakers (you know how restaurants, and many other public facilities, play music in the background on speakers). And I was like, "This is one of the songs on Dad's 90's CD! But I forget which one..." Then I realized it was Ants Marching--the one song on the CD that, fittingly for the theme of the song, I never paid attention to. I started paying attention to it a lot more after that. Fast forward a couple years, and my dad would give me his copy of Under the Table and Dreaming, along with many other of his CDs, when I was going through one of the hardest moments in my life. I listened to this song. I listened to it intently. I held on to every lyric (it helped that I read the lyric book) and finally made sense of what the song meant. And this song helped me through one of the hardest times in my life. Thank you, DMB.
