It's been 10 years since you dipped the boxes. How are they holding up? Was the ratio of rosin to paraffin by weight or by volume? Do you think you had it right? Or have you changed your mind?

Dennis Sitter I believe it was perfect. I am still using the same boxes. I’ve never thrown any of them away. They are really holding up well.

About how much wax is actually used for each piece? Obviously, you have to start with a full tank but after a dozen or so pieces you must have to add more wax.

Great video! The background is beautiful. The fog, birds chirping - it looks like you live in the Smokey Mountains!
You have a lot of bee hives!

I'm new to beekeeping, so I don't know, but I wonder...
If you dipped a box that was infected with AFB:
    1. Would it render it harmless by sealing it in?
    2. If it sealed the spores in, could they become exposed as the wax wore away?
    3. Would it contaminate the tank, and possibly other items dipped afterwards?
    Thanks in advance.

Hive ware dipped for 10 minutes at 160c is considered decontaminated from AFB at least in my country and we have pretty stiff rules about AFB.

good way to protect the entire hive box as compared to painting just the outside of the box... good idea to always have a fire extinguisher handy - safey is always part of the plan.

Please tell us the dimensions of the steel box you made! (L,W,D,H)
Do you ever add pine resin into your mix too?
    Thank you Richard

    Do you dip your frames?

It is the resin or sap from a pine tree that has been dried. Baseball pitchers use it in a powder form to help get a better grip on the ball.

It seems like it never goes down. I believe you could do 50 large boxes or more before you actually had to add anything.

paraffin wax is a carcinogen to humans. is it ok for bees? I love this idea, but I don't want to hurt my bees. (Only when burnt.) Almost everything carcingenic or toxic when burnt. And carcingenic doesn't mean it causes cancer only having the potential to cause cancer. Some people know everything. Great job mrneede!

No you don't want to dip the frames or the inner cover. They help control the moisture. Good luck if you have anymore questions just let me know. Thanks
