  • If you wanted to re-purpose the glass, removing these can be a real b****rd. I'll show you how it can be easy...ish. This is a free/cheap method using only a tea lite candle.

Fantastic fix! We’ve been struggling forever trying to take off similar leg supports that you removed from our coffee table that we’re repurposing! Nothing worked, and we were afraid to put pressure on the supports so that we wouldn’t break the glass. You’re the BEST!! Well done!

THANK YOU for this video! Super grateful. I had 2 round side tables whose legs were wobbly and falling apart, and thanks to your instructions I was able to remove the metal fixings and have re-purposed the glass tops by placing them on various round vintage items I had. It worked GREAT and I'm glad I did not have to throw away perfectly good glass pieces! Oh, and it only took 8 minutes each with the candle, and I used Nail Polish remover to remove the excess glue and it worked great!

This is exactly what I was looking for! I just got a new table for which I wanted a glass top and found one the exact same size but with the same aluminum disks glued on to it. Thanks for the video.

Thanks for the informative video. Timing seems to vary a lot so keep an eye on things. I put the tea light about the same distance as shown and set my timer for 20 minutes. I came to have a look at the progress after about 10 minutes and the fitting had fallen into the candle with very little residue but I had numerous blobs of splattered wax to clean up. LOL

Thanks so much for this video! I had a glass table top break and apparently the company I bought this table from makes these proprietary-sized adapters and refuse to sell them or new tops, so I couldn't buy them anywhere. I ended up using your video as inspiration and ran it under some scalding hot water to loosen the glue and it popped right off!

Wow! Great tip! I used a torch to heat up the metal for about 10 seconds, then used a pair of channel locks to twist it off. Super easy!!!

Thank you so much for this video. It helped me tremendously. One thing I did that worked even faster… I did not have a candle so I used a sterno. This worked even faster (about 5 minutes) and when pushed slightly with a wooden ruler, they all slid off quite easily. Thanks again for sharing.

I know this is an old post but I just stumbled upon it while researching methods for removing aluminum square blocks from the corners of 3'x 3' 3/8" thick tempered glass. After watching this video I had another idea since I did not have any tea lite candles on hand. I removed mine with a soldering iron which gives a very controlled and precise/targeted heat source. My aluminum blocks had a threaded hole in the center so I put the tip of the soldering iron in the threaded hole and I used a clamp to manage the cord and support the soldering iron. Took 5-10 minutes and a couple light taps with a stuby hammer and the blocks slid away. Residue easily cleaned up with acetone. No damage or marring of glass or the blocks.

I have a set of glass & metal bathroom scales, which are stuck in exactly the same way and I want to re-purpose them, as a surface, for my Polymer Clay modelling, so getting on with that today.

After the glue melts a little bit u can use a strong thread or thin wire to pry it from glass.

You are a genius, ‘make do workshop’ 😀
That method is absolutely fantastic, and with a squeezing too, the aluminium part can be be removed afterwards with astonishing ease, requiring to hardly apply any force.
    I’m very grateful 😉
By the way: in order to remove the remaining glue, just using regular nail varnish remover does the job perfectly in less than 2 minutes.
    Kind regards from Belgium.

Thanks so much for this video! Because of it I was able to salvage the aluminium circles off from a glass table I found on the side of the road! I really needed circular pieces like them for a project of mine so this helps tremendously!
I ended up applying a bit of acetone to hopefully loosen up the glue first and then hitting the aluminium with a butane torch (not literally lmao) and they popped off from the heat after about a minute or 2!

Great tip, 👍🏼 however, if you use a set of pipe grips the glue is soft enough to get them off in a few minutes, also the glue that’s left can be scraped off with a Stanley blade without the need of any solvent.

I opted for.the heat gun method, but not knowing heat would do the trick, you showed me how ro do this. Glass is so expensive. Someone gave me some old glass tops so I could use them in my classroom. Tried this before by using acetone and a hammer with chisel. I shattered them. This time, IT WORKED!!! Thanks!!!

Cool. I have the same problem on a table top I salvated and this could remove the metal fixtures on it. Any ideas on how to separate two pieces of glass that were bonded together (epoxy I think from the slight smell I got after scraping a bit away)? It's a rectangular 'tube' about 48cm high, 20cm on a side and glass 19mm thick (so the glued interfaces are pretty wide). I tried a razor but that only works to a mm depth or so then the glued gap is too thin to push the razor farther down . I'd throw the whole thing in an oven but I don't have any that big. I tried some acetone soaks on the seam which didn't work but I didn't use much either and it evaporated in 10-20sec. I'm afraid to use a heat gun since I can't heat the whole 40cm length at the same time and I feel like maybe the glass is going to crack if I don't heat it evenly. Not sure what else to try.

I had this glass scale that I was ready to give up on (I had been dinging at it with a box cutter >.< ).
I used nail polish to remove the left over glue instead of pure Acetone
(I believe there is a fair bit of Acetone in nail polish).
Now I have a beautiful pallet
