Effortless belting with pristine clarity - never a hint of yelling or strain. A bell-like tone, so rich and full. Amazing aural appeal, like a sunset is to the eyes or a bouquet to the nose. Tingles abound when she hits certain notes. And of course, that incomparable Streisand phrasing - always drawing the listener in, telling a story. This simply can't be taught or learned. It's what makes Barbra a singularly unique musical genius.
@@michaelasay8587 To each his own, but for me, listening to Karen Carpenter was as inspiring as watching paint dry. I know a lot of folks liked her, but for lyric interpretation and vocal perfections, she can't touch Streisand... not a diss on Karen because there's no one that comes to mind that can.
Underrated feminist anthem. Babs slays every time. And her acting is so spontaneous and good! The moment when she realises he’s set her up with backing vocalists is priceless✨
Empress, this move was more complex than a "mic drop". This was called the "around-the-world cord-snap and mic-slam combo with a side of now-say-somethin' glare". It's perfectly executed here. 🙌👏
@@RBS_ 😂 Me watching the movie: Pause-tap rewind-pause-play. Pause-tap rewind-pause-play. Pause-tap rewind-pause-play. Rinse. Lather. Repeat. 😆 Have you ever seen the second time she does it (I think in 1978; not in the movie)? She does eliminate the mic slam the second time...
Girl, you have got to watch Barbra's 1976 A Star Is Born... the best version imo; a close argument can be made for the 1954 Judy Garland version. The closing number of the movie though... well...just have tissues nearby.
@@EmpressReacts ok I'm gonna have to do some research becuz I heard you auditioned for the Voice. You need to audition for whatever you can where you live. Do you have any professional recordings? A CD? My sister died at 38, hospitals fault. She had the voice of Karen Carpenter and didn't get to do much with it becuz of our horrible childhood. It just breaks my heart ❤️
I think the one you’re thinking of is the finale “With One More Look At You/Watch Closely Now”. She comes out in a suit as well and starts off similarly, and does cry in it.
Don't get me started on Barbra. Babs was the successor and prodigy to Judy and a host of other classic jazz belters still famous in the 40's and 50's when she was coming up. Aside from the Broadway stage, the movie musical was the next big venue for stardom. Babs didn't have the looks but she had comedic ability and rode that comedic wave for most of her early career. She later became a big enough star that she could vie for more dramatic roles and show her full range as a pop singer and actress.
Yes, Barbra had a rough childhood and even as a young woman people told her she was all wrong. If you notice she does not have the typical look of celebrities of the day. And back in the day, it was expected that women would define themselves by what men wanted. This assumption is always hanging in the background of her work in the old days.
Yes.. You need to see this movie... Great performance by Babs... My favourite though is, Yentl.. Its, an incredible film and musical score, her passion project... And contains some really powerful songs.. Another film of hers Prince of Tides.. is brilliant alongwith its theme song Places that belong to you...

Streisand, Sidney Poitier, and Paul Newman founded First Artists. That meant anything over budget she was personally responsible for as "Executive Producer". The movie came in at a budgeted $6 million and Babs spent another $1 million doing whatever it was she did (sound stuff).
