- Katie Cooke has a lifestyle clash few others can rival. The 19-year-old from Dublin is a competitive runner - but her chronic epilepsy means she has around 16 seizures a day, often during races. When other competitors see her fall to the ground, they naturally believe she needs to go to hospital - even though she normally recovers immediately and in her case, there's no need for medical intervention. Even though she's grateful for the public response, all Katie wants to do is carry on running. If the title was about the same person with a condition working in an office and she loses consciousness noone would think it's the office work that makes her do it.
So really it is actually bad reading comprehension that gets people with the fact you anticipate another answer or theorise one

@ that does not work for everyone. it's extraordinarily strict, too, you can't cheat _once_ , and you have to be seizure free for at least a year to be considered 'cured'. you're still at risk, always. it depends on the root cause of the epilepsy.
@@TeenDream888 Interestingly enough, I've done my research on epilepsy, and in essence it's the brain detoxing from heavy metals and other toxins that got stored in the brain. Since toxins get stored in lipids, and the brain is such a fatty organ, this causes seizures in the brain's attempt to "detox" itself. The reason a long-term ketogenic diet cures seizures, is because you eat a lot of fat, which replaces the toxic fat in your brain with new and healthy fat. Also you run your brain on ketones which is the preferred fuel source for the brain. Ideally saturated fats as in butter and animal fats, fatty fish, brains, liver and egg yolks are the best foods. The saturated fat will also increase levels of cholesterol necessary in repairing damaged brain tissue.

Even if I take 10 mins to stand up, I go splat. Or I start walking then my whole vision goes black. I’ve learnt to walk near walls so I can lean on them.
she doesn't lose conscience when she runs. she has 16+ seizures a day, and she runs to help herself, while she's running she has a seizure. the runny doesn't cause her seizure.

I have narcolepsy and other complications from 2009's H1N1 and as of a few months ago, my condition worsened and now I usually have 25+ events daily and sometime pseudoseizures. Some days I have just a few symptoms. I have only managed a few runs this month and this is inspiring to me personally, as I was unsure this was safe.
Some events really impress me with how committed I am to myself during. Never give up on yourself!
I love how she doesn't even care all that much. She's just like "Yeah, I have seizures, it's super annoying but like, I can't do anything about it."

It's so nice to see another epileptic athlete, and NOT MAKING EXCUSES! Good on you, girl. Go for gold at the highest level if you want to - it is possible.
I'm a 32 years old woman, have had uncontrolled epilepsy since I was 4 years old, yet against the best able-bodied athletes in the world (many on performance-enhancing drugs) I became a world class athlete in the toughest sport on the planet: cross-country ski racing. Having seizures racing set me back for sure, but it makes us resilient and determined to prove we're as good as the others who don't suffer from these things. I also became an unbeatable rider on the horse show circuit and won prestigious showjumping competitions whilst actually having seizures.
Because of the resilience I have I'm trying to become a Global Ambassador for Epilepsy (and another life-long condition, extreme hirsutism), so would appreciate any peer support I can get from everyone, and Katie Cooke, you're the sort of kid who could back up my plight as a no-excuses,tough-as-boots-epileptic athlete I'd be honoured to have on my side.

My wife had chronic seizures when we me roughly 12-15 a day it's been five years she's doing much better now fortunately. It was due to a brain injury creating a blood clot. I know it's tough 😥 but you are stronger than you know 😉 trust me! Keep it up 👍👍💪👌

carbamazepine 200 MG is what she needs my mother is on that and it really helps. My sister have the same seizures but she refuses to tell her doctor to increase her seizure meds or put her on carbamazepine 200 MG even though it will help her.
I used to have epilepsy (I have ASD, autism) but this is obviously more severity than what I had, it kinda just went away when I was 12. I haven’t had a seizure for 3 years.

I've heard they can have surgery to fix seizures but I guess not in your case. At least you got your neurologist to run with you that's a good thing. It definitely sucks to have seizures and drooling everywhere. Mine can last for a long time and I stopped breathing.
