As someone else said, this version of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" always makes me think of Dr. Mark Greene's death. To me, Dr. Greene's illness and death and Lucy Knight's death are two of the most memorable story arcs in television history.
Take what they have left and what they have taught you with their dying and keep it with your own. But don't let the past weigh you down, learn from, then live for them, for yourself
Its a rare scene that can get me emotional so many years later..... It was one of the best casts ever put together. Much better in the earlier years too.
Every time I hear that song playing, wherever I am, I'm shedding a tear over the death of a fictional character. Shows how much of an impact even fictional character can have on you.
I have lost collegues and like in the show ER, the work dynamic is changed forever. I still cry when I see this scene. My all the health care providers who have passed in service to others RIP. Their work is done, no more endless masses of people who are so ill and in such pain. They have laid their burdens down while those who remain keep the memory of those who have passed close to our hearts. Grazie.
What a beautiful compilation! Made me cry all over again after 4 years of not watching ER because it is no more. I still miss it every Thursday at 10 PM. Will always be my favorite TV series. ♥
ER was a brilliant show, with quality scripts and top notch acting from the cast. When this particular episode aired I was sat watching with my girlfriend. As Dr Greene passed away and "Somewhere over the Rainbow" was playing I just broke down and wept like a baby. My girlfriend was also in tears and we just sat there and held each other. Even now after all these years it still gets me. It's a shame that after Anthony Edwards left the show, ER lost that something that made it so special. Still love the show though.
10 years after this Dr Marke Greene storyline, my husband had surgery to remove a brain tumor. Diagnosed with GBM, he underwent Chemo and proton radiation. It gave him 15 months. The 2nd tumor was very aggressive and inoperable, so he decided to be kept comfortable, until the end. Five weeks later, he was gone. That was 4 years ago.

Jimmy Kray George Clooney didn’t want want to take attention away from from Anthony Edwards storyline as it was his episode and the funeral from him as Clooney was on his way to become a movie star. Producers also decided not to have Clooney’s Dr Ross come back for the funeral. Dr Ross did come back for cameo appearance later in show.
@@scottknode898 I read somewhere that they actually planned to have Carol and Doug visit them in Hawaii and that's when Clooney decided it wouldn't be a good idea to take that moment away from Mark and his family.
There are about 3 clips that I always cry at...no matter what. When Shelby dies in Steel Magnolias, When Isabelle is 'invited' to be part of the family portrait at the end of 'Step Mom and when Dr Greene dies. All 3 of them remind me of my Mom and the strength and dignity she showed in the face of terminal illness. Especially Dr. Greene. it's been nearly 15 years and it still hurts. Every. Single. Day.
Bryce R the nail in the coffin of the show, was when they did episodes in Africa. I get they were trying to make people aware of what was going on, but too much. It stayed on the air at least 3 years too long. Like the simpsons now, I think NBC was scared of ending it. Seinfeld and ER on Thursday's on NBC was huge while both were on the air at the same time. The last episode was great, but when Benton, Weaver, and Carter left when they did, it also was more nails in the coffin so to speak. I wish they brought Rachel Greene back sooner to see her as a 4th year med student or intern. Would have been amazing.
Joe Ran your right when George Clooney, Anthony Edwards, and Eriq La Selle left the show changed and still continued to be a good show but it wasn’t the same especially when Archie Morris, Pratt, Neela, Gates, and others came in as the staff of Doctors on ER. It was not a great show like it was after Carter left as well especially after season 11 but I still watched the show all the way to the end when it ended after season 15.
Of all the episodes of ER, this one was my favorite but also saddest moments for one of the greatest iconic actors, Anthony Edwards. When his daughter let that blue balloon slip free from her fingers is when I lost it. What a terrific heartfelt episode.
After Dr. Greene death (S8E21) the dynamic of the series changed forever. It was never the same show anymore, and in season 11 the ratings went down irreversibly.

They did the same with Alex (Sam's son) but the second actor looked somehow similar to the first one, but Rachel?? A classic moment of a dying human being's last days on earth leaving the world as they wished. Classic. Real life. Real world stuff. Bravo Tony Edwards and Cast & Crew of, "E.R.".
With all these shows they're bringing back for limited episodes, would you want ER back? It's tough since only a handful went onto bigger or continued careers. George being the biggest? I wonder???
@@nancyglem good morning. I'd love to have even an ER Reunion show or made-for-tv movie. And Anthony Edwards should direct it! I think either one of those things would be great. They don't have or really make shows like ER any more. It's still good, even today. Best wishes and thanks for your comments.
I always felt like the Mark Greene/Elizabeth Corday coupling was one of the most gargantuanly "chemistry-free" relationships in the history of television -- I never felt like they fit together in any way, always thought it was an odd plot decision by the show's writers. But this episode and Mark's final passing was particularly effective nonetheless. I recall a deep, sort of stunned silence settling on the room while my wife and I sat and watched that final scene with the two of them. He was the heart of the show and when he went it was a real jolt to those of us who'd been with the series from day one. ER was never the same after that.
I have seen this scene at least a dozen times over the years and I still get tears in my eyes from watching it. I loved ER and really loved Mark Greens character. ❤
my best friend, my confidant, my sister in law died about the same time as Mark green, and she had brain cancer. lived 13 months after they found it. so this show has such a special memory for me RIP my sweet RABI love you

So I’m watching ER for the first time (I’m 19) and Dr Greene was my man. I just watched this episode and I’m so heartbroken. He wasn’t supposed to leave
This is my favorite series. Once mark died, I was very sad for Elizabeth. I knew she was leaving too. Those were two of the best characters on the show. Wish it could be some kind of remake ...wishing thinking.😍😘
Abby after marks death commenting on all the lives he saved ...FORGET SUPERMAN, I’ll TAKE MARK GREENE. 😢😢😢😢😢Elizabeth crying at the funeral is overwhelmingly sad 😞

Bring back as many of the original cast and other friends along the way as would be willing. And I just think Tony Edwards would be great to direct it.
ER was never the same after that.
lo que llore con este capitulo, hacia 20 años no lo veia, fue terrible.
Alex Kingston said that the episode where Anthony Edwards left was extremely hard for her too.
I am so sad I loved Dr Green Best Dr Of All Timed
I still tear up, when i watch this .....
I have seen this scene at least a dozen times over the years and I still get tears in my eyes from watching it. I loved ER and really loved Mark Greens character. ❤
my best friend, my confidant, my sister in law died about the same time as Mark green, and she had brain cancer. lived 13 months after they found it. so this show has such a special memory for me RIP my sweet RABI love you
I can watch the funeral scene over & over & every single time it takes my breath away & chokes me up. Watching everyone of their expressions & feeling their emotions - even that shrug that "Rocket" Romano does is touching ! 😭
So many I miss: Mark , Susie , Johnathan , Abby , Carol , Elizabeth and so many more I miss ER 🥺
So I’m watching ER for the first time (I’m 19) and Dr Greene was my man. I just watched this episode and I’m so heartbroken. He wasn’t supposed to leave
Hace 20 años ví toda la serie , pero no dejo de llorar desde que Dr Green es incurable
If the death of Mark Greene doesn’t touch your heart, you must be dead already!
What an awesome show!
No one can ever top this show.
👍👍👍👏👏🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
@MrTITODECAI I agree. Dr. Greene was the best on this show.
La più bella serie televisiva. Non mi stanco mai di riguardare le repliche.
I would have written it Mark and Rachel go off to Hawaii and live, Elizabeth visits often with Ella, eventually when she (Alex) is ready to leave the show, Elizabeth and Ella move there and they all live happily ever after!
quand j'ai vu la mort de mark greene j'ai beaucoup pleurée c'est triste
moi pareil c'était trop dur...............
Best medical show on tv
