I planned to put a little text for each hairstyle picture stating if it was referencing Zurich or London, but I totally forgot about it. Basically, the tight hairstyles were the ones I saw around a lot in London, where these loser-fitting updos are how people usually wear their hair in Zurich.
city-trends aside, i think the almond nails look so much nicer than square ones - so now you have the best looking nails in town 🤩
I like that you made the point that you should only commit to maintaining what is the most important to you, because the time, effort and money that the types of young women you are taking about spend on beauty-related treatments is mind blowing to me. Look, people can do what they want with their own money (and time, and energy), but I shudder to think about what it adds up to (financial, time and opportunity cost).
So I'd agree: prioritise what you want to spend your money on, but I'd add in: keep a sense of perspective and think about what else you could be doing with that money/time/effort that might be more valuable to your life in long run. You might still make the same choices, but at least you've taken a moment to really weigh it all up. It's nice to feel polished or put together, but perhaps not at the expense of other goals one may have.

I don't really recognize what your observations were of London style but maybe it was the friends you spent time with. I always find London style to be truly eclectic, which is why I love visiting, you can wear your own style and no one cares. I take my most "out there" stuff to wear in London. Be careful with the slicked hair look as you may get traction alopecia - see it in so many young girls. 😊
Was going to mention this, too, as a downside of that look. Regular strain like that on follicles causes them to die off and create bald patches that don’t tend to grow back.
Love how much thought and effort you out into looking smart! It feels like such a necessary part of adult life, but very few put the rules into words like you do. Makes it feel much less intimidating ☺️

London is a beautiful and fashionable city. The sleek ponytail/updos look fresh and polished. I agree that regular maintenance (brows, haircut/color, skincare, as well as the stuff that no one talks about 🤣) is important. BTW, you have great eyebrows!
I think British women look so much prettier without the self-tanning products they always use. I don’t know why they bother, it only makes them look orangish. Their natural fair skin is so much more attractive.
Almond nails are nice and more comfortable to write in computer etc.. but if you have very sensitive cuticles with trend to have hangnails… always square nails.
Sometimes the shape depends on the type of skin, nail, etc.

My idea of a “manicure” is clean nails, cut to the same length and filed smoothly to the same shape, the reverse oval of my cuticles. I like them short, just extending a bit beyond my fingertips to protect them. The shorter, the cleaner they stay and the easier it is to clean them. I’ve never done anything more than clear polish, it’s not necessary. I don’t style/curl my hair or wear makeup, either, now that I’m retired (a more polished look was necessary for my corporate career). Plus, my hair has changed a lot, it’s become curly as it grays. Clean, well-cared for hair and daily sunscreen are all I do. If wearing dark colors, which don’t flatter me, I’ll add some lip and cheek color. If you haven’t tried Vitamin D supplements and two cups of milk daily, you might want to do so, my nails are incredibly hard, fast growing and a beautiful chalky white at the tips. They help make hair fuller, too.

So in Zurich it is more tailored pants whilst in Bern I see more denim jeans. Who knew there was this difference between the cities 🙂
I always have broken, short hairs around eye length from wearing glasses and sunglasses, it just gets caught in the hinges and breaks from time to time. These can drive me nuts some days, sticking right into my eyes, so I hold them in place with clear brow gel. It doesn’t show, and that way I don’t have to spray a lot of sticky hairspray on.
You look great, so fresh.
The sleek hairstyles 😵 looks nice but it’s so bad to wear all the time. I think they’ll start to go out when people start getting more breakage.
I think in Zurich, you see some of the more London adjacent styles amongst teens. Slick pony or bun, baggy jeans, puffer jacket, etc. just because they haven’t really started their professional lives yet. You see more of the definitive Zurich styles amongst those in their mid-20’s+ who have started their professional lives and have more work/life/style overlap.

Such an interesting post Naja in terms of comparison. Tbh though, I love your Zurich/Scandi style so much more, and never really rated the London style at all as something to emulate. To me it looks too uncomfortable and overly slick.
If one assumes that applying makeup and grooming/styling ones hair is done to look attractive, then sticking your hair to the scalp is counterproductive.
