    That is freakin' awesome! My Uncle had one of those when I was a little kid and I always thought that it was the coolest thing I had ever seen! He was really good at driving it and also made similar crash bars on his that he had made out of coat hangers.

    Got about 40 of these in a range of conditions.The rarest version is based on a Suzuki Katana.Its called a citirider.Last time I looked it took me ages to find it mentioned on the internet.

      40 Kraft Eleck Riders!!! Yikes. I worked at Kraft when these were introduced and I only had one. Another one was donated to me after the fire destroyed everything, and I made a video on that one a little more recently that this old one, from 13 years ago. Check it out, and thanks. This one was brand new. Thanks. th-cam.com/video/j8hJp3FaF-E/w-d-xo.html

    Amazing piece of machinery. My dad bought one around the release year, and eventually I got it handed down to me. I see the video, and Dave was using the skid guards... it actually leaned and turned better without them!! Thanks for bringing back the memories!!

      So true. But at least it.never fell over on his shoulders and wear out the fabric as we did before crash bars. Here is a newer video of it as I recently got a brand new one. Thanks kindly. th-cam.com/video/j8hJp3FaF-E/w-d-xo.html

    I had one of these back in the late 1970's and it was a lot of fun. I bought it from Tower Hobbies, I was around 13 at the time. I don't know if you got any of the chrome nerf bars that came with them, I think there was two or three different sets that would keep it up right kind of like training wheels, the could be changed as your skill level improved. Since Evel Knievel was so popular back then, one to many jumps killed mine, but it was fun while it lasted.

    The front forks are setup wrong. The parts where the front wheel bolts to should face the rear, this way the wheel centerline of the front wheel is behind the forks themselves. That's why it turns so wide and wobbles so bad. If the bottoms were reversed the trail is then behind the fork pivot point. I own 3 of them.

    • @mattwyrick8394
      @mattwyrick8394 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly. It uses counter steering to make him turn. That's why the front forks need to be trailing. Set up that way and he should turn smoothly although it will not turn too sharp. You have to be moving at a fair clip to turn or even stand up straight but it shouldn't be jerky.

    40 years old bike. It looks exactly like the Kyosho bike in my 1982 catalogue (you can find the catalogue online as a PDF). Did Kyosho take over from Kraft?

    • @NightFlyyer
      @NightFlyyer  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. I hated to lose it in the big fire that destroyed all my vintage models and all I owned on 911, 2016. Kraft was sold to Carlyle Tire corporation, and finally went bankrupt, in 1982. Mostly it was because we could not keep up with the lower price of the Japanese products, which were JR PRopo, Futaba and others from Japan. Nothing was from China at the time. Kyosho was making models but not radios, so they were not involved. Thanks for commenting.

    • @NightFlyyer
      @NightFlyyer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Right on. You just need a 2 channel radio. I prefer, but could not find the Kraft 2 channel they came with, but I used a simple car radio with a steering wheel control for my new one. Here is a newer video, where I show how to assemble a brand new one, that I recently acquired as well. This may help you. Thanks much. th-cam.com/video/j8hJp3FaF-E/w-d-xo.html

    Long time subscriber here, Dave has never ceased to amaze me with the things he dusts off from his collection. What I think makes his channel so interesting isn't the objects themselves so much as the wealth of easily understood knowledge he imparts along with the video. I'd also like to take a moment to thank you Dave, for your military service on this Veteran's Day. Semper Fidelis.

    What kind of motor is in this? I bought one from Ebay the other day

      @@NightFlyyer what size should I be looking for? Something fast

    • @NightFlyyer
      @NightFlyyer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@waynepryce34 Well the manual and box do not tell the size. I believe it is a 180 or slightly bigger. It is about 1 1/8 wide by 1 1/4 long. Must be DC brushed and needs a uses a rheostat, as ESCs were not invented at the time, but can be used. Prop balance for driving is key. I guess you bought it without a motor. That is too bad. Here is what it looks like. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264733654727.

    The last good run it had it hit a rock about an inch high, doing about 30mph and it just launched the poor thing! pretty well bent up on landing. That was about 25 years ago!

    really cool, Dave. Especially that this RC motorcycle's got a chaindrive, just like the real ones!
    I once had an RC motorcycle too, but a modern one, it drove quite well, it had a steering system to shift the cg, but no tilting, it was more like "real" steering, but the front wheel moved sidewards while being turned into the direction you want to go. The bad thing about this bike was, that the tx had a crappy range so you had to run after it, that was quite exhausting haha :D

    Why did I have to see this vid? Now you're going to 'make' me put my Eleck Rider back into running condition too! Couple things: I hated the stock steering system. At speed it was too stable and wouldn't turn; slow it down and the steering was too sensitive and the crash bars saw lots of service.
