The standing broad jump was a separate event, last held in the Olympics in 1912. The running long jump we know today has been held in every Olympics.

Bring back the standing jump! That’s an entirely separate skill test and very worthy of being an Olympic event alongside long jump.

I think the guy on top was also Greek. Kostas Tsiklitiras he won the gold medal in the 1912 Olympics
He died a few months later in February 1913 at the age of 25 in the first Balkan war

Imagine training for four years just to spend less than 10 seconds for your shot at the Olympics. The discipline these people have. No matter if you take home a medal or not, you've proven yourselves to be greater than most and that alone deserves respect and admiration.

I thinking standing long jump and running long jump were separate events, then they got rid of standing long jump in 1912.
The First jump is called Broad Jump & the Second one is called Long Jump
Being an athlete back then demanded a lot more from a human being. Truly commendable. Athletes push themselves to the extreme. Now the equipment, aftercare, medicine has all become so advanced, imaging doing what people do today with not even half the support of tech that we do today.❤

The one above, I believe, is a different sport called "Standing Broad Jump". When I was in school in late 80's and 90's, our school had both the events in annual sports.

No. That's two different types of long jump. The 1st is the standing long jump, which is still a thing as far as i know. At least it was when i was in hs. The 2nd one is a running long jump. Two separate competitions.

These are two separate events. One is the standing broad jump the other is just called a broad jump.
Miltos is a parkour based Olympic athlete. On the contrary, Carl Lewis was also competing both 100m,200m sprints along with long jump. Now imagine if Tentoglou was also practicing 100m and 200 m sprints, What would be his highest length record? 🤔
I remember us having to attempt the long jump from an upright standing position in gym class. Wow, those athleticism tests were embarrassing to me. I was sooo bad!
