    Mr. Burleigh...your videos are a soothing happy place I visit often this last week since I discovered you. Wonderful narration, enchanting vocabulary. You might consider a side job with Audible or similar. Your mudlarking has inspired me to start on my own here in Vancouver. It won't be as exciting as yours but the hunt is most of the fun & I've already visited new places in my city I didn't previously know of. Please do continue to show us your creations, like the octo-girl. Fabulous. Appreciate you!

    Ah, the wonderful music of the rushing water, one of my favorite sounds...and your voice, another of my favorites! I miss the days of all tea pot spouts, what has happened to all of them, I wonder. Lovely bottles, just loved the small one with the stopper still in it. I just know you will find your intact cod bottle and I can't wait! We don't have those in the states. We do love our Mason jars though, the blue ones are old and hard to find. Til next time take care my friend and keep tight to those you love.

      The great Teapot spout migration of Autumn 2019, they all seemed to leave, and no-one was paying attention to where they went. Maybe they'll be back one day, who knows? As often as people seem to find tea pot lids, wouldn't it be cool if someone could figure out a way to display them on a wall? Not in a shadow box or on a shelf but hanging by hooks. I don't normally like knick knacks but I think it would look nice in a kitchen or breakfast nook.
    Sir ,your videos are just plain wonderful, so soothing, especially after I spent 5 1/2 hours in the ER with my 95 year old Mother yesterday. I knew I had your video to look forward to. Thank you.

    • @tom_burleigh
      @tom_burleigh  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a pretty cool idea, I was wondering when someone would give me an idea for them; they're so often intact and quite good looking... I think it would be fun to have most of the teapot though... cut just below the spout, or at an angle, so that it looks to be embedded in the wall. 🙂
      I'm sorry you had to spend so long in ER, I hope your mother is OK, or at least well patched up... and that the ER was a safe place to be.

    • @getin3949
      @getin3949 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tom_burleigh You made my idea even better, I hadn't thought of that but then I sometimes have a visual problem with items that don't hang straight. I cannot resist straightening a crooked picture or a rumpled rug on the floor or an uneven towel in the bathroom. Its a visual thing for me which a psychologist would probably tell me is some sort of psychosis, who knows. But your idea is still even better.
      Mom has fallen 3 times since the ER and still isn't better but we're hopeful. The ER people were gowned up head to toe, masked and shielded with plastic face shields but no one washed their hands. How can they forget a simple thing like that? I did point it out though and we need to do this to protect our love ones and ourselves.
      Stay safe Tom

    Thanks for the adventure. I do love the sound of the rushing water. Yes I think it would be nice if they could fill in the holes the diggers make.

    • @tom_burleigh
      @tom_burleigh  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yes, I find it quite sad; bottle diggers don't have permission to dig on that site; and they're the ones making it so that asbestos is getting into the stream, and killing trees by digging up the roots in search of bottles. I don't mind bottle digging as a hobby, but with or without permissions, filling in the holes afterwards is the right thing to do.

    What a happy coincidence to meet up with a fellow/lass who shared this location with you! Such an idyllic area: mossy rocks, river-worn pebbles, treasures of all types, and a sense of timelessness. Thank you for clearing away the trash. May not seem like much, but it does add up. Thank you for the journey. I hope it gave you the peace and relaxation that it gave to me. Best wishes from Florida.

      Thanks NutsAboutNature. I am lucky to live in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Your voice is definitely one of the most soothing voices that I have heard. I am fortunate in that my husband has a very similar voice and people have always commented and complimented him about it. He also has a Scottish burr which makes is even nicer. If I could bottle his voice and sell it I would be rich!

      @tom_burleigh  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do love a nice Scotish accent; my girlfriend can do one (lived there for years), and with a bit of practice I could probably do one too... I think it might be needed if I ever try to do a reading of some Robbie Burns poems. You're very lucky, perhaps you can persuade him to do some audiobook readings; it's about as close to being able to bottle a voice and sell it as possible. 🙂

    Thank you for another wonder mudlark walk. Was hoping to see a video from you today. I collect mason jars and that turn of the century one is wonderful. I have mason jars from the 1800’s and use them on a daily basis in my kitchen. I use a lot of them for storing flour, sugar, dried fruits…

      I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Any advice on how to restore the Mason Jar? I think perhaps wet sanding with very fine grit emery paper might be enough to polish it up again... a lot of work but I do like the thought of restoring it if I can... perhaps I could even make it into a video with some other bottles. 🙂

    • @bumblebeedragon6133
      @bumblebeedragon6133 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tom, I personally do not restore them. If they have a small crack I’ll stabilize it, but that’s about it. Now that being said, Brandon, Adventure Archaeology (TH-cam channel name) has a way of sanding them that makes them shine again. I have also seen SiFinds use a polyurethane spray (I don’t think that’s food safe) for making his finds glossy again.
      Just FYI, some masons of that era are quite rare and worth a bit money. Lots of helpful sites that can help you see the variations and help you ID exactly what you found. Happy Hunting 😊

      Yes, I'd very much like to go back there after lock-down. I think the stream bottom and sides were cobbled around the bits that go under roads; so there's nothing for things to catch on and create blockages... which could compromise the structures.
