This was awesome. Really clever how you "informed" viewers what's required via a "text" on your phone. To echo the comments of others here, don't sweat feeling awkward. We all have different levels of everything. What you've put together here is brilliant.
This is epic. I love how you crafted your therapy session around a real-world issue involving insecurities based on internet critics. hey man i decided to closely follow your content after seeing it on tiktok as i think it's really interesting. i wanted to just point out that your interaction with the npcs is not as bad as others/you have made it out to be, lol. im assuming english isnt your first language and its always kind of strange talking to robots. dont let it get it your head and keep up the work, this is as as far as i know the only project really integrating chatgpt in this way.
I never thought of you as awkward, just someone who may struggle with anxiety in social interactions. I struggle with this as well and the videos are very enlightening.
This will be a disruptive application scenario, thank you for sharing! I have a small suggestion. When the NPC is delayed, you could preset an action or dialogue, such as saying "Let me think" while flipping through a book, which would make it feel more realistic!
Don't mind such people, be yourself. You're doing good work, it's unique content I haven't seen before. I have always wondered how we can use AI to make very realistic NPCs so we can have awesome games
Seems like a cool experience and quite trippy as I said, it's cool, keep developing it please, you are onto something here with this, you are one of the few first pioneers (or the only one) that utilize this AI tech inside virtual reality.
You aren't awkward, dont dwell on the bad comments. You are a genius with the ai and work you do, be proud of the work you do and put up online and dont force yourself to change for random people who insult your speech and or the way you do things!
You're doing things right now that I am only able to wonder, as a writer, at doing. I know I can use ChatGPT (especially GPT-4, by a lot), as a kind of literary VR and talk to my characters, which makes me wonder about this kind of application, but seeing it happening is really wild. I've seen one other dev doing this, in UE5. He had 5-6 instances of ChatGPT guiding the NPC personalities, it was really cool. This is such a step up in world building potential.
Every since the pandemic therapists have no free appointments anymore and this could be an always available alternative if the data is anonymous. This is nice too because its like you're there and an empathetic lady is listening lol. I guess im weird too haha
I'm blown away. I really want to see how this can help people and how the differences in results can lead to a new perspective on just how therapy works for some people. With a myriad of different experiences and personality types I can see this working better on a spectrum from the most difficult of trauma's people face to the not as bad ones. I'm extremely curious about this type of thing.
Tamulur remember there are a LOT of children on TH-cam and TH-cam does NOT register downvotes on comments. What's more, inflammatory comments get more "interaction" because of all the people commenting on and arguing with those comments. This combination means most top voted comments are just getting a rise out of people, for the same reason rage-bait content does so well. Don't take it to heart, I watch a lot of this kind of content and your stuff is totally cool and normal. Don't' worry, there will always be trolls, just ignore them!
This formula of voice and a responsive avatar armed with a clear objective/role is such an exciting concept. Once we get over the uncanny valley and into lifelike avatars, which won';t be long, there'll be no turning back.
This is seriously mind-blowing, and I don't think everyone's catching on to the real impact here. Loads of therapists have a tough time making real connections with their patients, and that's often because of the limitations of the mental health institutions they're working in. These institutions can unintentionally turn therapists into distant figures, making patients feel even more isolated. It's not that therapists are naturally cold-hearted; it's just that the system they're part of kind of pushes them that way. ChatGPT got the potential to break free from that limiting institutional mindset and focus only on the patient. This could lead to some deep self-reflection for patients and might even force mental health institutions to rethink their game plan if they want to stay in the market (because like any other institution under capitalism, it seeks profit first and foremost). The end result? A way better and more liberating experience for both therapists and patients.
Are you doing all this in your second language? If so, negative commenters can suck it. If not, negative comments can suck it. Keep up the innovative work.
Can help to build a local vector-based database to expand token context window. I am able to feed 100k+ tokens of context with GPT-4. The only downside is costs, but they will go down eventually.
I don't think your awkward. What you are doing is genius and makes me think how you could put something together like this. I never even knew Chatgpt could do this. ChatGPT is invancing fast that I can't keep up with the new invancements. Your videos aren't awkward. People just say things like that because they are insecure.
This is amazing. Also, I need to try this. I'll be doing so later when I get off work for sure to see how this works out! I'll even post my results here if you want some feedback possibly!
I think maybe in about 3 to 5 years, there will be a relatively mature AI game based on ChatGPT on Steam, of course, if Steam still exists by then, haha.
You are obviously not speaking in your native language so I think there is some inherent awkwardness there, even though your English is very good. But you seem like an interesting guy and I would enjoy chatting with you. I would not say you are an awkward person from what I've seen.
Cant imagine an open world zombie apocalypse game with this technology. Future seems bright for gaming industry. Also thanks for sharing this videos with us.

Gotta say, I love your work, and the amazing things you've been doing to the industry, man. Good luck, and don't give that much importance to negative comments, these are dumb and salty people tryna get to you. Remember, brody, the more ennemies you encounter, it's a sign you're going through the right path!
Thanks! I don't think the tech is ripe for GTA & co. The delay is too long, the context window too limited etc. But one day we'll get there and it will be amazing.
Trying to have a human conversation with an ai still seems a little unnaturral to me.. it sounds like having a conversation over the phone with somebody you dont know and theres always an awkward pause before they reply, i would be HELLA awkward too haha dont worry about it :p
this is a really cool concept, and I think people who are finding ways to do it are gonna be the catalyst for a new era of gaming. That said, I don't know if I agree with telling personal info to an AI just yet -- I can't imagine how confidential it could be, and might be harmful of its somehow leaked or corrupted into giving negative or harmful advice.
What happens when 2 NPC’s talk to each other using this software? Can they ask each other questions and progress onto a new subject by themselves? Your work is incredible!!!
It feels to me part of this "awkwardness" people are talking about is something that usually happens when you are talking to an AI. We usually mimic some behaviours of the other subject in a conversation, and that's what happens in the video. Talking to an AI can lead you to talk like an AI also, as the conversation would feel unnatural and out of place if you talk back to the AI like you would talk in a regular conversation with humans. Sometimes AI can hit a natural talk-state, but that's not always the case yet.
Ok, this is amazing. This popped up on my feed and a couple of hours later I'm sitting talking to a therapist in VR! We've already had some very interesting conversations and played a few word association games as well. \edit :- Is it possible to choose a different Azure voice, I tried changing it to this in the config file - "azureVoice": "en-IE-EmilyNeural", but it didn't seem to do anything? Cheers!

Amazing job, consider optimazing latency by using a stream rather than 1 data bulk. This goes for every step in the text to speech, gpt-> text to speech. Will take some work, but it is worth it.
The recent version of the ChatGPT Therapy streams ChatGPT and separates the stream into sentences which are sent in parallel to ElevenLabs. I lose a bit of tonal continuity, but it's faster.
The delay you mentioned seems to be on the higher side. Are you running it TTS-STT locally? I do Coqui based TTS with deepspeed on average between 0.5 to 4 seconds for a really long text of 30 seconds in realtime. Awesome work!
A thought; idk if you're aware of MemoryGPT or some of these other similar ideas utilizing Pinecone's api, but that would really take these and similar applications to the next level.
I think this is great, but the implementation could be different. Maybe shortening her answers, getting her more about asking other questions Also some role play from someone who knows about psy sessions, who has been to therapy Awesome job though !! I was just giving some feedback I hope is constructive
Writing in the book is a REALLY good way to hide the delay. Once it can be real time this will be really incredible.
