You saved me a lot of trouble. I bought a new Road Glide ST and had to take the solo seat off so that my wife could take a ride on the new bike. The dealership gave me that nut and did not tell me anything else. I had an old two-up seat but had lost the seat bolt. So I headed down to Lowe's, they were about to close, got a ¼" - ½" bolt, a lock washer and some string and came back. It took me two tries but I got it on there and now everyone is happy! Thanks Lemmy!!!
Was a good tip for screwing the bolt by hand first... I do it always, now... after i broke a nuts thread forcing the bolt with a screwdriver. Thank you guys!
Ingenious 😀 I'm aways using string or dental floss for these types of jobs. Floss works well for very small holes, gaps etc where strings too thick, and it's surprisingly strong!

Pulled my seat off as I have in the past for various reasons. This time to pull battery and check it and regulator. However this time for some reason I can’t get my seat back on. Slide the Tongue in but seat won’t go up far enough to line up seat connector

Problem I have is they used velcro on the seat and fender to hold seat in place can I drill a hole in fender and use seat hardware nut? I just bought a sundowner two up seat for my 2005 fatboy and the tang on the front of the seat will not get low enough to get into the slot....should I try to bend the tang down some? Is there another way to do this? the tang is riveted so there's no adjustment there.

We do not, but you should be able to guy a tank from a similar year XL1200C and bolt it right up! That will give you the additional gas capacity you want. -Zack
Lemmy, if I am going to use my same seat hardware when I move it to another hole on the fender (going from factory 2 up, to an aftermarket single seat) can I just undo the fastening clip and let it drop out the bottom to remove it? Might seem obvious, but is that cool, or could it get lost in the bike somewhere? Thanks.
If you can get your hand up between the tire and the fender, get to it that way. If not, you could just let it drop out and hope it doesn't get stuck somewhere (it's unlikely but still possible). You could also put the bike up on a center lift to let the rear swingarm drop a bit more for more fender clearance. -DrewZilla
QUESTION! Hello, I already knew how to put seats on but I noticed mine wobbles, is that normal? I could be worrying over nothing but I had to ask somewhere. It’s not a massive like fling me off wobble. It just has a shake left, right, forward and back. My clip is under the tank and in the correct spot. My bolt is tight. I tried bending my clip up towards the seat to lock in place better under the tank. No difference. It is a pretty wide seat, just about goes over the sides of the frame. So is this normal? Thank you

I just read the HD owners manual and then tried to take my 2016 FLD seat off. The manual mentions undoing passenger strap bolts but they mention several different kinds of seats and I thought it would be as easy as Your video, but I have too much resistance to just pull off the seat like You did and Im just confused and am frustrated with the owners manual the way its written. Could be My seat will remove just like this video, but as its so new, its just me not using enough force, but I would rather ask You then be a newb and break something. I need to take the seat off to run wires to install BOOM music system.
Once you remove the bolt holding one side of the passenger strap as well as remove the rear seat bolt, you can lift the rear of the seat then slide the seat backwards to release the tongue of the seat. You probably need to open one of the side cases in order to access the passenger strap bolt. -DrewZilla

I went back to the bike and used a little more force and it came up after sliding back. The single passenger strap bolt that both ends were secured with, had so much strap that I could put the seat sideways without undoing the screw, and get to the cable I needed to attach the Boom Audio power wire. I have a Harley super glide 2007 bought used came with a double seat, it has a strap on the center which is bolted under the seat to the frame, a real pain to remove. do I need it to help hold the seat on ? I would love to leave it off, since I take the seat on & off in winter to take out the battery. So DO I NEED THE STRAP ?
+Jack Hunter If you ride with a passenger who likes to hold onto that strap, then you'd probably want to keep it on. However, it's not totally necessary, so you can definitely remove it if you prefer. Understand that in some states, it may be an inspection violation if removed though. -DrewZilla

Thank for your reply, I figured it out, pull the strap forward as far as you can, lift up the back, unhook from the front and slide the seat forward from under the strap.
People generally zip-tie the ECU to the battery, so that more seat options are available. If you have an exposed fender hole, you would use a plug. -DrewZilla

Mine is too. There is a bolt there holding it. You are supposed to slide it forward to get it to release but mine will not release. The slot it is in doesn't get large enough to release the bolt.

I have a 2006 Harley Ultra Classic and I need to get my seat off to charge the battery, but when I got to the removal of the back rest I found that it's not like the video shows. I have no idea how to get it off with out tearing it up and I really don't want to do that. Does anyone know how to remove that back rest?
I had the same bike and the rider backrest was mounted onto two parrallel bars that are spring tensioned to keep it in place. insert your hand into the crevice and squeeze the two bars together and gently pull up, should come right out. Many times for me one side would still be "locked in" just work at it.

That's perfectly typical. The slot style mount in the front does allow a small bit of play, so a little shimmy and shake is no problem at all.

Need some help guys i got a 03 electra glide well i ended up picking up a seat off a 10 road glide my seat slips into the frame this seat off tbe rd glide has a tounge that slips into the seat is there a kit to swap them or am i going to have to take the one off my seat and maybe rivit it to the one off the rd glide ....other then that the seat fits perfect n gives me everything im lookin for ..but thats my only prob i already ordered the lower dash extention piece

If you cannot remove the seat, you need to unbolt the strap. -DrewZilla
Thank for your reply, I figured it out, pull the strap forward as far as you can, lift up the back, unhook from the front and slide the seat forward from under the strap.

What do i do when the ecu is under the seat and i have a hole in my fender for the holder
People generally zip-tie the ECU to the battery, so that more seat options are available. If you have an exposed fender hole, you would use a plug. -DrewZilla
Does anyone know if there are seats out there that have storage/extra space underneath them. My problem is after I installed LED glow lights on my bike, the wiring barley fit under the seat. Now I just bought an alarm system but there's no space for it or it's wiring. PLEASE HELP!!!

Mine is too. There is a bolt there holding it. You are supposed to slide it forward to get it to release but mine will not release. The slot it is in doesn't get large enough to release the bolt.

I have a 2006 Harley Ultra Classic and I need to get my seat off to charge the battery, but when I got to the removal of the back rest I found that it's not like the video shows. I have no idea how to get it off with out tearing it up and I really don't want to do that. Does anyone know how to remove that back rest?
I had the same bike and the rider backrest was mounted onto two parrallel bars that are spring tensioned to keep it in place. insert your hand into the crevice and squeeze the two bars together and gently pull up, should come right out. Many times for me one side would still be "locked in" just work at it.
