He scored more than anyone, stole more than anyone, solo season or career. He played 24 years, won the World Series with two different teams, had 3000 hits, hit .279 over that long career, won a golden glove, 2nd to Bonds in all-time walks(without steroid homers threat), leader in all-time lead off homers, proving that he is the greatest lead off batter of all-time. I think he deserves to be in the GOAT conversation.
Yes, people become great base stealers from playing different sports growing up.. not baseball year round. Rickey’s football background is a big reason for the SB’s
Yankee fan here. I LOVED watching Rickey - his swing was so unique, his athleticism just off the charts. He had some moodiness and times not really giving 100% and taking crazy long time back from injuries. But when he was on, focused, and firing he electrified a team. '80's Yankees never got to WS (after 1981) but they had some really good teams. Needed better pitching.
If I was to quote Ricky Henderson, he would say “Ricky is the best to play the game.” And we would all agree. Unique talent, unique person. My favorite sports athlete of all time.
It's arguable who the "greatest" player of all time but Rickey is probably the most "electric" I've ever seen!!!!! Thanks Rickey for all the memories!!
Most exciting player since the mick. He seriously changed the game. His running was incredible. Most lead off homers, most runs scored, 3000+hits, most stolen bases. One of the goats!!! Why the Yankees traded him is 🤪 crazy
I happen to know Rickey and he is the greatest baseball player ever , not only that he treats his fans like gold ! Excelsior to all fans of the man of steal! The one and only Rickey Henderson , his stolen base record unbeatable
I grew up near Oakland in the Bash Bros era. I was 15 when we beat the Giants in the World Series (on the football field at practice during the 89 quake and all the goal posts and hoops were shaking back and forth - super crazy). We had weekend season tickets, first row, second deck, directly behind home plate. Killer vantage point and super fun. Growing up watching Rickey and arguably the most talent stacked team of all time was a true blessing. So grateful to my dad for making that part of my youth. A dream come true when it comes down to it. Rickey is my favorite player ever and should be in the running for best ever.
Great highlight package! The only team that didn't make the cut was the Angels. A's, Yanks, Blue Jays, Mets, Padres, Red Sox, Dodgers and Mariners all there.
I worked security for the Padres when he got his 3000th hit, all time walks, alltime runs leader. He was just magical and a nice guy to boot. Never a big head and swollen up on himself. Just loved to play the game.
I believe when he was a Yankee the manager gave Rickey a verbal judo session for Rickey not going after fly balls fast enough and making “basket” catches instead of a regular catch
This man was so exciting to watch on the baseball field because he could do everything from hitting, stealing bases and making difficult catches that made the fans happy and he was a winner overall. And on a side note I have a you tube channel type in Russell Mills May 22, 2017 to find me.

He didn't have a strong arm. But, he had one hell of a glove. Could draw a walk, hit for power. And always had the green light to take base. Greatest lead off hitter ever
He was so fast if you blinked your eyes he had stole second base on you fastest Ever and excellent hitter to played the game the way its supposed to be played Rickey Henderson one of a kind
@@ryanmcclellan7347 he isnt... on the D side he was only good due to his range, his arm strength and throw accuracy was very average. It was just all speed. Even his hitting power came from incredible bat speed and wrist quickness
He was disruptive. Not necessarily as good as Barry Bonds. But if you walked Barry, you usually got away with it. Walk Rickey, your troubles are just beginning.

And if you take intentional walks out of the equation, Henderson would still be the all time leader in walks.
He’s my GOAT
@@SmoothCriminal12 Exactly, the last thing you want to do is walk Rickey with the bases clear. He'll be on third in 5 pitches. Sometimes 2.
Ricky Henderson........G O A T !!!
I think he's my favorite baseball player of all-time. How could it be anyone else?
What a machine! Top 10 best players of all-time! Even into his 40s! Played at a high level!
Probably in the top 10 most loved baseball players of all time. Even if he wasn't on your team, you still love watching him play
One of the most underrated athletes of all time. Probably could have been a great running back. Guy is made of iron.

How is he underrated ? He is considered the greatest leadoff hitter of all time and is the best base stealer of all time.
The way he rounds first base after hitting a home run is straight up pimp status.

Hats off to the Hometown hero. Can't compare him to no other player because there was never a player like him. Thanks for memories.

Not even arguably. He is without a doubt the greatest all-around baseball player of all time.
As great as he was, I still think he was underrated. If anyone should have been a unanimous HOF selection, it was Henderson.
All time leader in runs scored and stolen bases. Agreed 100%
Exactly, I'd like to meet the guys who didn't vote for him, probably former pitchers

Crazy that everyone in the park knew he was gonna steal but they just couldn't stop him
Ricky was unbelievable!!!!!
Unfortunetly many of those home runs were solo ones as he most often led off but he should have been a third bat!!!
Rock Raines was my all time favourite but Ricky Henderson had that extra home run pop to his bat that Rock never had.
Henderson ! Was just a better player! I liked Raines! But levels brah! Dude has all kinds of records!
6:15 that must be one of, if not the absolute closest home runs of all time. both in terms of vertical distance and proximity to the foul line.
Dude was too smooth with it
Ricky averaged 56 steals a season - over 25 years!!!
In 2006, he coached with the Mets with the option to play if he must - incredible durability.

love watching pitchers sweat when Rickey got on
