Ped or not you can't repeat 750+hrs, 500 stolen bases, 8 gold gloves, 7 time MVP, 14 time all star, 2500+ walks, 65 hits from 3000, and he has nearly as many records as he has home runs. My point is you can't drug your way to great patience, great swing, hand-eye coordination, and all-around skill. Next to "The Kid" he is the G.O.A.T. MY OPINION. You are free to disagree.
Gold gloves are a joke. He was a below average defense player and he had a noodle arm. That's why he had to play LF. If he played in the AL he would have been a permanent DH like Edgar Martinez or David Ortiz.

Steroids helps you in a lot of ways compared to those who don't take steroids. Look up steroids and it's benefits instead of trying to justify Bonds career.
I will defend Barry Bonds until the end of time. People should realise that PEDs wont help his eye-bat coordination. He still has to hit the ball. He perfected his game for the perfect swing. He practiced every other day to consistently aim for the sweet spot on the bat, as an extension for his arm. You simply cannot get it by taken enhancements. This is all due to extensive practice. His dedication, his drive (pun intended) and his IQ is second to none. Never forget the memories he gave me, even today his legacy is only being questioned by people jealous of his achievements. He should be inducted into the HOF, first ballot, number 1 inductee, or they should dissolve the Hall completely imo.

It’s not a joke he still needed to hit the ball but he still took them and without them he would be an average player on offense because he wouldn’t have the extra power to hit it out he wouldn’t be anything without them and this is coming from a diehard giants fan. What everybody forgets is that for several years, Bonds watched inferior players equal or surpass him because of steroids. it came to a point when he said, "If I was better than those guys when none of us were using, I'll be better than them all when we all are using." ...And he was.
What about all the great players from the same time who didn't need steroids like Ripken and Ken Griffey jr. Its better to be clean then a cheater the sad part is if he didn't use he would have a chance to make it to the Hall in the veterans committee.

Barry Bonds was a superstar with and without PED's. That guy was more relaxed in a batters box, facing pitchers throwing up to 100mph, than I am in bed on a Sunday morning. One of the top 3 swings I've ever seen. Griffey Jr and Strawberry are the other 2 in my opinion.
It's a shame that Bonds started using steroids after his '98 season and that Strawberry fell apart after his '91 season. Bonds gets to 600 homers legitimately and Strawberry slugs 500.
I saw #662 in 2004 when Bonds hit out of the park a 100mph pitch from Cy Young winner Eric Gagne. Dodgers manager Jim Tracy said. "I don't know if any other player in baseball with that sequence of pitches could have had an at-bat like that." And Gagne said. "That was my best time in baseball there. He's the best ever. There will never be anyone like Barry Bonds."

Barry Bonds is one of the top 3 players to ever play Major League Baseball. Bonds was a 1st ballot Hall of Famer by 1999. He already had 9 years of dominance offensively and defensively. From 1990-1999, he had 8 All All Stars , 3 MVP awards, should've had 4; who voted for Terry Pendleton in 1991? smh. 7 silver slugger awards, 5 30/30 seasons, 400 homeruns, 1188 RBis, 2010 hits, and 460 stolen bases. Remember, there was a MLB strike in 1994. He could've had way more career stats by 1999 if it wasn't for the strike. He could've retired in 1999 or 2000 and got in on the 1st ballot.

Pete Rose and Bonds are the most deserving of the HOF but if we let in Bonds, do we let in McGwire too? What about pitchers like Clemens? I'd say Bonds' talent is legit, McGwire's is suspect because he might have been using for years in Oakland with Canseco sticking a needle in his butt, and Clemens definitely benefited from PED's. Oh and then there's the fan favorite A-Rod. Do we let him in as well? 🤷
I think the steroid scandal late in his career made people forget how great a player Bonds was in his prime when he was natural. Apart from winning 3 MVPs('90,'92,'93) he was robbed of MVPs in 1991 and '96, That's 5 MVPs in 6 yrs while playing natural in the peak of the steroid era.
Not only Is Bonds the only member of the 500/ 500 club, He is also the only player in the 400/400 club. 400 HR and 400 SB "BEFORE "the steroids. Not to mention he set the record for most single season and all time walks in Major league baseball. Think about that for a second? That's fucking insane.

Seymour Gray He played some great LF during his time in Pittsburgh. Haters always point to his throw to home in the 92 NLCS as evidence that he couldn't throw, but his arm was certainly above average until he moved to SF.

He also almost did it 2002 Barry had more than 100 SOs once in his career and that was his rookie debut year Players these days can only wish of hitting less than 150 SOs in a year. I love all of the dumb steroid comments, as if all of the other greats of the game didn't look for an edge at some point. This guy posted adjusted OPS totals over 200 in consecutive seasons in the early 90's, and had an adjusted OPS+ around 180 from 1990 through 1998 - and that's before he took any drugs! Easily the best hitter of his generation, but it goes beyond that - he's one of the best hitters who ever lived, and that's before accounting for the sheer absurdity of his production from 1999-2004 and beyond. Most good players took steroids just to hope to be on his natural level as a hitter. When he took them - he was so good that, at times, it took an act of God to get him out.

I would never make a sweeping generalization like you did, and suggest all of the greatest hitters were on PED's. Hank Aaron, Reggie Jackson, Mantle, Clemente, Gherig, they never touched drugs. More recent power hitters have definitely used: McGuire, Sosa, Bonds, Griffey, Canseco, Frank Thomas, Bichette, A-Rod, Fielder, and so on. But not all greats have "looked for an edge" as you put it. You need to stfu.

I have also read accounts from witnesses saying that Babe Ruth used cocaine prior to games. I'm also sure that plenty of greats have used marijuana, so I would suggest that you do not make sweeping generalizations about how the greats never touched drugs. And yes, the greats were given the edge at times too. The Braves moved in the fences when Aaron approached the record. Ruth never faced a single Latino or black pitcher, which may have prevented him from reaching 700 home runs. Aaron and Ruth alike also did not face Cuban pitchers.
Yes he was the most electrifying hitter ever yet, there were other things about his play and abilities that left me in awe. From 1994 to 2007 I watched basically 70% of all the games. I recall one time back in the mid 90's that he got caught in between bases. The 2nd base player ran him almost fully back to 1st before he threw it to the player covering 1st. Bonds stood as the ball flew over him. When the player covering 1st caught it and began to run full speed to tag him Bonds turned to second and began to run. Mind you, he was standing and the 1st baseman was running towards him at full speed. Bonds began to run and accelerated so fast that the 1st baseman couldnt reach him even with his outstretched arm. By the time that he threw to second Bonds made it safe. The ground that he covered in the outfield was RIDICULOUS and he made stealing bases look easy. Aside of his strange attitude or what seemed like an introvert personality the guy dominated for 20 yrs.

The same man who got #660 also got #661 the very next night. When Barry hit #660, the man who got the ball gave it to Barry because it was special to him, with Mays being his godfather. But steroids do help you have that extra power needed to hit all those home runs. I agree, he had probably the greatest eye for a batter ever. But the steroids DEFINITELY helped him get a ton more HRs. You don't go from being built like a bean pole for 2/3 of your(at the time) adult life and then all of a sudden are built like a Mack Truck. Had he never used steroids, he probably still would have ended up with between 550-650 home runs and be recognized as the greatest to ever play....given all his accolades he earned prior to the "juicing" years. You cannot tell me that steroids helped him to hit all those home runs. I played college and the pro level I cannot even fathom how you could see the ball that good. It was as if they were throwing Beach balls up to him. And on some occasions they only threw him one strike in four 5 at bats and would go 4/5 with two bombs and one of the wall !!! Amazing!!! Yes, steroid helped him hit home runs. No one will argue with you that Bonds saw the ball well and had great hand eye coordination to begin with. But you don't make the HOF for hand eye coordination. You make it with HRs, Hits, Batting Ave, etc. By taking steroids, Bonds increased his flyballs by 20 to 40 ft perhaps even more. Also, no doubt Bonds would've been a 1st ballot HOF even without roids, but when you cheat, you take the risk of being punished.

Bonds was so feared that he was once walked with bases loaded so pitchers could avoid pitching to him, he led the league in single season walks 12 times in his career which is absolutely absurd, in fact, Bonds has more walks himself than the entire Tampa Bay Rays franchise does in their entire existence. With the steroids debate....if Bud Selig, the man who presided over that era of steroids baseball is in the HOF, then there is no way you can deny the greatest player of that era. The first HR on this video when Bonds was on Pittsburgh against Andy Benes is proof this man could hit and hit hard with OR WITHOUT steroids. Undoubtedly, the best player of my time and in my opinion, the greatest ever.
Bonds had great bat speed, with superb hand eye coordination. What makes him so exceptional is that he hit left handers so well, even when they tried to jam him inside.

The sad part about Bonds is he didn’t need the Roids to be considered a GOAT and legend of the game. He wouldn’t have gotten near the home run record but would’ve finished with probably in the 600s. Add to that his all time great patience at the play, great base running and plus defense and you’ve got one of the best to ever do it. He didn’t need any performance enhancers to be maybe the best all around players ever but fair or not he left with maybe the most tarnished legacy in baseball history. I wonder if he’d lay off if he’d had a crystal balk considering what he got. Are the records worth what came with them?

Watching this took me right to being a kid watching these HR chases. There was no better power hitter of the baseball in the history of the game than Barry Bonds! People will always hate on him for the steroids which is truly a shame since he was playing against juiced up pitchers as well. It was a wild time in baseball, the most fun the game had ever been. Bonds' on-base% alone more than makes up for any perceived lack of hitting avg (which is complete horseshit as he maintained one of the most consistently high batting avg line in history).

Although he did in fact take steroids, you have to stop and think; how come all the others that have also taken steroids were never able to play at the same level Bonds did ? He had to have incredible talent alongside those steroids he took.
For me, despite the steriod allegations, by far most impressive thing about Bonds was his plate discipline. Top 2 in history. He would see 1 good pitch to hit every night and not miss it. Only guy i would put ahead of bonds when it comes to plate discipline, Tony Gwynn.

If anything, people like Willie Mays and Barry Bonds are freaks, and I'm talking about how Bonds never played a season(not counting his rookie year when he was called up) below 140 games, usually 150-160, through 1998. Not counting the time after, since he got bigger and lost his range deliberately, it was still ridiculous. Willie Mays did the same thing. Bonds, pre-1999 Bonds, was definitely the better hitter. He led in OPS several times. Griffey never did. Griffey was a good hitter for sure, but he also played in the Kingdome for his best statistical years. His numbers took a drop after that. Bonds, on the other hand, played in Three Rivers Stadium and Candlestick Park, both of which were pitcher's parks.

People should realise that PEDs wont help his eye-bat coordination. He still has to hit the ball. He perfected his game for the perfect swing. He practiced every other day to consistently aim for the sweet spot on the bat, as an extension for his arm. You simply cannot get it by taken enhancements. This is all due to extensive practice.
His dedication, his drive (pun intended) and his IQ is second to none. Never forget the memories he gave me, even today his legacy is only being questioned by people jealous of his achievements.
He should be inducted into the HOF, first ballot, number 1 inductee, or they should dissolve the Hall completely imo.

Remember, there was a MLB strike in 1994. He could've had way more career stats by 1999 if it wasn't for the strike. He could've retired in 1999 or 2000 and got in on the 1st ballot.

I think the steroid scandal late in his career made people forget how great a player Bonds was in his prime when he was natural. Apart from winning 3 MVPs('90,'92,'93) he was robbed of MVPs in 1991 and '96, That's 5 MVPs in 6 yrs while playing natural in the peak of the steroid era.

I love all of the dumb steroid comments, as if all of the other greats of the game didn't look for an edge at some point. This guy posted adjusted OPS totals over 200 in consecutive seasons in the early 90's, and had an adjusted OPS+ around 180 from 1990 through 1998 - and that's before he took any drugs! Easily the best hitter of his generation, but it goes beyond that - he's one of the best hitters who ever lived, and that's before accounting for the sheer absurdity of his production from 1999-2004 and beyond. Most good players took steroids just to hope to be on his natural level as a hitter. When he took them - he was so good that, at times, it took an act of God to get him out.

And yes, the greats were given the edge at times too. The Braves moved in the fences when Aaron approached the record. Ruth never faced a single Latino or black pitcher, which may have prevented him from reaching 700 home runs. Aaron and Ruth alike also did not face Cuban pitchers.

Yes he was the most electrifying hitter ever yet, there were other things about his play and abilities that left me in awe. From 1994 to 2007 I watched basically 70% of all the games. I recall one time back in the mid 90's that he got caught in between bases. The 2nd base player ran him almost fully back to 1st before he threw it to the player covering 1st. Bonds stood as the ball flew over him. When the player covering 1st caught it and began to run full speed to tag him Bonds turned to second and began to run. Mind you, he was standing and the 1st baseman was running towards him at full speed. Bonds began to run and accelerated so fast that the 1st baseman couldnt reach him even with his outstretched arm. By the time that he threw to second Bonds made it safe. The ground that he covered in the outfield was RIDICULOUS and he made stealing bases look easy. Aside of his strange attitude or what seemed like an introvert personality the guy dominated for 20 yrs.

Barry Bonds had god gifted talent. yeah he took steriods, so what? Steriods don't automatically get you home runs. Barry Bonds had the greatest eye in MLB history, he could knock any pitch out of the park because his eyes not just his strength. Best Player to ever walk on a baseball diamond.
That's what most people don't get, three to four extra years it would have taken him, he was still hitting 25+ hr per year. Plus he got blackballed at the end of his career. Teams like the Marlins or nationals. Or the blue jays and mariners could have used him for tickets sales

But steroids do help you have that extra power needed to hit all those home runs. I agree, he had probably the greatest eye for a batter ever. But the steroids DEFINITELY helped him get a ton more HRs. You don't go from being built like a bean pole for 2/3 of your(at the time) adult life and then all of a sudden are built like a Mack Truck.
Had he never used steroids, he probably still would have ended up with between 550-650 home runs and be recognized as the greatest to ever play....given all his accolades he earned prior to the "juicing" years. He ruined his own legacy by using.

Michael Bosque what a great video!! I will argue until the test of time that Barry was and will always the single best hitting athlete I have ever seen. You cannot tell me that steroids helped him to hit all those home runs. I played college and the pro level I cannot even fathom how you could see the ball that good. It was as if they were throwing Beach balls up to him. And on some occasions they only threw him one strike in four 5 at bats and would go 4/5 with two bombs and one of the wall !!! Amazing!!! Yes, steroid helped him hit home runs. No one will argue with you that Bonds saw the ball well and had great hand eye coordination to begin with. But you don't make the HOF for hand eye coordination. You make it with HRs, Hits, Batting Ave, etc. By taking steroids, Bonds increased his flyballs by 20 to 40 ft perhaps even more. Also, no doubt Bonds would've been a 1st ballot HOF even without roids, but when you cheat, you take the risk of being punished.
How in the world does steroids help hand eye coordination. If they put body builders or wrestlers or any athlete that is on steroids, he/ she will hit homeruns? Come on man. This dude was hitting bombs as soon as he started, and I'm not even a bonds fan.

Growing up near SF I’ve been to many Giant games. I’ll tell you what, those people diving in to McCovey cove to get a Bonds home run ball are brave. That water is so cold your junk shrinks to the size of a peanut.
Bonds was so feared that he was once walked with bases loaded so pitchers could avoid pitching to him, he led the league in single season walks 12 times in his career which is absolutely absurd, in fact, Bonds has more walks himself than the entire Tampa Bay Rays franchise does in their entire existence. I believe Barry was the most feared player in MLB history and for good reason.
Barry Bonds is simply the greatest player I have ever seen. He was a HOFer as a Pirate before he ever signed with San Francisco. With the steroids debate....if Bud Selig, the man who presided over that era of steroids baseball is in the HOF, then there is no way you can deny the greatest player of that era. And lets not mistake, Barry Bonds WAS the greatest player of that era.

The first HR on this video when Bonds was on Pittsburgh against Andy Benes is proof this man could hit and hit hard with OR WITHOUT steroids. Undoubtedly, the best player of my time and in my opinion, the greatest ever.

The sad part about Bonds is he didn’t need the Roids to be considered a GOAT and legend of the game. He wouldn’t have gotten near the home run record but would’ve finished with probably in the 600s. Add to that his all time great patience at the play, great base running and plus defense and you’ve got one of the best to ever do it. He didn’t need any performance enhancers to be maybe the best all around players ever but fair or not he left with maybe the most tarnished legacy in baseball history. I wonder if he’d lay off if he’d had a crystal balk considering what he got. Are the records worth what came with them?

Watching this took me right to being a kid watching these HR chases. There was no better power hitter of the baseball in the history of the game than Barry Bonds! People will always hate on him for the steroids which is truly a shame since he was playing against juiced up pitchers as well. It was a wild time in baseball, the most fun the game had ever been. For me, despite the steriod allegations, by far most impressive thing about Bonds was his plate discipline. Top 2 in history. He would see 1 good pitch to hit every night and not miss it. Only guy i would put ahead of bonds when it comes to plate discipline, Tony Gwynn.

myles7771 Actually, it's quite rare for outfielders to continue to perform without injuries. Griffey was the norm. If anything, people like Willie Mays and Barry Bonds are freaks, and I'm talking about how Bonds never played a season(not counting his rookie year when he was called up) below 140 games, usually 150-160, through 1998. Not counting the time after, since he got bigger and lost his range deliberately, it was still ridiculous. Willie Mays did the same thing.
Bonds, pre-1999 Bonds, was definitely the better hitter. He led in OPS several times. Griffey never did. Griffey was a good hitter for sure, but he also played in the Kingdome for his best statistical years. His numbers took a drop after that. Bonds, on the other hand, played in Three Rivers Stadium and Candlestick Park, both of which were pitcher's parks.

I had season tickets with my dad when I was real little at candlestick then to the bonds record run days. I can’t believe I was able to grow up watching bonds. We also had season tickets my whole life with the warriors. I saw the we believe days all the way to the record season. Bay Area born and raised.
