Understand on the first listen it's so tough to pick up on everything... but with XTC, the lyrics are almost always VITAL to how brilliant the song is. This song took a while to catch on with me... now it's one of my favorites. Andy Partridge is an EXCEPTIONAL lyricist. Well-deserving a second listen. Cheers!
This track is undoubtedly long for what it is, but that reinforces its hypnotic aspect, so in the end it serves its purpose. The hi-hat was probably deliberately under-mixed because remember that in the very early 80s it was popular in post-punk and new wave, especially in the UK, to favour martial drums and toms over cymbals, especially since Peter Gabriel had released his third album in 1980 in which he expressly asked that cymbals be banned during recording sessions. This attitude was adopted at the time by bands such as Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Psychedelic Furs, Public Image Ltd, Killing Joke.... Just as you'd be hard-pressed to find guitar or keyboard solos with XTC - not really their style! 😉
Thanks for checking in! Sorry I've been off the reactions circuit for a bit - long story - and I might be getting back to them in the near future. I love suggestions and would absolutely do that one, except... I've been listening to them for several years now and really like them. So, I can't give a genuine reaction for them anymore. But feel free to send more suggestions! I love discovering more new and new-to-me music!
@BleedingEdgeProg ok how about do Retrovertigo by Mr.Bunle totally different styke then the other two tracks you reacted to (do the music video versin if you do)
This song is too short! It was already severely edited. Much like some people want to hear the 17+ minute version of the Beatles' "Dig It", I want to hear the full version of this song! How much worse can it be?

Travels In Nihilon
My favorite band. Me Train Running Low On Soul Coal, is the perfect XTC song for you.
Includes a noisy guitar sólo.
Humilitive by meshuggah next, please
Is this the shirt you mean?
Hey new to your page, must say the Mr.Bungle reactions is what got me here, can I make a request? (Sleep Token - ascensionism)
