- In this video I review the 2024 Harley Davidson Road King Special. This is one of the staples of the Harley Davidson line up and a bike that still has that iconic Harley look and style.

My 1998 RK Classic continues to ride strong and sweet. I do love my HD motorcycle!
More like "boring gray" or "cheapo grey." Watch out, colour reflects your personality !
One of these blacked out is a dream. Definitely has a place in the future collection.
22 f350 lariat tremor 7.3, 23 challenger scat pack 392 widebody, and the 24 road king special 114 all blacked out. Cant get any better than that
I always enjoy and learn a good deal of useful information from watching Throttle Blip’s videos. Excellent and well put narration.
Still miss the classic RK. yes I still love the heel shifter.
I love the look of that bike, the Colour, the extensive Gloss Black finish . . Its superb
TB, you’re the first dude I’ve ever heard that does what I’d do out of the box with my toe/heel control. Remove the heel shifter and move the toe out. Additionally I always add a floorboard spacers to move my boards out. Works awesome and that’s how I roll. If HD ever completely delete the RK, they'll hang themselves. Not all of us want all that tech. Some of us just want a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Long live the RK!
Hard to justify $25K for this bike when there's an updated SG and RG for just $1K more.
That’s what I was thinking, they really need to lower the price on this a few thousand. For like 1k more as you say you can have much more bike. I do own a RKS and love it, great bike if you are just looking for simplicity on a touring chassis. But yeah for sure need to knock that price down or put more features on it.
I would love to see the RK get a CVO or some kind of special treatment. It’s such a jack-of-all-trades and classic bike. Everything you need and nothing you don’t. HD however seems right now to only want to sink money and effort into the ST models, Low Riders, and Street/Road Glides. They are forgetting there are folks out there yet who want a more classic look and those bikes should get “special” treatment now and then as well.
Completely agree. A RK will be my next purchase. I’m holding out hoping for a special 125th year edition.
amen!! Somebody said it! Thank you!!
So bummed they took away the RKS! Arguably one of the best Models of all time. I just don’t understand how they can turn their back on that classic looking model. Personally, I’m really disappointed in the general direction that HD is going with these Low Rider ST models etc…..Fine, your demographic is changing, but “dance with the one who brung you.” There’s a lot of over 40 people who really bought into Harley for their old school classic looking bikes! Now it seems if we want that we have to buy one of those special release numbered models for more money. Ridiculous. I won’t even start on the the change in base color to billiard gray! Not only is it the most bland boring color ever, but now you’re going to upcharge us for what has been the standard stock color for decades?C’mon HD! Do better for your customers!
@@BadBlue32 I have a vivid black 22 RK Special and I do love the white onyx pearl this year! Neither of the other two road king special colors excite me.
Absolutely beautiful bike!!, The Amazing Harley Davidson Road King Special no doubt at all my favorite Motorcycle!!, Thanks for The information!!!
Love the Specials tank emblem. My old FXR has that Bar and Shield emblem. Love your videos.
Freak'n $25k? OUCH. If most were honest, you'd be paying more for the sound of the exhaust over the super chief! I still end up thinking an older Roadking with 20 or 30k on it, at 1/3 the price is almost a no brainer. New Harley's are just so expensive! My buddy found a 2009 for 6k loaded with tons of after market stuff. 53k miles, but it runs like clock work and looks amazing.
“That bike was Primared, ready for paint and just didnt make it there😅”
Soo agree! They botched the Standard! I dont like the mags either.
I think Billiard Grey looks GOOD on the Road King though!
I want the standard Road King to be offered again.
I saw this bike in white onyx peril at a Missouri dealership and and it was absolutely gorgeous. Like Blair said, you have to see it in person to fully appreciate it. I'm a toe and heel shifter guy and dealerships will add it, for a price :)
If you’re lucky you might get a dealer that will throw that on for you or give you one to put on, I’ve heard of a few doing it, but yeah I’m a heel-toe shift guy so yeah probably be ready to hand over the extra $60
Man I watch all of your videos regardless what it's about 💪
Road Kind Standard was a much better bang-for-the-buck.
Have not been a fan of the color options for the Road King but I keep checking. Had a nice green a few years ago but I just bought a new bike at the time.
I purchased a '24 RKS, in white onyx pearl and it came with a heel shifter installed. The handlebars suck, but I'm replacing them soon. Like the blacked trim.
On the video the Pearl white and the billiard grey look almost the same to me. Maybe it’s just my tv. I’m really looking forward to the rest of the 2024’s.
The White Onyx Pearl has to be seen. Pics do it no justice.
Really good review. Don't know if I like the gray color?
Nice bike, love my ‘21 RKS
Do you know what year they started including the day maker headlight on the RKS?
My wife has a road king - one of the best all around bikes.
Looks like primer , White Onyx Pearl looks great on the RKS
I agree the low profile engine guards are better looking but with the standard guards, you can add either the soft lowers or the hard lower fairings for more wind/weather protection and comfort at highway speeds. I'd like to see an updated version of the Road King standard, maybe with the Fat Boy headlight nacelle a bit more modern but still classic fenders and saddlebag styling, also replacing the analog instrument gauge with a Sportster S digital style gauge, also keep the chrome and a bit more modern windshield.
At least they should give folks the option to do those things if they want them done!
Almost bought this exact bike at that dealership when I was looking into the street glide. Glad I went with the street glide though.
for what? more plastic?
@@mbrinkman1973 Yeah I figured the more plastic the better
@@boomreel2324 enjoy
@@mbrinkman1973 thanks I have and will
Still can’t believe that they are not putting a factory plug USB USBC whatever in the front for phones and GPS
Funny thing is they have those on the softails which generally aren’t bikes you go on huge road trips with, but my Road King Special that does do long trips and the other touring models, nope don’t need it lol!
@@mickeygaines007 I know I saw that, I think you get the charging port on a street bob but not on the RK I know you can do aftermarket install but we shouldn’t have too much
I've looked at the RKS every year for the last few years, just waiting for them to add a stock USB port .. and I have a feeling it may never happen. Such a weird omission for a "grand touring" bike that costs so much.
@@willst101 and especially when it comes standard on a lot of softails which aren’t used nearly as much for long trips!
For my '17 RK I got a USB connector from Harley that runs off the battery tender for $30. Just run a cable under the tank console and bobs your uncle. Those softail USB ports need a short cable anyway so I just get a longer one I can tuck away when not used.😊
Thanks for the quick look at the RKS. I have a few questions since this was a short video.
You said the keys are not needed to start the bike. But don't you have to turn the key switch on the tank first? And that switch can be locked with the key? And can the RDRS (you called it traction control) be shut off with the button on the left control?
One more question...doesn't the RDRS show the front and rear tire pressure if you hit the trigger switch again? Thanks again, love those KINGS!
I’ve got a ‘22 RKS and love. that. frickin. bike.
Fob in proximity is all that is needed to ride, unless the forks or ignition is locked. Then the barrel key is required to unlock those first.
Yes, traction control can be shut off, but I don’t think that disables the entire suite of RDRS features.
Toggling the trigger switch on the left will provide tire pressures.
Thanks for the info!
I have a '17 RK and love it too!
So, if I understand correctly, you can lock/unlock the key switch but STILL need to turn the dash key switch on and have the key fob near before the bike will turn over and start. My '17 has no fob, so this just adds another level of security (or potential problems 😂).
Maybe I am crazy, but I like that billiard gray color.
Harley has got to be working on the next version of this bike
Did you meant “primer grey”?
Which billiard is the grey one?
I think the Grey leaves a open canvas for stripes or graphics
I have this one from last year. Put on a decent handlebar instead of the horrible OE. Put SE Street Canons and Saddlemen SDC Pro seat. And Hyperpro suspension front and rear (13” instead of the 12” broomsticks) Its very cheap at usa guys!!! Here in holland does the vivid black $37.000 and has always RDRS (without is no choice here). The “beeb” alarm is gone for 3 yrs and you have to buy seperate😢.
Is this a stage 1
The RK turns 30 this year. How bout an anniversary version? I would personally love to see them bring back the standard with the 114.
Not sure about the Ketchup red color. The grey looks good, if not an odd name for it.
@@Your-Name_ that kinda make sense. I don't remember if it was Blair on this channel or someone else, that pointed out how odd it was, considering there is no grey on any billiard balls!
@@spacebear49billiard as on the felt on the table.
Nice looking bike! Great Badging. Thanks for the review.
Does this bike have abs brakes
Yes ABS comes standard on these.
Was the design department high on Bud Light when they decided on grey and Redrock red?
Hi Blair, dont know if it was me, but I made a comment about the tank badging, great to see it back.
Now about those ' However' T-shirts......... 😎
Everybody hates free Billiard grey. If the Billiard Grey were a $500 option everyone would love it.
Wait…black is an upcharge? YGTBFKM…
I still don't believe it...
Come on hd give us the updates on this roadking. Inverted front 117 engine etc.
It does work on the black like this one here. That grey color doesn’t work on the Softail standard or the Low Rider or the ST. I like the white onyx pearl on every bike I see it on. I like the red rock on the Lowrider ST.
Tank badge start. Whoop whoop.
Mmm white. Yeah
Primer with clear over it...yuck.
I like the heel and toe shifter. You don't get your left toe on your boot all marked up when you use it.
They need to bring back the road king standard as well as all the other standards for a more affordable motorcycle.
Then save a ton of $ and buy a gently used '23 if nothing has changed
Billiard Grey? You mean Boring Grey.
I really think the road king is overdue for a makeover.
Not a fan of the Red Rock color at all. It's even worse in person. I think that's about the worst color HD has ever sprayed a bike (my opinion, no offense).
Road king in a chrome engine trim what be best for my
taste
So HD totally neglects the road king and prices it $1000 less than a road glide which had numerous upgrades, not to mention the 117.
I guess they'll give out a "I'm a dumbass" patch to everyone who purchases a 2024 Road King.
Looks good for me
Diehard HD owner but damn those colors would keep me from even thinking about buying 2024. WHO in the hell thinks this was a good idea. Better watch it as Indian is gettin really close Milwaukee…just sayin’
100% agree. These new colors are awful!!!
Seems like 24 is the year to skip the roadking.
The paint all looks like primer esp the billiard grey . Colours are shit for 2024 models
Would love to get a road king, too bad it’s overpriced as hell
Considering the massive updates and price reductions to the rest of the touring family, the Road King is a terrible value. I ride a '23 RKS . Doesn't even have a factory USB.
I see they still haven’t changed those awful handlebars
I really don’t like the blacked out look. But thank you for the video
If you still like the bike, believe the regular road king comes with chrome.
Do not like the gray. It's just way to plain of a color. HD needs to offer a dark green color.
What? No windshield? No passing lamps? Black out only? Ugly color. Harley finally got around to putting LED headlight on the road king but blinkers are not? Almost 2000.00 dollars more than my 18 FLHR? HD hasn't got anything I want.
Wouldn’t be a problem if they actually priced their shit accurately
My 2004 Road King is prettier.
$25,000 Harley screwed it up, and these are plan cheap ugly colors .
I will stay with my 2020 RKS 131 engine
Hi, Cock Blocking Biker here. I dont like the Roadking unless its a Vicla build. I hat Grey.
