That's awesome. My grandfather lived there long before my time (he was a gold minor up there), but my mom took us there when we were young and showed us some of the towns she lived in back in the 1930's when he worked the mines in the summertime.
Funny you say that, because I made it with the 4th grade curriculum in mind! I'll post some links here to other good stuff for you! Better yet - I'll make an "Educational Playlist"....
Sounds like a blast! Depends on the days...I try to make it up there every summer for a few days, so if the window works, it would be fun :) When are you planning?
BTW - do you know about the paranormal activity at the National Hotel nearby? Start this video at 3:30-4:35, where I show the interiors...Ghost Hunters did an episode on it not long after I shot this! th-cam.com/video/JXRRl--5-WY/w-d-xo.html
@@JfCLA I will work around your time and when you are available. No. I don't know about that place. Looks like its about to fall off. I am going to try my best to get inside one of those historical buildings.
Really! What years was he a miner and was that actually his livelihood or was it a hobby. I must have imagined someone did a short comparing the types of mining! I was delirious from my second dose of the covid vaccine 😅
I do mention it in the intro to this video....Yes, he was a full-timer. My mother showed us old photos and told us stories of how their family would travel during the summers to live with him while he worked in the mines. My mom and her sister would go during the summer and live in towns like North Columbia & Mokelumne Hill. He had a gig at the Good Hope Mine at one point, and Wyatt Earp would come in on payday to play cards with the miners! Kids love these stories, and the fact that I actually knew a real gold miner kind of puts it in a time perspective for them. I'm getting my vaccination tomorrow through GUSD!
Lol - not me! However, I did shoot a panning instructional that didn't make it in...I think there's a clip of my son and I doing some in one of the Gold Country vids...My grandfather was actually a working gold miner in the gold country back during the depression and my mother taught me how to pan when I was a kid...
My grandparents lived in Nevada City and I remember my grandfather taking me to Malakoff.

Was a favorite place to go swimming in the warm turquoise blue waters back in the early 60s… best 4th of July ever but was also very hot weather
Yep. I first went in the summer of '75 :) My grandfather was a gold miner up in that area in the 1930's
Excellent content and pace. I can’t wait to show my students tomorrow! What other videos have you made?

Pretty cool video do you think there's still gold down there they might have missed?
Undoubtedly! Especially in the rivers. I see prospectors in the rivers up there all the time.
Gratulation! Very important project.
Lucky Greetings Lobo
Thanks for the kind words, I've loved this place since I was 10. My mom used to take us up here to camp back in the mid '70's!
Nice job on this John. You should share this with the Diggins State Park, well done!
Thank you. I actually did that. :)
Well done - very impressive video my friend.
Hey, thanks, man! Very kind of you
Hey John are you available during next summer 2023? I want to do a paranormal/documentary of this and would like your help.

Was it my imagination or did you also have a video describing the methods of cradles long toms and panning? I may have imagined this! 😅
