Me again! I made one of these today and wow! I can't remember the last time I was this happy with a finished project. Once all the math was figured out, the actual sewing went fairly quickly. Snipping about 1/4" into the tube bottom made it a lot easier to pin the circle into place, and a walking foot made that final edge seam a breeze. With a finished size of 6" diameter and 6" tall after folding down the cuff (8" if unfolded), it easily holds five pairs of shears (even when they're in their cozies). I will definitely be making more of these; in fact, fabric for the next one has already been selected 🙂

This is the most clear explanation and actual demonstration on how to do this. Especially flipping the direction of the interior for the sake of the cuff if it's directional. Thank you so much!

Sewing circle bottoms is extremely hard for me and i have watched a million TH-cam tutorials but none compare to this!! Thank you so much for being very detailed. My circle bottoms no longer look like weird puckered squares!

What a lovely clear, concise explanation right from the start. No unnecessary repetition of information which is my bug bear of so many TH-cam presenters. This is the first of your tutorials that I’ve seen but won’t be the last!!

Fabulous video! I really appreciate that you showed us how to do the math so we can make it any size we want (& that also precludes 50,000 inquires asking, “ What size should I cut my pieces if I want to make it a x size . . .”) I never learned pi in school, so whenever I made something round like this in the past, I just cheated and used a flexible measuring tape to measure the circumference of the circle & added my seam allowance to that.
I also really appreciate the detailed explanations and video; well done.
I also appreciated your calm, even voice, that wasn’t shouting at us like we’re deaf or stupid or something, lol, like some have a tendency to do. I’m sure they don’t realize, but it wears on my nerves when they do that.
Lastly, I can see myself making a bunch of these. I might add a drawstring to one for my cross-stitch stuff, so when I’m done I can cinch it up. This would be great to practice free motion quilting on, before sewing it up. Thanks again. I really enjoyed this! 😊👍🏻🌸

    • @RosiesArtStudio
      @RosiesArtStudio  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Thank you for taking the time to write a thorough comment. I appreciate everything you said and am glad you like the video. You can also use a string to measure the circumference for the circle. It really isn’t cheating. Some people are not comfortable at all with the math and measuring with string would be easy and accurate. Have fun making the basket!

I'm an experienced seamstress but decided to watch this all the way through because I want to make some decorative outside covers for various sized tin cans. Thanks for the "Eighths" chart. I also picked up a few other tips. Since they will be covering a rigid object, I won't use the fusible fleece but I do think the fusible interfacing will be a good addition to keep the fabric looking crisp. I also like the little pyramid pouches idea. Will check that out someday.

@@RosiesArtStudio Yay! I ended up making mine starting with a 14 inch circle diameter, (for a 6qt) and quilted the outer and lining pieces together to avoid it being too loose inside. And zigzagged the inner seams, attached a small handle on top, done! Wanted the crinkly look after quilting, so it did shrink a bit after washing, but still fit nicely. Thanks again!

Thank you so much for showing how to calculate the circle dimensions!!! I have watched at least half a dozen of these round basket videos for the purpose of making Easter baskets. None of them were the size I was after, and every single one had something you had to print and trace for the bottom. Geometry was 30+ years ago for me, so your video was extremely helpful. Thank you!

Thank you for this video and this chart, Rosie! I am making round grow bags for my garden, so to get the bottom circle I needed, I took an old flower pot, and traced it on my landscape fabric! Then, used your chart to figure out all the other dimensions I needed based on my circle. I cut the circle out first, then folded it in half, and measured along that straight line! Again, thank you so much!

Sewing in a circle really is not hard if you use my instructions. For a cup like you are describing, if it is made of paper, I would take it apart and use the sides of the cup for a pattern. You would just have to add seam allowances to it. For the bottom circle, just measure the diameter and add the seam allowance. Hope that makes sense.

Great video Rosie! What is that noise that your machine is making? I think I have heard it a few times in other videos? Is it common with your kind of machine? Thank you.

I am not sure what noise you are talking about, but it does vibrate sometimes because it is not sitting right on the table.

@@gingerflorey9169 Do you mean a Wonder Clip? I've heard it in a few of Rosie's videos, and was like who there is a problem with her machine. It seemed as though it happens when she speed up? I am considering get a Juki machine not sure which one, most likely an industrial.

OMG 😳 Is this a sewing tutorial or “Math” tutorial?? I would not want to deal with pie measurements. To much math info to even start the project. I’m disappointed 😞

Most people appreciate that she helped with the maths. If she hadn't she would probably have received hundreds of comments & /or questions asking for help with it. It was a good idea! 💡🙏👍😂
