Toadally Awesome has a funny backstory so to speak, the japanese name is Mochi Kaeru (kaeru meaning toad) a play on mochikaeru, meaning to take home and mochi, a traditional sweet often eaten in Japan, the 2 frogs on the artwork are stacked on top of each other as a reference to Kagami Mochi, a mochi based dish, that's basically 2 pieces of mochi stacked on top of each other with an orange on top. The "to take home" aspect of the original name is reference in its effect that allows it steal the opponent's cards. Konami of America saw that multi-layered pun that was impossible to translate, and imediattely gave up on it
Toadally Awesome being an Xyz also plays into the pun, as Xyz's defining mechanic is stacking cards underneath themselves to summon them. Requiring 2 level 2 aqua monsters, on summon it's a 3 card stack and probably has 2 frogs/ toads underneath it, much like it's art has the 2 frogs and an orange.

You didn't go into enough detail on Broken Bamboo Sword; it isn't actually commonly used, but it is a staple of modern Exodia decks. Having it on the field means you can use Golden Bamboo Sword, which is just Pot of Greed except you MUST have a bamboo sword on the field. And since they're both spells, you pair that with a library that draws more cards as you use more spells. And if anyone tells you that Yu-Gi-Oh! is the worst card game, they haven't played enough card games. It may be confusing as hell, but at least you get all of the text to work with... unlike other games.
that is not how a modern exodia deck works, if u want to play them modernly at all you play the isolde combo, like jeff did. Bamboo sword is actually never played, i dont understand why he said this fake fact. id guess that the most used equip is either durendal or a mikanko, no?
@@silastopole due to Isolde being banned, and his combo being unusable and inconsistent, you would in fact use the broken bamboo sword + golden bamboo sword combo, usually also with cursed bamboo sword, with royal magical library and etc. in the Exodia combo. It is widely played in many decks that consist of drawing a ton of cards, Exodia included. That said, the original comment could've been formulated better and the person could've been more respectful.
my god kyle is the the most obnoxious kind of pokemon fan, i really enjoy watching him be made deeply upset by anything that isnt pokemon for not being like pokemon
Yeah this is exactly how I expected to turn out. If I had to compare Pokemon, Digimon, and Yu-Gi-Oh! in how they are created then it would be like this: Pokemon: Has a strict aesthetic to they have to follow with designs. Digimon: Less restrictions but still has to follow a Digimon style. Don't ask me what that style that is, all I can say is if you can look at fanmade Digimon and could easily seeing it being a real Digimon then they did it right. Yu-Gi-Oh!: Nothing is safe as anything could be a Yu-Gi-Oh! card, I remember there even being a man eating high heeled shoe monster card. Also as a Yu-Gi-Oh! player who enjoys the game, I do not recommend it to new people as the game as gotten more complicated to the point it feels like you need to take a course in it just to understand how to even use some of these decks. Though I could just be too smoothed brain.
I find that the Digimon aesthetic is in the same boat as the Sonic aesthetic. It is very solid and well-defined, but I couldn't begin to explain it. I just know it when I see it.
yugioh isn't that complicated (atleast not the basic rules). Also the best part about yugoh is that it's so different. They made fricking sushi warships as an archetype. You wouldn't see goofy stuff like this in any other cardgame.
@NightBladeSpearichu Goat format is basically og yugioh up to the set The Lost Millennium, with the banlist from Summer of 2005 and following Master Rules 1. Edison Format is from April 24-25, 2010 and covers the synchro era.
The fact that Labrynth's name was incorrectly spelled correctly in the question would IMO be grounds for an appeal if anyone had voted for it to be fake. I can believe that a creature's name is "Labrynth" more easily than it being "Labyrinth" literally.
As someone who plays yugioh religiously, you had me questioning everything during round 5 as I definitely knew Number 69 was Heraldry Crest, but I didn't know of D-Boyz, so I talked myself into believing that it was a fake Destiny Hero card and into believing that Number 69 was definitely a Dark World card
In Yugioh we do almost anything for a draw 2, we're willing to get rid of the top 10 cards of the deck to draw 2, using a nothing equip spell is real good in comparison.
Broken Bamboo Sword is definitely not one of the most used Equip Spells in the game, it is used for a very specific Draw Engine, basically just in Exodia decks. Now that Isolde is banned, we also have to go back to Magic Library for Exodia, which includes the Bamboo Sword engine.
Given even one of the best ones on paper (Grid Rod) doesn't see use, yes, the combo centric broken bamboo sword is one of the most used It'll be interesting to see if snatch steal takes that place
@@Sillimant_ Snatch Steal will only see use in decks that can search Equip Spells easily, so basically just Mikanko, wacky versions of Infernoble, now that Isolde is gone and some random pile deck maybe by searching and recycling it with Braver Dragon.
but the x in zexal *is* silent, in the japanese version that said, zeal feels really weird to say, much more so when you realize they pronounce it more like "ze-aaahl", so everyone *should* stick with zexal
12:57~13:13 The Duelist Kingdom arc of the anime was made before the OCG was properly created, which is why it not only didn't have the OCG's rules as said rules didn't even exist IRL at the time, but even allowed for plays that are entirely made up but work anyway because they're explained in a convincing way.
People Running About is actually part of a "combo" with Oppressed People and United Resistance. There's a trap card called Huge Revolution that, if you have all 3 of those monsters on the field, it destroys all cards your opponent controls and sends all cards in their hand to the graveyard.
It's not that the X is supposed to be silent, it's that in the original Japanese it isn't part of the name at all and it is simply called "zeal" while in the English it was changed to be called "zexal" In the original the opening for the anime spells out the anime name Z E A L and the "X" is not part of that and is instead just a cross added as an aesthetic addition to the logo(which makes sense as it isn't text nor is it even the same size or general shape of the other letters). When localized into English for some reason they opted to make that into an actual x and incorporate it into the name, and thus "zexal" was born. Not a silent X, but rather was never meant to be an X and English localizers are stupid.
Would be funny to take this and then make another question next time with fake trap in it. I can guarantee everyone would be all "you already did that, it's false!" Haha
16:52 whatever desciptor text is that isn't it. That is all card effects. On top of that though, since it is a pendulum monster, which box of effects you can use is based on whether it is in a monster zone or a spell/trap zone. Pendulums were a mistake.
"I'm so upset that People Running About is a monster card" Yeah, my thoughts exactly... I figured for sure it was a spell or trap Edit: Thank you again lad for getting angry for my amusement! So, the Digimon ones I have a fair shake at, because I love Digimon and kinda sorta understand how they name them. And here's the thing, I also love Yugioh, but there is just no way in hell to pick a common thread on the card's naming conventions, they are absolutely insane. Like some of them just feel like a portion of conversation.
The idea behind that card is that it’s part of a series with 2 more monsters: Oppressed People (card text: “They are oppressed, but believe they will have their freedom someday.”) United Resistance (card text: “The people that gather to swear to fight their oppressors. A revolution is coming.”) And if you have all three on the field, there’s a card you can activate called “Huge Revolution” that destroys all cards on the opponent’s field and sends their entire hand to the GY.
Different archetypes just have different naming conventions. They are consistent within their own groups. The DDD are all name after famous leaders of history, Skull Servants are all puns, Numbers and Pendulums are stupid, etc.
@@Sillimant_ true but normal, effect, fusion, synchro, xyz, links mechanically work similarly since they're all just monsters. If you just got back into or are new, pendulums would confuse you. Links came right after and are easier to learn

If you ever do another video like this it should be about archetypes and they have to guess which card isn't a part of the archetype with the other three all being apart of the same archetype... I know that they'll cry when they see my boy the jam.
'there's no good images of Shiny Black "C" on the internet' HUH?? They definitely is. Just, go to the wiki?? It has a whole gallery of images of the card from around the world. Idk where YOU were looking but I found it easy.
For context, I'm a classic Yu-Gi-Oh fan who knows very little GX and nothing past Zexal. 1) While I could believe any of them, I'm most suspicious of Grabsnatcher. / Got it, actually. 2) I actually know the last two (or at least some of the numbered dragons), and can believe the first, so I've gotta guess the obvious red herring Doofus. / Huh, thought the blue dragon one was #2. Either way, I can't believe Doofus was so wrong people thought it had to be right. 3) Define "real". The first I know and fourth I think they made it after it became a meme, but the middles I could see as real or decoy. I'll say Fake Card while awaiting it to be real and learning what it does. / I am satisfied, yet disappointed. 4) Each of these is so wrong they have to be right for very different reasons. For all of those reasons, and none of them, I'm picking Cupid Dunk because it has the weakest ridiculous factor. / Oh, that was my second instinct. 5) I don't know all of the Number monsters, but I'll guess Confronting the "C" as the one they didn't go for. / Just the trick I wasn't ready for. Bonus) Tour Guide from the Underworld sounds like the likeliest joke, but I could still see it being real. / Huh, guess I was just thinking of whatshername Black Rose Dragon girl because of Roserade forever linking plants and mask parties in my mind. Well, I would've tied for first.
I knew half of these were real and could eliminate them off the bat and I still mostly guessed wrong 10/10 A yo-kai watch video next maybe, guess the dub name EDIT: for context the dub name is almost always a portmanteauof like 3 different words or really strange pun(or even something really strange like changing the classic yo-kai Kappa's name into Faux Kappa like there was something fake about him) EDIT OVER: (or better yet the one of the four random nicknames each yo-kai has) or guess the real recolor with a bunch of fakes because the words is infamous for recolors
Let's actually try and make these fake cards real (spoilers): 1) Grabsnatcher, a Swiss army knife/Venus flytrap with low stats, Earth and Plant. "Flip Effect: If attacked by an opposing monster when face down, cancel the attack and take control of that monster on top of this card until the end of your next turn. After, return that monster to its original position and send this card to the Graveyard." 2) Doofus, a really shaggy-haired Saint Bernard dog, probably low or zero ATK and high DEF, Earth and Beast. "Your opponent takes pity on Doofus. The first attack targeting this monster each turn is negated." 3) Fake Card, Trap. "If this card is or will be destroyed by an opponent's card effect while face down, activate it: replace it with any Spell/Trap Card in your hand or deck and activate that card. Shuffle your deck if you searched it." 4) Takebacksies!, some sort of trickster imp with low stats, Dark and maybe Fiend or Fairy. "Flip Effect: If your opponent gains control of any card on your field through any card effect, Flip Summon this monster: Return your card to your possession and destroy the card whose effect changed its owner." 5) Number 69: Attention-Grabbing Maestro of the Dark World, which sounds Gimmick Puppet related, but for a second #69, maybe it's a Negative Rank monster like Earthbound Immortals' Negative Levels, certainly Dark and Spellcaster, either high or low stats depending on the potency of its effect. "Once per turn, you can remove one Xyz material: Move one of your opponent's monsters to your field permanently (it goes to their Graveyard if destroyed). Once this monster has no Xyz material remaining, it moves to your opponent's field permanently (it goes to your Graveyard if destroyed)." Really have a lot of control-switching going on with these cards, don't we? Bonus) Ribbon Lady Masquerade, a masked womanlike form in a dress made from scarlet ribbons, possibly Dark, not sure if Fiend/Spellcaster/Fairy or what. "If this monster changes ATK/DEF position, you can choose to return it to your hand and Special Summon any other monster in your hand." I'm thinking because of the mask, it could be seen as a disguise for something else and needed a trigger for the swap.

Subtle MtG shade lol
@MitchFromFBS MtG is in a similar camp; it's messy but still functional. Other TCGs, however...
@@MitchFromFBSfrankly the game deserves it. The one thing I miss the most is PSCT
that is not how a modern exodia deck works, if u want to play them modernly at all you play the isolde combo, like jeff did.
I'll be honest...I love playing the card game but EVEN players who LOVE the TCG really do think this game is rediculous and stupid
Love seeing you branch out into other things. This is great
my god kyle is the the most obnoxious kind of pokemon fan, i really enjoy watching him be made deeply upset by anything that isnt pokemon for not being like pokemon
Yeah this is exactly how I expected to turn out. If I had to compare Pokemon, Digimon, and Yu-Gi-Oh! in how they are created then it would be like this:
Pokemon: Has a strict aesthetic to they have to follow with designs.
I would suggest maybe easing into it by playing something like Edison or Goat format with a friend
@@Eldritchpanda Never heard of those.
@NightBladeSpearichu Goat format is basically og yugioh up to the set The Lost Millennium, with the banlist from Summer of 2005 and following Master Rules 1.
Edison Format is from April 24-25, 2010 and covers the synchro era.
This channel is gonna turn into all the nostalgia shows into quizzes of suffering
The fact that Labrynth's name was incorrectly spelled correctly in the question would IMO be grounds for an appeal if anyone had voted for it to be fake. I can believe that a creature's name is "Labrynth" more easily than it being "Labyrinth" literally.
Well, there is Labrynth Labyrinth
25:05 i haven't cried this much in a while, i was just expecting the typical induendos and now have too many duck facts 😭
Follow for more forbidden duck facts eventually maybe someday
“Fighting Foodons” just unlocked a bunch of memories
The only one that nearly got me was fake card because there is a card called fake trap
There's also Fake Explosion and Fake HERO
As someone who plays yugioh religiously, you had me questioning everything during round 5 as I definitely knew Number 69 was Heraldry Crest, but I didn't know of D-Boyz, so I talked myself into believing that it was a fake Destiny Hero card and into believing that Number 69 was definitely a Dark World card
This was funny as hell next yugioh video should just be cards with the longest name just to mess with them
I laughed so damn hard at that Limp Bizkit song joke, that was too good
In Yugioh we do almost anything for a draw 2, we're willing to get rid of the top 10 cards of the deck to draw 2, using a nothing equip spell is real good in comparison.
One is +1 (not -9)
The other is +0 unless you draw the other golden bamboo swords
love this!! pls do more yu-gi-oh quizes
The motorcycle Yu-Gi-Oh surprisingly does have the best story
notably broken bamboo sword was part of an infinite loop before they changed rules on loops lol
Given even one of the best ones on paper (Grid Rod) doesn't see use, yes, the combo centric broken bamboo sword is one of the most used
It'll be interesting to see if snatch steal takes that place
@@Sillimant_ Snatch Steal will only see use in decks that can search Equip Spells easily, so basically just Mikanko, wacky versions of Infernoble, now that Isolde is gone and some random pile deck maybe by searching and recycling it with Braver Dragon.
Attack the moon! Was also popular for being a reference to the "final shooting" scene in the first gundam series.
I remember Lovely Labyrinth getting sexy fanart like an *hour* after her card was first revealed. It was great.
Glorious times indeed
I will just put this here, A Spectrobes quiz with you guys would probably be my favorite video on the internet
Please do more yugioh quizzes, this was so bloody hilarious. Im crying.
Do more please but do it with card text, and make them lose their shit with linear equasion cannon.
Omg this would be amazing
Nothing like turning a pokemon channel into anything thats almost pokemon
This episode killed me XD we need more of these XD
but the x in zexal *is* silent, in the japanese version
that said, zeal feels really weird to say, much more so when you realize they pronounce it more like "ze-aaahl", so everyone *should* stick with zexal
I feel bad for only just finding this, this is the funniest thing I've ever seen
11:38 For the love of god please do a Spectrobes episode. I need more folks talking about that series
Yu-Gi-Oh Zeal was the Japanese title, but the English dub pronounced it ZeXal because of the gigantic X in the middle of the fucking logo.
I was sad for it not being more digimon content...but this was great as a former yugioh player!
Mitch here: We usually keep Digimon on a 2 week rotation, and this was the off-week. More Digimon coming next Monday!
"Fighting Foodons"
Finally! My people!
People Running About is actually part of a "combo" with Oppressed People and United Resistance. There's a trap card called Huge Revolution that, if you have all 3 of those monsters on the field, it destroys all cards your opponent controls and sends all cards in their hand to the graveyard.
Super excited for this video! Thanks for uploading! Might comment more later!
It's not that the X is supposed to be silent, it's that in the original Japanese it isn't part of the name at all and it is simply called "zeal" while in the English it was changed to be called "zexal"
In the original the opening for the anime spells out the anime name Z E A L and the "X" is not part of that and is instead just a cross added as an aesthetic addition to the logo(which makes sense as it isn't text nor is it even the same size or general shape of the other letters). When localized into English for some reason they opted to make that into an actual x and incorporate it into the name, and thus "zexal" was born.
Not a silent X, but rather was never meant to be an X and English localizers are stupid.
Omg fake card instead of fake trap is insidious! I 100% went 'of course that's real' on first glance
Would you believe me if I told you I forgot Fake Trap existed when I made this quiz
@@MitchFromFBS that's even funnier that you accidentally made a trick question omg!
Makes me happy to get a surprise appearance from my girl Lovely Labrynth. Love those cards.
As one of YGO player watching this is hilarious. XD
Kyle being in pain will never stop being funny 😂😂😂
5:46 if memory serves, it's actually pronouced "zay-all". like say all, but with a z instead of an s
I reject your reality
That bonus round had my mind running loops because I thought for sure you spelled Labrynth wrong just to troll lol
"I'm so upset that People Running About is a monster card"
Yeah, my thoughts exactly... I figured for sure it was a spell or trap
Edit: Thank you again lad for getting angry for my amusement!
The idea behind that card is that it’s part of a series with 2 more monsters:
Oppressed People (card text: “They are oppressed, but believe they will have their freedom someday.”)
United Resistance (card text: “The people that gather to swear to fight their oppressors. A revolution is coming.”)
And if you have all three on the field, there’s a card you can activate called “Huge Revolution” that destroys all cards on the opponent’s field and sends their entire hand to the GY.
Different archetypes just have different naming conventions. They are consistent within their own groups. The DDD are all name after famous leaders of history, Skull Servants are all puns, Numbers and Pendulums are stupid, etc.
I'm 100% down for a Spectrobes quiz
Also Pendulums are really easy to explain
It's easy to explain when the person you talk to wants to know how pends work. lol
Yeah no. Pendulums have some rulings that are absolutely stupid that only applies to it
@@HazeEmryyou mean a card type in a card game has rules applied to the card type?
That sounds like any tcg ever!
@@Sillimant_ true but normal, effect, fusion, synchro, xyz, links mechanically work similarly since they're all just monsters. If you just got back into or are new, pendulums would confuse you. Links came right after and are easier to learn
Pends are very confusing.
"Yu-Gi-Oh! is the [worst] card game ever created," says someone who has clearly never played Marvel/DC Overpower.
HOLY SHIT I thought I was the only person who knew of fighting foodons!! That makes me happy lol.
Here some franchise:
B-Daman, meta bots, megaman nt warrior, duel masters, bakugan, beyblade, Zatch bell, monster rancher, and fighting foodons
The only low point is when they say yugioh id a bad card game when theres infinitely worse (mtg, lorcana, pokemon)
Lorcana for sure, MTG eh, definitely not Pokemon.
7:20
Compete whit it? Yu-gi-oh is and always has been bigger as a card game. Not an overall bigger franchise but worldwide Yu-Gi-Oh is HUUGE
THE POSSIBILITIES HERE ARE UNMEASURABLE
Man I would be DOWN to see Nico host a Spectrobes quiz.
"Tyler the Great Warrior" always feels like a fun card to use for something like this since the name and then appearance would likely throw people off until you explain the reason the card exists
Legit forgot Ape Magician was a thing ._.
If you ever do another video like this it should be about archetypes and they have to guess which card isn't a part of the archetype with the other three all being apart of the same archetype...
I know that they'll cry when they see my boy the jam.
Reminder : Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon is a Prophecy monster
'there's no good images of Shiny Black "C" on the internet' HUH?? They definitely is. Just, go to the wiki?? It has a whole gallery of images of the card from around the world. Idk where YOU were looking but I found it easy.
15:11 did u seriously say out all 4 D’s? Wat? I’ve never heard some1 say the words that “D/D”, “D/D/D”, AND “D/D/D/D” r the initials for...
I did inD'd say all 4 D's
Fun Fact Toadally awesome is actually mochi
The Dragonmaid deck is actually somewhat based off the anime/manga mentioned. The creator of it even approved of the deck.
Fake card is close to Fake Trap, a very real card
"Nothing past zexal" you know know how absurd your guide is with sangan
Oh God. I'm just Imaging the digimon format with YuGiOh cards, but using all real card names.
21:05 see? Makes as much sense to me as any Yu-Gi-Oh card makes sense to you
I knew half of these were real and could eliminate them off the bat and I still mostly guessed wrong
10/10
A yo-kai watch video next maybe, guess the dub name EDIT: for context the dub name is almost always a portmanteauof like 3 different words or really strange pun(or even something really strange like changing the classic yo-kai Kappa's name into Faux Kappa like there was something fake about him) EDIT OVER: (or better yet the one of the four random nicknames each yo-kai has) or guess the real recolor with a bunch of fakes because the words is infamous for recolors
To be fair to Lovely Labyrinth of the Silver Castle, Labyrinth Wall is a real card and it's just a massive labyrinth.
Let's actually try and make these fake cards real (spoilers):
1) Grabsnatcher, a Swiss army knife/Venus flytrap with low stats, Earth and Plant. "Flip Effect: If attacked by an opposing monster when face down, cancel the attack and take control of that monster on top of this card until the end of your next turn. After, return that monster to its original position and send this card to the Graveyard."
2) Doofus, a really shaggy-haired Saint Bernard dog, probably low or zero ATK and high DEF, Earth and Beast. "Your opponent takes pity on Doofus. The first attack targeting this monster each turn is negated."
3) Fake Card, Trap. "If this card is or will be destroyed by an opponent's card effect while face down, activate it: replace it with any Spell/Trap Card in your hand or deck and activate that card. Shuffle your deck if you searched it."
4) Takebacksies!, some sort of trickster imp with low stats, Dark and maybe Fiend or Fairy. "Flip Effect: If your opponent gains control of any card on your field through any card effect, Flip Summon this monster: Return your card to your possession and destroy the card whose effect changed its owner."
5) Number 69: Attention-Grabbing Maestro of the Dark World, which sounds Gimmick Puppet related, but for a second #69, maybe it's a Negative Rank monster like Earthbound Immortals' Negative Levels, certainly Dark and Spellcaster, either high or low stats depending on the potency of its effect.
Fake Card is a very dangerous card.
Ah yes my favorite trio oppressed people, people running about, and and level 3 thunder monster
Speaking of 1990s niche Anime. Someone should make a Medabots one. Even if none of you watched it. Idk name medaparts or something.
this was glorious
3:00 1 what toadly awesome is so fake of a name, 2 grabsnatcher sounds so real
