I'm not disappointed at all, this is one that I have been waiting for. Finally I can see a race that can prove something. A race to show which Union Pacific engine is the real boss of Union Pacific's steam family.
I have seen all 3 engines in action. #844 and 4014 in Ogden Utah in may 2019. And 3985 about 10 years ago between big springs Nebraska and North Platte. I have also seen 844 pulling car's by itself across northern Utah.
Bad Drivers Of The NorCal Area yeah, but steam engines are just cool and interesting, especially considering the fact that lots of people haven’t seen any in real life, altho he is begging for likes and that not cool.
I just noticed at the beginning, he had plenty of water but apparently Challenger burned it all up to quick, Maybe it's because of all that freight he was pulling and had to work extra hard.
Smoke deflectors are not for aerodynamics, they're designed to keep smoke from driver's views. Plus, in america, its called cabooses, and your water was running low, so that's why you were slowing down.
The Union Pacific Big Boy was primarily made for pulling vast amounts of cargo in a shorter amount of time without the need of a double-heading. The time needed for getting another engine to pull a Challenger up a hill disrupted schedules. And you know what Union Pacific did? They reached out for a 4-8-8-4 to be made. Thus, the Big Boi was born. Big Boys are obviously superior, with their claimed speed of 80 mph, even with a heavy load trailing behind.
American trains don't use brake vans anymore. Each car has a brake. What you're calling a brake van is actually a caboose. It's where the workers that weren't in the locomotive would live.
The reason wh6 you were slowing down is because you were running out of water, once you've ran out of water it is only a matter of time before the boiler explodes!
To be honest, the Big Boys are basically superiorized Challengers because the Big Boys had a top speed of 80mph but the Challengers had a speed of 70mph and had less pulling power than the larger Big Boys.
you let the water level in the boiler get to low so your steam stopped increasing and when you started the boiler pressure dropped to low and as the water depleated it couldnt regain steam the big boy does the same thing (i learned how to drive it on train sim if you set it at 30% reg. and 45% throttle it would regain water and increase steam) and plus the big boy has like insane acceleration physics so even with 100 freight cars it would still accelerate like it was running by itself
Technically challenger is big boys older and bigger brother because he was around first and the big boy was an edited and upgraded version of the challenger
13:52 LaZeR JET: Why are you doing this you useless piece of JUNK!? Me: WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY!? XD Also, I have to admit that even though I'm American, I did slightly chuckle when you said something like that out of anger. By the way, do you still play Garry's Mod?
This is a very old comment of mine from 7 years ago, back when I was not as mature as I am now. I actually completely forgot about this comment until getting this reply, as I don't usually post many these days. But yeah, that was just younger me being weird. Apologies if it seemed like I still act that way. I promise I don't.
My name is Ben Wilmarth. When I start playing Trains Simulator the way you do on your computer, I will do a strength contest between Big Boy 4015 and Challenger 3981. Each will pull 100 cars and I’ll drive the Challenger faster than you can. I could just do with some training from you, but I don’t want Mom, Dad or anyone else to know.
I literally wanna say that since you're racing American steam engines, it's probably a good idea to use American terms. The thing at the end is a caboose, the cars the Challenger is pulling are called box cars. What the Big Boy is pulling is called a closed hopper. We don't use the term "covered wagons" in the United States. And an interesting note, a caboose is actually different from a brake van. One thing brake vans don't have an observation deck. It's why people are telling you to call it a caboose, not a brake van. Because there is a difference between the two. But now, the US use FREDs.
Depends on where your racing if it's with a heavy freight train or up any sort of grade big boy will win as it was made to pull heavy 5 mile coal trains up and down mountains
Arnt the smoke deflectors used for other purposes? I do not think they are for areodynamic properties cause if so the mallard and duchess would have them yes?
Also the challenger and big boy don't need smoke deflectors as they have little shield that cover the dual smokestacks for smoke reflectors that retract to the side of the stacks
did u know big boy and 844 runs on oil now and there are some steam locomotives in usa that runs oil and how to know its runs on oil is look at the tender u see there no coal pit so its a oil burning steam locomotive
I don't like it when people say challenger is big boy's little brother. Challenger is older than the Big Boy. Yes it's smaller, but Big Boy is still younger.
hears "each car weights a couple of tons"
me: no, around 30 tons empty, around 130 full
I'm not disappointed at all, this is one that I have been waiting for. Finally I can see a race that can prove something. A race to show which Union Pacific engine is the real boss of Union Pacific's steam family.
Big Boy actually pulled 100 cars routinely up the rockies back in the days when it was still relevant
so did the challenger
but it pulled 143
Big boys (and big girls) were designed to pull 150 cars
Union Pacific Challenger Maximum speed 60 mph (97 km/h)
Union Pacific Big Boy Maximum speed 80 mph (130 km/h)
Challengers did 70*
Big Boys still did 80 though
And 844 did 120
Fun fact: big boy can pull a fully loaded train that is 5.5 miles long.
I have seen all 3 engines in action. #844 and 4014 in Ogden Utah in may 2019. And 3985 about 10 years ago between big springs Nebraska and North Platte. I have also seen 844 pulling car's by itself across northern Utah.
LUCKY!
Bro its 3981
The "break van" in America is called a caboose
Whoever loves steam locomotives of any kind except electric and diesel locos like this comment 🚂
Shin Gojira 2017 likes this
Royce Reid :( No, I just want to know how many people like STEAM locomotives :/
SpookySteamIsKing productions 😐 you gave in a bit easy
Bad Drivers Of The NorCal Area yeah, but steam engines are just cool and interesting, especially considering the fact that lots of people haven’t seen any in real life, altho he is begging for likes and that not cool.
I love them all ,but steam will always hold a special place in my heart.
Lazer Jet you ran out of water that's why you didn't accelerate
To make your races fairer, you could let the computer drive both trains, although not as interesting, it should make the result more reliable.
I just noticed at the beginning, he had plenty of water but apparently Challenger burned it all up to quick, Maybe it's because of all that freight he was pulling and had to work extra hard.
Smoke deflectors are not for aerodynamics, they're designed to keep smoke from driver's views. Plus, in america, its called cabooses, and your water was running low, so that's why you were slowing down.
he was also letting his PSI drop absurdly low. I've found on a lot of the locomotives you never want it below 200
@@brassbeast8582 you're right
@@mrargosthesmartone6945 on jhod
YES!!! MY LAZERJET DREAM HAS BEEN REALIZED!!!
you speed up by pulling the throttle back lol, and your water was at 2%
yeah
Not the throttle, the reverser. Unless you are talking about cab view in first person I am sorry.
You can do the same with the regulator
He was also pulling 100 freight cars and the 3900’s are not as strong as the 4000’s
air delflectors?
they're smoke deflectors/elephant ears
and the challenger type engines were made for freight not racing :/
but its fine
Technically nither were made for racing...
The challenger is the ultimate mixed traffic locomotive
The Union Pacific Big Boy was primarily made for pulling vast amounts of cargo in a shorter amount of time without the need of a double-heading. You know if you pushed the throttle up more you would go faster
@@bossatronsvagepants770 well bigger brother, not older brother
I like how you go “ Noooo. Dibdibdibdibdibdibdidbdidbdibdibdibdidb”
LaZer you probably lost because your water is 2%
R.M.S Olympic ya you are correct
Kaela Pacheco xh
Arthur MacAdams what do you mean
no he lost because big boy is faster than challenger Irl and in game
dennis trident william Even if it was, Oliver still did not manage his Challenger properly.
Freaking Nice! I've been waiting for a freight race!
Princess Aaron: I have been waiting so long for this and I think we’re done here so leave NOW
American trains don't use brake vans anymore. Each car has a brake. What you're calling a brake van is actually a caboose. It's where the workers that weren't in the locomotive would live.
Robert Wynn i dont think you realize hes brittish
thetrainfan 92 Indeed I do realize that. But I figured I'd educate him or anyone else who misunderstands the concept.
I just started watching your channel, and I love it! Keep it up!
I remember when this video released, the intro is still iconic.
LaZeR JET lol I subscribed your train vids are the best really
The reason wh6 you were slowing down is because you were running out of water, once you've ran out of water it is only a matter of time before the boiler explodes!
I love seeing the 2 sisters of the UNION PACIFIC BIG BOY & CHALLENGER racing side by side
You mean brothers
To be honest, the Big Boys are basically superiorized Challengers because the Big Boys had a top speed of 80mph but the Challengers had a speed of 70mph and had less pulling power than the larger Big Boys.

100 cars for an American locomotive, that's like carrying a box of Styrofoam
Especially for the Big Boy 😅
By the Challenger , DONT DO IT FULLY FORWARD, JUST A BIT THEN IT STARTS QUICK XDD
The Challenger is not a piece of junk!!!!!!
I'm so happy you choose my idea amazing video
Technically challenger is big boys older and bigger brother because he was around first and the big boy was an edited and upgraded version of the challenger
But it isn't bigger
In America it’s not called a brake van, It’s called a caboose
13:52 LaZeR JET: Why are you doing this you useless piece of JUNK!? Me: WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY!? XD Also, I have to admit that even though I'm American, I did slightly chuckle when you said something like that out of anger. By the way, do you still play Garry's Mod?
Bro this is the old lazerjet check the new one out I like the challenger too but don't be too rough
This is a very old comment of mine from 7 years ago, back when I was not as mature as I am now. I actually completely forgot about this comment until getting this reply, as I don't usually post many these days. But yeah, that was just younger me being weird. and I have another request for four series three a 9f vs 8f
You can thank the Union Pacific steam shop for that 4014...They made it a reality....
the challenger never would have been pulling that much
space trucker there's a video of it pulling 143 double stack units
How are you spawning 2 TRAINS!!
Bro says he apologizes for mistakes then 10 seconds later calls a caboose a brake van 💀
Their called cars in America well box car to be specific
The Battle for the Largest Steam Locomotive Ever Built
Sometimes big boy has deflectors(only for big boy 4019)
It's okay we still watch your videos and they're amazing
8:58 One of the big boys trucks are derailed
That’s the challenger
I watched all of your videos they're all cool train song
Your channel is SO good and I am a subscriber
In case you didn't notice big boy is a world strongest engine
The regulator is the throttle. What you called the regulator is the gear ( REVERSOR for experts).
My name is Ben Wilmarth. When I start playing Trains Simulator the way you do on your computer, I will do a strength contest between Big Boy 4015 and Challenger 3981. Each will pull 100 cars and I’ll drive the Challenger faster than you can. I could just do with some training from you, but I don’t want Mom, Dad or anyone else to know.
there not called wind deflectors there smoke deflectors
*they’re
Big boy had a head start
The big boy had the inside line on the curve and had shorter distance to go
Where do you get these trains
its called a throttle. that controls the speed.
You have to adjust the throttle (the red bar) along with the reverser (the blue bar) so that you can build up steam. DUH!
I literally wanna say that since you're racing American steam engines, it's probably a good idea to use American terms. The thing at the end is a caboose, the cars the Challenger is pulling are called box cars. What the Big Boy is pulling is called a closed hopper. No....
The Union Pacific challenger is NOT a racing train....
I'm pretty sure statistically a chalenger is faster because they were dual Service locomotives
Depends on where your racing if it's with a heavy freight train or up any sort of grade big boy will win as it was made to pull heavy 5 mile coal trains up and down mountains
Big Boy was faster than the Challenger in real life
the big boy is slightly slower than the challenger
UP Big Boys and Big Girls, and UP Challengers are actually cousins. The Big Boys and Big Girls are Class 4000’s, The Challengers are Class 3000’s.
Big boy can pull a 5 and1/2 mile long train effortlessly
challenger pulled 143
Arnt the smoke deflectors used for other purposes? I do not think they are for areodynamic properties cause if so the mallard and duchess would have them yes?
The smoke deflectors were used to clear the line of view from the cab.
Big boi
Just a little bit longer because of one extra wheel
Lazer if you have a long long consist if you put the reverser on full the train will get more Strength and speed
It's not a break van it's a caboose because they are American trains :)
cince when was this a series + i see he is still not licening to his vewers and not doing a 3 epicode on the slope
Which is the biggest steam locomotive
You dumb ass...... Big boy is the biggest loco in the world.......
Depends on what you are calculating as the Blue Ridges/Alleghanys were close to big boys
can you do a race Between the union pacific dig boy + challenger
are they both from the united states? if so at least people from the united states will be happy cause they are both american
True
Su n yes
Su n They are from my country A.K.A THE BEST COUNTRY EVER!
the true american In that case you must be referring to Kazakhstan .....my sister live next door with man with cow
Yes, Union Pacific is American and the big boy (I don't know about challenger) were made specifically for UP for/during the war
I have seen big boy in steam town in scrainton p.a in the u.s
I saw Big Boy 4014 in Victorville, CA, and Big Boy 4006 in St. Louis, MO
i love the both of the big boys
me to
LaZeR JET I know why you lost you ran out of water
Elaine Borlongan So big
It's a big boy and challenger
well technically they're both considered challengers because they're duplexes. Challenger didn't really have a special name like Big Boy
You should do this again, but with it being the 9F vs. Big Boy.
thank you for doing my idea I said when you when you where doing gta live
in usa we call our break vans are called caboose and wagons are called freight cars
🔄cercle?
I didn't know Jeremy Clarkson liked American trains
Have you ever driven the union Pacific 844 in grey
I think trains look cool w/ wind deflecters too
Toon_lik so1, they are called smoked deflecters.... IJS
Also the challenger and big boy don't need smoke deflectors as they have little shield that cover the dual smokestacks for smoke reflectors that retract to the side of the stacks
Did you do a review on the Challenger??? If not I would like to see that
The Big Boy was built for muscle carrier heavy loads and Rocky Mountain in us
did u know big boy and 844 runs on oil now and there are some steam locomotives in usa that runs oil and how to know its runs on oil is look at the tender u see there no coal pit so its a oil burning steam locomotive
The Challenger was never meant to race, it was just meant for freight
Why not do a comepition between Gordon and Henry from Thomas and friends .🚂
what is the map called
I don't like it when people say challenger is big boy's little brother. Challenger is older than the Big Boy. Yes it's smaller, but Big Boy is still younger.
It's called a caboose in America
17:29 bruh, how you're calling the engine his brother when you were constantly mistaking him as a girl?
Also what you call a break van it's called a caboose in America
Tv Pigy That's the British term for it.
The reason he slowed down is due to the rear right top cilender popping
Have you ever race with another engine by using big boy? I want to see it please
What happened to the Union Pacific challenger?
you could have disabled the service text with the paper with an up facing arrow button
Imagine if you didn't get the comeback and when u got to the loop you head on with big boy
Its actually smoke deflectors to control the smoke and steam
the changer is a freight train not a racing train. so ya.
the challenger was never mentioned for 100 that's why the big came along
Youre the Best LaserJet!
They didn't put wings on the challenger. They did put wings on the northern however.
Who do you think witch train 🚂 is going to win?
Big boy's boiler pressure is 300 psi and challenger's is 280 psi
