I went to school in the 80's. By junior high/6th grade, to show up with a lunch box would have been pasting a target on one's own head. It was strictly brown-bagging, especially for boys. Nowadays some kids, even older ones, might take bento or other compartmentalized boxes. But lunch boxes with characters or with one's name in oversized letters are almost always limited to elementary school.

She hooked me with a sentimental story about cutting one of the kid's sandwiches differently because their bio mom had done it that way. It's a very sweet story, but definitely one that doesn't need to be served up to the public for views.

I've seen other foster mums share these types of stories, about how to make the kids confortable, how to build them up, but they never show the kids, never name them...
The tone is polar opposite, explaining why and how, what one specific child taught them and how they apply it to others.
And even if the tone isn't sentimental, the content always feels uplifting

Idk about New York, but in Texas, any kid who has ever been a ward of the state (foster kid) has in-state college tuition covered by the government

I absolutely use canned cinnamon rolls. I know some people really enjoy baking/cooking and others are willing to sacrifice their time because they think it is so important and more power to them. I, however, want to spend as little of my life preparing food as possible for my mental health because I hate it 😂
Logically, I would prepare the next mornings meal the night before so I wouldn't have to wake up at 4am every morning. That is not gratifying at all. I'd make the bread in huge batches and freeze it, then make eggs or yogurt parfaits fresh each day. I'm not sure why she feels the need to bake every morning. It's not necessary. She literally could take a day or two and prep breakfast for the whole month. Muffins would be a good option too. They cook faster

Some of her kids are old enough to make their own food. I don’t get why she does this. We were a family of 7. on the weekends, get up, mom fried eggs for us, dad cooked bacon or some form of breakfast meat and kids were on frozen waffles and hash browns if we were under 8 years old and dishes. Maybe we would switch it up with pancakes, the food was made in batches, we also ate them in batches. My mom would be at the stove and plate would be emptied as soon as it came out. Different shapes for different kids. The beauty of hot food. I don’t get this my mom wouldn’t do all this crap. Weekdays…. Quick breakfasts - toasted bagel, bread or frozen waffle, Cereal and milk or a muffin or yogurt and granola. A little kid could grab those foods out of the fridge. And fruit and milk with every meals. Mom shoved our faces with fruit and milk since we were Asian and she wanted us to be taller lol
