I really enjoy the fact the architect used very accessible things like IKEA storage and just packed this small space with so many big space amenities! I mean a shower and tub in the backyard?! That was totally unexpected.
True about Ikea, but pressed wood doesn’t stand the test of time, especially the connections of the door hinges. Love the shower and tub on the terrace. I always wanted an outdoor shower!!
@@daCubanaqt True that, but at the same time, the standardised aspect of it makes it extremely easy to replace. Also, it's really easy to alter as your storage needs change. (speaking from experience bc I've been maintaining a modular ikea cupboard for 15yrs)

Thank goodness for the outdoor amenities, because the indoor shower is like a vertical coffin. I can't imagine showering without bumping my elbows and knees against the walls and being unable to bend over to wash my feet.
It's 47 square meters. That's a typical european size for 1-2 people to live in. I have 44 which translates to hallway, bathroom, kitchen, living room, bedroom, 2 small storage rooms. It's an interesting place tho, especially the outdoor tub blew my mind =D
Gorgeous apartment and so surprising how much storage she had, plus a large kitchen which would be a "Must have" for me. Sad though that the beautiful wooden beams and ceilings were covered over by plasterboard. I know people like a clean, minimalist look these days but those ceilings were beautiful and I'm sure could have been painted to lighten the room.
Congratulations to Mr. Pardo for this incredible work. The Spanish housing situation is critical at this moment but this is the perfect example of how optimize a studio without lose the style touch. Thanks for share your amazing work with us. 🇪🇦 Seguid asi, gracias.
As a picky designer, some elements of this apartment really impressed me. I think I love the kitchen window the most, for the whole video I kept wondering if it just tilts-open or has some other mechanism and boom, I didn't see that sliding coming. I only wish there was a shot from outside to the kitchen wall, to see how the window rests against the building (probably on top and bottom rails). On a practical side - having a curtain separate your mattress from kitchen smells - not so great idea :) But who knows, maybe they just make coffee there or keep draft to ventilate it. While I love the clean look of the ceiling, I think exposed beams would make one feel there's even more room inside. I'd just paint them and the ceiling white for the same effect. But maybe the space is being used for insulation now? In any case, very inspiring design and nice video, keep up the good work.
Totally agree, I would have kept the beams I think they were an asset and I feel it is a shame that they are covered. I think painting them white would have been the right solution and they would have added to the farm feel that the client was after.
@@yesimyagcisilahtar7731 .. Looking at the plans and sections, there seems to be a gently sloping roof about 600-650mm wide outside the window .... How safe it is, though, I do not know. 😀 It might be a long drop down to the street!! 😲
Same, I can't believe the majority of people thinks this is one of the best designs. They could have updated the existing floor plan and kept the wood beams, which added warmth to the space. I understand the need of a bigger kitchen, but why not use the windowless bedroom to enlarge the living room/kitchen, this way they could have had a proper bedroom, with both a window and more insulation from the kitchen smells
@@nome1629 Thank God! Two months later and I was scrolling through the comments wondering why everybody loved it. I also quite like the aesthetic of the yellow unit but it shrinks the space massively. The bedroom and bathroom feel like a cave and the guest bed like a gimmik. Folding couch anyone?
When I saw the original pics, it was clear that was one of the classical Madrid apartments that are too dark due to the low declining wood ceiling. And those are usually tricky to live because they're too dark even in sunny Spain. So it's amazing to see how much natural light is inside the space now. Great project!

LOVE how functional all this is without compromising on little luxuries - SO MUCH storage, bathroom accessible from both spaces, guest bed, laundry in unit, outdoor terrace with shower and tub? Incredible!!
Beautiful place, very elegantly designed. This is a great example that you don't need a lot of room for a home to feel spacious, you just need to consider how you move around and live in the space, and then design a home around that.
The area of the city shown is Plaza Mayor not Puerta del Sol. Different vibes but given that Sol is undergoing massive reconstruction just now, I understand why you’d show a prettier part nearby! For anyone visiting Madrid at Christmas, Puerta del Sol is where people gather to meet friends and see the massive Christmas tree made from lights. It’s an iconic part of Madrid and this flat is a reflection of the vibrant neighbourhood!
I came here to say this but you already did. Very different vibes indeed: the Beatles and the Stones, in fact. Most people tend to have a very outspoken preference for one or the other.
While I enjoy seeing these spaces and the sunlight coming through, I would also like to see how the space looks at night.. I feel most everyone spends more time in their homes at night, so creating a cozy inviting space with great lighting is more essential imo
This was a massive renovation. Can't even imagine what it must have cost despite IKEA cabinets. The result is beautiful. My only reservation is that the bathroom looks too small and I'm not a fan of open showers 😁

I can’t express how much I love this apartment❤ the simplicity the concealment the colour contrast and harmony the budget constraint the uniqueness and a vibrant terrace. The designer is extremely thoughtful to make use of every inch and cater the needs of the owners.
The simplicity and functionality of this, combined with a lovely yellow and white aesthetic, works beautifully. The window slide is a gem of an idea, as is the outdoor tub and shower 👏👏
Loved the functionality of the apartment and affordable solutions like Ikea furniture. I might have opted for leaving the original wooden beams exposed and painting them to have that element of interest in the ceiling.
Bearing in mind the lack of heat insulation on those old buildings and the scorching heat in Madrid during summer, it is likely that these beautiful architectural elements were sacrifised for the sake of comfort. A choice had to be made.
Simple love this design. It meets beautifully, the sweet spot between aesthetics and functionality ❤️. The colour scheme, use of materials, spatial planning is marvelous. Kudos to the architect 👌 Ole !
I love this space ...the architect thought of the space in a fabulous way ...the pop of colour work so well... I love it all ... I could move in now ...
It has quite a few innovative touches: the shower at the end of the short hallway into the main living area; the projection TV that can projected on to the bedroom storage wall or into the main room between the two windows and the deep interior curtained window which converts into a sort of bar (though I'm not exactly sure where the couch gets shoved off to--maybe the blank white wall hiding the guest Murphy bed). It's all quite nice although I think people taller than the presenter might have a problem with the low ceiling along the exterior wall.
I am in love with this apartment. I love the real couch, instead of the wooden box with some cushions that serves as the seating in too many of these small homes/apartments. Yellow is one of my favourite colours for walls...and that shade of yellow that stretches across the entire living room storage wall is absolutely gorgeous.
