i had a black rx 50 when i was 13 till i was 16 and i sold it to get a car. it qualifies as a scooter so at 13 you can get a scooter license. i loved it. i rode that thing all day every day. i wish i woulda kept it because i had no idea it would become a rare collectible bike! i bought it from stewert cooper. he owned the cycle shop in dyersburg tn. he was a professional street bike racer. i was his cut his lawn when i was a kid and there was an army base that had leased a few of these bikes and the lease was up and when he got the bikes back he hooked me up with one brcause i wanted a motorcycle so bad and i had been saving up to but a dirt bike from him and he talked me into the 50 special. i’m glade he did too cause that street leagal bike was way more fun than the dirt bike woulda been. and the girls i was getting once i got that bike...good lord! whole new world and it was a beautiful place to be. i could get to the girls out in the county where the kids with bicycles couldn’t get to. i had some REALLY great experiences with that bike. it looked like it was new when i sold it. i took good care of it. you didn’t mix the oil like a normal 2 cycle it had a little tank behind the left side panel where you put the oil in. you were supposed to use yamaha 2 cycle oil but which is expensive for a kid so i used kendal 20/50 instead. it took regular gas, not the unleaded. back then they still had regular gas at the pump. your choices were regular or unleaded they didn’t have unleaded plus or super unleaded. i don’t know what you would do about that now days though since you can’t get regular gas. damn i wish i would have kept that bike! it was an 82.
I owned one of these back in 1985, it was my second motorcycle. My dad bought for me for my 13th birthday and I wish I had kept it....I rode that thing like a dirt bike and I gave it hell and it always brought me home...Very reliable engine...I sure miss it...!!!
Don't forget how swept back those handlebars are. Its almost like a little cruiser / chopper. I would love a RX80 bobber rebuild, but this one is to rare to touch.

This was my first motorcycle. Rode to school and back every day. Was a good bike.
Incredible 50cc bike, just like the Honda MB5 50cc! Absolute GEMS! I still have my MB5 and ride it locally! Turns heads like you wouldn't believe!
Just purchased a midnight special 3 days ago. Man the bike is so fun!! Now I need to find a source for parts/tires.
I had a chance to get one back in the day. I have the brochure for it. I ended up getting a Honda CB 125. Wish I had it now!
Ran across an ad for one, not running, for $600. Unfortunately, I was on vacation in the area and had no way of getting in back home.
Were you in southern california? I think i bought it
I'm still kicking myself for not buying the only one I ever found on craigslist...
Dude I had a chance to buy a Suzuki OR 50 from Craigslist for $500 and that keeps me up some nights.
