  • OHHH $#!! NO FRONT BRAKES!
Hellllo everybody! In this video, I take the rare $150 barn find 1983 Yamaha RX-50 on its first test ride! I also filled up the tires with air, changed the kickstarter to a better one, changed the oil, changed the air filter, added a chain, and tried to fix the front brake master cylinder! That's right, I TRIED to fix the front brakes, buut I guess it's time for a master cylinder rebuild kit! Thanks for watching!

The bugging is probably just shit in the carb - with it being that old and the inside of the tank probably not in good shape then small bits of shit can partially block the one of the jets - it then flows through and more shit does the same thing. Some comment below are talking about compression - but compression doesn't change from 1 moment to the next......

I never had problems using normal 10w-30 with a wet clutch. I used it in many Suzuki PV 50cc mopeds and I had even changed the cylinder to 80cc to one of them, no clutch slip at all. I suspect that has just clutch plates gone, or close to gone.

My dad bought me one of these bikes when I turned 14 and I loved it. He paid also $150 for it and it had around 300 miles on it. Practically brand new. He bought it from his best friend who owned a used car lot. I rode that bike like it was a motocross bike, seriously, even sneeked onto a local motocross track many times and ran the mess out of it. Regarding hand starting. I could start mine up also with my hands, even when it was new, they just are little engines that are easily turned over. It was very reliable it never left me stranded anywhere. It's max speed on level ground was 54mph and for a 50cc stock that is faster than any 50cc scooter out there stock on the road today. I truly wish my dad would had put mine away in his shed for when I got older because I want it back extremely bad. Alot of memories for that bike and many fun stories of my childhood with it.

Try to rinse tank again, add a fuel filter, and clean carb again before trying to rejet. That will probably fix the boggyness. I would start there first. Also great to see you using a rubber mallet and torque wrench in the last few vids. Thumbs up. The gunk in the MC is probably in the brake lines too. Try to clear the line if you rebuild the MC. Bleeding brakes on bikes can be tricky I had to reverse bleed my front brakes on my 78KZ650sr and finally cleared the air out of lines. Great collection of bikes

i cleaned a master cylinder that looked almost like that, except the crud was . . . crunchy.
i cleaned it, then put fluid in it. the thing had compression because it would not move very far.
i took it apart and found that the crud had made its way into the piston compressor chamber, and that same crud was everywhere.
later on i found out that the break line ( this one had 2 sets : solid line and the rubber hose type to the brake cylinder ) ,
had a build up of crud at the union section ( nut screws on to the metal male break line ) , so i used a clothes rack wire
( a thick one to with stand the pressure i was going to put on it ) and straightened it out , put the tip of it in the metal break line
and the tip of the rubber hose to clean it out. it had stopped it up.
then took apart the break cylinder and removed the old gunky molasses ( old break fluid ) and cleaned the cylinder out.
put everything back, filled it up , and now it works. BUT, now i have to take apart the break lines and use chenille stems
    [ pipe cleaners as i call them ] ( chenille light brown 50 pc. #158469 0.24 x 12 inch (0.6 x 30.48 cm ) )
to clean out the remaining gunk and make it clean again. but before i put it back together, i will soak the rubber lines
in 303 aerospace protection ( because they do not make that type of break line anymore. ) to preserve the rubber for a longer
    time frame.
submerge all of it for about 30 mins. take it out and let the 303 fluid drain into the jug, cleaned out milk jug [ gallon ] .
((((clean out the hoses before soaking )))) , and let hang over night for 12 to 14 hours, so the 303 can do its job.
    you wont regret it.
also , clean that seat off good. then spray the 303 on it. respray it 30 mins later, and let sit over night for 12 to 14 hours.
do the same for the tires, why ruin good tires when you do not have to. . . . [[[ yeas it will work on that type of rubber too ]]] .
if you need the stems longer, just solder the tips together, just remove the fuzz first to make a better connection.
as for the exhaust smoking alot, looks like you have to much oil mixed with the gas, causing the engine to die out. also probably
from the amount of oil for the filter may have something to do with it .
wrong type of oil to use in that engine. remove it , and put in the correct type. may have to do a clutch replacement now
due to all the revving at such a really low movement.
    awesome video !!
    1000 thumbs up !!

With that free-flow air filter, you are making it run lean. Which will destroy rings an cylinder pretty soon, cause 2-strokes get lubricated only through the lube in the fuel. Cut up some pieces of air filter foam to the shape of the original filter and put the air filter box back in there.

Remove the air filter completely, that may remove the bike's will to die when throttling at low speeds. If that's the case then get a better airfilter.

It's smoking a lot because it's running on petrol oil plus the autolube pump oil at the same time.

About the compression.. That is the same motor as my DT50MX has and everyone with that motor has bad compression. So i guess Thats just how it is. But it depends on HOW bad the comp is ahaha

Just find a newer working master cylinder. The brakes in the early 80s were just a suggestion when they were new anyway. Look at how small the disc is compared to the wheel diameter.

It's bogging because the air fuel is off you have to tune it for that type of filter I put a uni on mine and it was running bad also because it's air fuel ratio was off because the filter is allowing more air in it than the stock

hello i'm about to buy an E-ton Matrix scooter thats been sitting for 10 years outside. What do I need to get it to working condition? it only has 63 miles on it. I'm a noob at this stuff but I want to get into it it looks fun!

      @GoldGuyRides  5 ปีที่แล้ว

Well if it's been sitting outside for 10 years then it probably needs a lot of work! But with enough dedication, there is nothing you can't do. Start by cleaning out the gas tank, putting fresh gas in, check the air filter and if it's somewhat clean, try to start it!

Do I need a new kickstart lever? or do i need to completely open the kickstart and lubricate it? when I push the kickstart you can see the lights come on temporarily.
