I appreciate your candor that while you overall like the iX that you are not hesitant to point out what could have been done differently/better. Even though I was heavily criticized lately about talking too much about design and kidneys, to the point where I got really mean messages and emails from readers, personally attacking me, I still need to do my job. It's a press car, but that doesn't mean I can't be objective. The goal is really to review the car as an owner, since I get to keep it far longer than the usual 7 days. I always say this: there is no perfect car. Some things missing in cars are sometimes simply due to costs, not necessarily because BMW can't make them.

I bought the iX 50 in December and absolutely love it. Granted I have a short work commute and we have another SUV we use for longer trips so I recognize it’s not for everyone. But the luxury and quiet interior are addicting, and the thrill of that massive torque is amazing. Btw I’m sure that B&W sound system is incredible, but the Harmon Kardon sounds really good, too. Only thing I’d change for next time is getting the leather seats instead of the Sensatec and also the luxury console.

Usage of trunk space for international size luggage, carry ons, baby stroller etc ?
How to get tether for baby seat which normally would go under the headrest space to the hook in the back of the car to work with this iX seat design ?
Can three average adults (~ 5'11'') sit in this side by side in the rear ?
Bowers Wilkins vs HK Stereo system ?

    • @bmwblog
      @bmwblog  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I think you can see in the video that one car seat is tethered. It's as simple as in any other BMW. The stroller is a tough one because there are so many sizes. The bags also. I have an international size bag but it's huge compared to others. 3 adults can easily fit. If you look at the review where I sit between the car seats, you can see how large they are. Audio? Will habe to find an iX With the base one. But even then, it will be quite subjective. How do I measure it? Clearly the BW system is miles ahead.

Fantastic review video you’ve made. The car is a looker for sure but I’m with you on the center console area. The emptiness looks like that of a van where the passenger can see the pedals on the driver side! This is not cool at all and in my opinion is anti-luxury. The lack of a proper console is a design mistake for such a vehicle. They put one in the new X1 and X2 now but not in the IX!!! Come on BMW.

This is a great review and I think it’s pretty accurate. The main differences I feel people should know about are that you cannot get rear axle / active steering on the M50, you’re forced to get the sport design exterior on the M 60 which then might influence your color choices for the car because of what you mentioned about making the look more acceptable, The boot is smaller than the X5 so that can make quite a difference to those carrying a lot of stuff it is simply not as big, you cannot get the soft close doors as a standalone option. Instead, you must get the glass controls and wood paneling underneath that that doesn’t look as good with the interior color combinations of which there are not many. There are limited external colors for the car also. To answer your question directly, the hybrid X5 or the IX? If you plan on routinely taking long trips, go for the hybrid. Otherwise, the IX is a nicer drive. I’m tall too and I miss the thigh support but it’s OK. An important thing to note, you cannot get the Bowers and Wilkins audio on the X5 hybrid. You’re forced to get the M version of the X5 car for a lot more money. You mentioned the IX was one of the quietest cars you’ve ever driven, but the 2019 version of the X5 that allowed you to purchase acoustic glass was also very quiet. BMW removed this option and others from the lower trim X5 versions, like active steering, heated cup holders, bowers and Wilkins and soft close doors. So you can get better options and more effective tech on the iX than on the X5 unless you get the M version, even then the price on the iX is lower in many cases with incentives.
Really, aside from Active Steering iX50 is enough. It’s not as powerful as the M60 but it’s very very powerful. The M60 is so ridiculously fast that you can’t effectively use the power.
Also make note that there is no “frunk” on the iX.
Overall great review really good job

So, a couple days ago I looked at the BMWUSA website and saw the M wheel and and M interior trim (which was black) as options on the iX50, and also I saw ACTIVE INTEGRAL STEERING. I was a little annoyed, as this was definitely NOT an option on the 2024 that I custom ordered and received 3 weeks ago.
I asked the dealer about it and he couldn’t find any 2025 models that have been ordered with the option, so it was confusing. I’ll update this when they get back to me. I’ll probably order another one if they can make the price make sense. It’s an $1150 option, but my real problem is trade in value immediate depreciation problem.

I tried both, I get a regular 310 actual miles in the summer and around 270 in the winter, I live in UK. I intend to keep this car as even with the newer stuff rolling off the line. My advise is to lease and not buy the iX.
The battery technology is older and it will be out of date by the time the lease is up.
Electric vehicles are like cell phones these days. The technology is moving too fast and you don't want to be stuck with a $100K car that you lose money on :(
I also don't agree with you on the iX 50 vs. iX M60 comments at the end of the video.
The iX 50 is mushy and bouncy to drive in stock form and it requires upgrades to include air suspension, active steering, rear axle steering and let's not forget the amazing B+W sound system.
If you can get the M60 at a discount, then why wouldn't you? I got close to $20K off MSRP.
How are those Bridestone tires working out in the winter in Chicago?
I got them on my M60 with the 22s.
I paid for performance tires, but they are actually all season tires developed by Bridgestone specifically for the iX.
I was going to swap them out for Michelin Pilot AS Sports, but if they are actually good in the winter, I'll keep them.
