I think it's due to how Tesla does their EPA testing vs everyone else. The EPA drive cycle has 5 tests, but only 2 are required. If a company does the 2 test method, the EPA subtracts 30% from the result. Tesla does the full test to try to get the biggest numbers, while everyone else does 2 tests and subtracts 30% because it's more conservative
At first, I also found the iX quite ugly. But strangely enough, I actually like it a lot now, I don't find it ugly at all anymore. The oddly shaped steering wheel makes it possible to see the display completely, even if you have the steering wheel set quite low.

I just upgraded from the xdrive50 to an m60 and I have to disagree about it not being a true "m" car. It's 250 extra ft/lb of torque, much better brakes, sport tuned air suspension and rear steering. If you turn traction off in sport mode you can easily break the back end loose around curves and it corners *far* more eargerly than a 6,000lb vehicle has any right to. The only torque-ier EVs I've driven were performance model Teslas and the handling in those isn't even playing the same game.
Wow, I just priced up a Canadian M50 with B & O sound, rear steering the whole shebang at $120,000.00 such a steal of deal for such a good road tripping car, way to go BMW! And if I order today I can get it in early July, BMW is serious about their EV's!!!
Hey, noticed you were listening to Dark Side Of The Moon. Check out Dub Side of the Moon by Easy Star All Stars. Reggae version of the whole album. Awesome!
Are you going to officially range-test your e-Tron? I'm routinely seeing 2.5-2.8 mi/kWh in a mixed cycle and 2.9-3.1 mi/kWh in steady-state cruise on the interstate with the base 20" aero wheels. Can't imagine that the very pretty 21s are causing that big of an efficiency drop. e-Tron does reward skill and attention to the environment since it's able to actually coast unlike almost every other EV on the market.
Pretty much all Germans can do more than their EPA rating, its a trend by now. Really impressed, so basically the EPA rating should be really realistic on a real life basis.
Did you take the high temp reduced air density into your range estimations? Not to mention that you are well above sea level to start with, so again reduced air density. How did State of Charge do with this vehicle at much closer to sea level? BMW can take credit for their conservative range estimations, give customers more.
The big problem is the storage space. It has none. I had one on pre order and when the dealer got a test model I went and saw it. Loved it, but it seems small on the inside. Came back with my fam of 3 typical baggage load and could not get it all in. Cancelled the order. as much as I loved the car it needs to be able to carry stuff to be a suv.
I think you have summer tires on those wheels and that will make a nice difference .. I don´t think any all season tires will have a better rolling efficiency than a summer tire.
A dealer has a demo iX 50 and let me take it for a ride for almost the whole day. Absolutely love the car, one of the best car driven ever. Ride really good, smooth better than my G12 7 series. I was amazed by the iX. Was thinking of ordering the 50 or the M60. For fully loaded car price difference of the 50 and M60 is around 10k. So I am torn. lol Just wondering if the ride quality on the 50 and M60 any difference? I know BMW M tune the suspension on the M60. On the 50 the car was equip with the harman kardon sound system and it sound amazing. Do you think the bowels and wilkins has huge difference? and worth the extra cost $4000? I can't wait to drive the i7. Seriously BMW make the best electric car in term of ride quality, build quality and overall. drove Tesla, Lucid, Mercedes EQ and Audi Etron. BMW iX is the one. Thank for the review Kyle!
In the US, they removed the Bowers and Wilkins sound system option in the m50; but I think it comes standard in the M60. Personally I'd save the $15k and get a decked out M50 with the blue microfiber seats. It's $25k cheaper than the base model X; so I don't know how anyone could justify buying the Tesla over this unless they absolutely must have 3 rows of seats or are a Tesla shareholder.
Kyle, great review! I am very surprised with the highway mileage you were able to get with the iX M60. In reality, most people don't drive on the freeway every day for the entire charge. The majority of people drive in the city with all the stop-and-go, uphill, downhill, either the A/C or the heater is on, etc.. Do you happen to have the realistic everyday city mileage available?
Good review. Did you find where the rock hit? Are you going to present a battery charge curve? One thing you neglected in “$$$Price”. BMW’s tend to be more highly priced (considering the quality and features). What about towing capacity? Thanks.
I guess you need to spend $105k to get a reasonable sound system. BMW isn't even offering a HK system, an $850 stero option no longer offered as an option, For that matter, lumbar support on the passenger seat on their more "modestly:" priced $54k sedans isn't available. but damn at least I got side collision detection. However, it stopped working after 2k miles, and I'm still waiting to get into the dealership for them to look at. I'm not sure I'd trust BMW with an all-electric vehicle at this point. I'll wait for the 1st round of beta testers, thanks
This car is growing on me. If it depreciates like a bmw normally does it might be a great purchase once used cars prices calm down. Great efficiency and range.
BMW is doing something right. Seems this is superior to the Model X in range, comfort & luxury, but it’s not a three row which is a bummer. Too bad they aren’t building enough of them for demand.
What do you think of the Polestar 90% recommendation? They also have tiny buffers. I charge off normal mains each evening when the sun shines and let it run up to 90 - is that okay? I am never sure.
It would be interesting to see what the car would do on roads with little climb and at a speed of say 55 mph. Could it get over 400 miles? As much as I like the 70mph runs there are a ton of places in the USA where 55 means 55 and 60mph gets you a ticket and 65 or 70 might get you arrested for reckless driving.
How would you compare the iX M60 versus the X7 M60i? I know they are very different cars, but what would you choose if it was your money? I would love to know your thoughts as I am about to order one of the two. Thanks!
It seems like the i4 and the i7 are compromised Frankenstein cars built on an ICE platform while the iX is the only true ground up EV available from BMW today - and, unsurprisingly, the iX seems to be the most impressive of the three by far. I look forward to seeing more ground up EVs from BMW.
@@tobias_k01 True, I'm probably being too harsh to the i4 and i7 - they still benefit from BMW's latest drivetrain technology. But I still think that the iX benefits a little bit more, and I look forward to more ground up EVs from BMW.
I know you go to great lengths for accuracy adjusting speed by 1 mph. Should you not also adjust the odometer a corresponding amount - 1.4% in this case? Personally I think there are enough variables that your results are plenty accurate. Instead of 339 perhaps the more accurate range on the test is 335. Food for thought.
Curiously the EPA ranges for the 2024 models differ from earlier years and do not depend on wheel size. Specifically the 2024 EPA ranges are 307 miles for the xDrive50 and 296 miles for the M60. So almost the same range, but still well below the 339 miles Kyle obtained in the 2023 M60. Interesting now would be a side by side range test with both 2024 models. How about it Kyle! :)

You can't see them. The phone camera has a wider wavelength range than the human eye and picks up IR a lot. You can test this by opening up your cell phones camera and flashing your TV remote at it.
Wow and you accidentally left the passenger vented seat on, which I noticed in other iXs that for some reason it turns the passenger vented seat on even if no one is in it
did i hear that right? $43 to charge? thats not much cheaper than filling up a regular gas gallon tank. ive always thought EV charging is less than $20
Well, that's 12.6¢ per mile. At $3.50/gallon, you'd need to get 28mpg to break even. At $4/g, you'd need 32mpg. The x5 (closest ICE comparison) gets 13mpg city and 18 highway. To go 340 miles on the highway you'd need 19 gallons, or $76 at $4/g. Orrrr you could charge at home for much less. In CO average is about 13¢/kWh so about $13.60 to fully charge. Orrrr you could get solar panels and after initial cost your fill up price is $0.
Sadly, there is no room under the hood. It's all taken up by mechanical bits that other EVs found better places to tuck away. I hope BMW's Neue Klasse platform due in 2025 actually delivers on the promise of a dedicated EV platform.

Amazing. This is the best EV SUV for sale, you'd be crazy to consider a Model x.
How about EQS SUV?
Model X is only good if you want super fast speed.
Very impressive showing by the IX! Can’t wait to see if the Cadillac Lyriq can beat this in the range test or not.
Awesome!
Looks so good!❤️👍
Tesla absolutely over promises, EPA range on model x is 340+ miles. But it charges to 320 miles and only goes 285 miles. On average WTF
Isn't it a Bang & Olufsen sound system in the e-tron not Bowers & Wilkins? Although I'm sure both sound excellent. This iX is looking pretty special.
I describe the front as an Ex large George Foreman "grill" opened up and glued to the front! FUGly!
This vehicle is beautiful.
Great video Kyle
Would love to see this test on the Lucids claim of 500 miles.
Great content! love your videos
Munro is pretty impressed with this unit too.
3 days ago I traded in my MYP for the iX M60. I can’t stop looking for reasons to drive it!
Was the windshield cracked
Pretty much all Germans can do more than their EPA rating, its a trend by now. Really impressed, so basically the EPA rating should be really realistic on a real life basis.
EPA *2 = WLTP km ;-)
Did you take the high temp reduced air density into your range estimations? Not to mention that you are well above sea level to start with, so again reduced air density. How did State of Charge do with this vehicle at much closer to sea level? BMW can take credit for their conservative range estimations, give customers more.
Do you think when it's foggy it consumes significantly more?
The big problem is the storage space. It has none. I had one on pre order and when the dealer got a test model I went and saw it. Loved it, but it seems small on the inside. Came back with my fam of 3 typical baggage load and could not get it all in. Cancelled the order. as much as I loved the car it needs to be able to carry stuff to be a suv.
IX1 will have the same storage space. 😳
Hay. Can you add km/h on post-production somewhere in the corner
I think you have summer tires on those wheels and that will make a nice difference .. I don´t think any all season tires will have a better rolling efficiency than a summer tire.
A/S have better rolling Resistance. Just look at the model 3 primacy mxm4.
summers are usually stickier so more grip=resistance
A dealer has a demo iX 50 and let me take it for a ride for almost the whole day. Absolutely love the car, one of the best car driven ever. Ride really good, smooth better than my G12 7 series. I was amazed by the iX. Was thinking of ordering the 50 or the M60. For fully loaded car price difference of the 50 and M60 is around 10k. So I am torn. lol
Just wondering if the ride quality on the 50 and M60 any difference?
Yeah, was on the fence about spending that much to get the B&W and then BMW made my decision for me. 🤣
Did you ever find the rock impact?
Kyle, great review! I am very surprised with the highway mileage you were able to get with the iX M60. In reality, most people don't drive on the freeway every day for the entire charge. The majority of people drive in the city with all the stop-and-go, uphill, downhill, either the A/C or the heater is on, etc.. Do you happen to have the realistic everyday city mileage available?
The front is impressive. If it’s too strong you are too weak.
oh finally, the perfect response! 👏👏👏👏
Lol, we have eyes, front and wheels are ugly
Great video as always. That 77kW is the total energy recuperated since factory….sorry should had waited for the end.
*kWh
There is going to be and XM. 740 HP. V8 HYBRID. You can order in on September 27th. YOU'RE WELCOME.
Good review. Did you find where the rock hit? Are you going to present a battery charge curve? One thing you neglected in “$$$Price”. BMW’s tend to be more highly priced (considering the quality and features). What about towing capacity? Thanks.
This thing has great range, well done BMW. Looks matter for me for the cars, not so much for things like SUVs.
Now imagine if the motors were actually permanent magnets! It would have even been better
You killed it with 400volt battery
How would you compare audio systems from Etron, Rivian and the BMW?
I just saw one with 1300 miles for $69,000
BMW is doing something right. Seems this is superior to the Model X in range, comfort & luxury, but it’s not a three row which is a bummer. Too bad they aren’t building enough of them for demand.
You are a great speaker. The one thing I request is to give up the boom boom boom every time you push a button.
Great range test! What is the colour of the uX in this video? Is this Sophisto Grey?
How would you compare the iX M60 versus the X7 M60i? I know they are very different cars, but what would you choose if it was your money? I would love to know your thoughts as I am about to order one of the two. Thanks!
It seems like the i4 and the i7 are compromised Frankenstein cars built on an ICE platform while the iX is the only true ground up EV available from BMW today - and, unsurprisingly, the iX seems to be the most impressive of the three by far. I look forward to seeing more ground up EVs from BMW.
Not quite, even the i4 has been convincingly efficient in many tests.
Food for thought.
how many miles reduction if hilly + winter + 70mph? thanks. i don't plan to use this only in the summer and my area is hilly
Time to range test a Model X Plaid or LR for comparison
the fact this IX with the way better interior and sound system is performing like a model X(costs more) in range is crazy! And this is a gasoline x EV chassis, pathetic! Tesla is getting beat and they have full dedicated 10 year EV platform LMFAO
@@roboticvenom1935 How is Tesla getting beat? The Model X has 3 rows and is in a price category of its own. Considering the stupid high demand for Teslas, all I see is BMW still losing. The IX is a solid car, but it's design inside and out is atrocious. Your average KIA/Hyundai looks far better and more interesting. So is Tesla really losing out? Nah, BMWs are losing their curb appeal and sales numbers compared to Tesla clearly outline that lol
@@ayushmalpeddi2793 Tesla is getting beat in exclusivity and desirability, quality, quietness, range, and luxury. Car Wow (7M Subcribers) did a survey on what looked better between the Etron, Mercedies, ix, and Model X SUVs. The ix beat the Model X (dead last place) 4:1 in the poll of what looked better. Looks like you might have some Tesla blinders on? Check out an ix in red leather interior, much better than any Tesla. I for one would have no desire to be driving a Camry common Tesla. BMW has long waiting lists, but has never been about beating the production numbers of Tesla, thank goodness.
@@roboticvenom1935 I thought iX was a dedicated EV platform and the BMW i4 was a modified 4 series?
@@ayushmalpeddi2793 I traded my Model X performance 2020 model for an iX50, could not stand all the little quirks … the iX50 is even more efficient, even with the 20 inch wheels on the MX, my iX has the 22 inch … it’s quite, has Carplay, real 360 camera, no phantom breaking, cross traffic exit warning … the list is long … If space is important the MX is the better choice, but that is about it (SC network is open to none Tesla’s in EU)
Do you not like the joystick control more? Seems annoying to reach around like that. Beautiful car!
The most important tidbit of information in this video: Monophobia by deadmau5
I think the front is growing on me...
Someone needs to explain this to me….for the past century, cars had front grills for radiator cooling. This car has the same, though for a different function, including paying homage to its manufacturer’s past, and now it’s considered ugly? Huh? What?
Do these cars have anything like Sentry mode?
The lane changes are probably within 5 seconds, as I believe that is a requirement for the German market.
Maybe the EPA testers expected BMW drivers to drive way more aggressively, so they were very cynically with their range estimates?
Sorry, I think this max range thing is cool, but if you own a car/suv with that type of power, I sincerely doubt you'll drive it like Kyle consistently. Beyond that, if you can afford $105k for a car are you really going to give a damn about MPG, I just sold an x1 m35i that was a hoot to drive in a straight line, butI thought it had a lot of problems so I dumped it. I can assure you though that I consistently used as many of the 305 hp as I could and suffered the obvious consequences
In fact no
The reason is German automakers have opted to derate their cars to avoid overpromising and underdelivering. It also is a better overall estimate since the winter loss will seem that much smaller.
I just did a test drive of iX M60 and the throttle tuning must have been an issue on your car only, perhaps one of those BMW ghost things. My tester was as smooth as a Tesla, and the Regen was more pleasant than Tesla
i have almost no interest in this SUV, but i do love the coupe version i4 m50
You need to do those tests in winter while snowing and in freezing temp.
Great car but those dash board dazzly bits will catch a driver out. If have to 3d print a cover
You can't see them. The phone camera has a wider wavelength range than the human eye and picks up IR a lot. You can test this by opening up your cell phones camera and flashing your TV remote at it.
Beautiful Beawer BMW. Add 2 white vinyl pieces under fron2 mask, as 2 teehts
How doesn’t it have a frunk?!?!?!
Sadly, there is no room under the hood. It's all taken up by mechanical bits that other EVs found better places to tuck away. I hope BMW's Neue Klasse platform due in 2025 actually delivers on the promise of a dedicated EV platform.
Are you going to range text the xDrive50?
Is the m60 worth it over the xdrive50?
At 8:22...your phone looks as well maintained as your front yard! 🤦🏻♂🤦🏻♂🤣🤣
The lack of a frunk is a negative for me.
Good drive
BMV incredible range
Kyle- I’m looking at a Taycan and the dealer told me that if I let the battery die, I have to buy a whole new battery unit for around $40k. Is this true?!?
I'm mystified that someone hasn't created an after market front end cosmetic correction for that BMW mistake. Almost nobody likes it. Only a few tolerate it.
For real. Barf inducing.
What happen to the rock impact?
