  • Mike Costin, as half of the revolutionary Cosworth, all but dominated Formula 1 during the late '60s and throughout the '70s. The Cosworth DFV won 12 drivers' titles, helped win 10 constructors' titles, two Le Mans, and later powered six F3000 titles, 10 Indy 500 victories in a row and nine successive CART champions.
But there was more to Mike Costin and Cosworth than that. He and former Cosworth colleague Jack Field joined Ed Foster and Simon Arron for the latest instalment of the Motor Sport podcast in association with Mercedes-Benz.

Two great men that helped build COSWORTH I have many great memories of working for both of them. The big thing I appreciated was we were all in it together to succeed and win. It wasn't us and them we all had the same goals and with that the company was very successful . Today June 12th 2020 I have just learnt that Jack has departed us for the heavens a month shy of his 90th. He gave so much with his London humor RIP Jack we will miss you.

I would like to echo the remarks from 4speedy1. I first met Jack when he joined Kislingury Bowls Club in the c1980's. What a character!
I will always remember the first time he came down to the club; I was serving behind the bar. He came up to the bar and said two pints please. I replied "ENFIELD HIGHWAY". Jack said bloody hell that is where I’m from, how did you know that? All down to the accent I said because that is where I was also born. He never tired of telling anyone when we were together that this bloke (meaning me) new exactly where I was born after I only ordered two pints of beer!!!
Our condolences go to his family at Weedon.
      A great bloke!

Mike gave me a job at Cosworth and Jack sold me bits for my home work ( F2 stockcar racing ) Love them both. All the Cosworth people I worked with have stayed with me all my life.

As a glider pilot I see Mike from time to time and caught up with him again today. He is still doing well, tinkering with his glider. Manage to get my 7 year old to stand still for long enough to get a photo together with him. I hope when my son gets a little older he will be able to appreciate that man in the photo, back in the crazy summer of 2020, and how he and his fellow engineers so greatly influenced the world of F1.
