I wouldn’t. The purpose of leaving it open is to allow the connection to dry out should it get moisture inside. By wrapping it with tape you’d be promoting moisture retention and it wouldn’t dry out, which would cause you additional issues. I’d say 95% of the industry does it this way
Awesome, thanks! You mentioned maybe needing a cut for jumps…. I may need to jump 10’ between stories. With those lights can you cut after the last light if the strand is too long and add a female? The cord on the lights looked to be 18 or 20 gauge.

What would it hurt to wrap that final female connector with electrical tape to waterproof it ? Just pointing it down doesn't seem enough to me.
