not sure if its the same situation, but i live in a small brazilian city (its actually a capital of a state, but compared to many other cities it is pretty small, not even 900k residents) that is still pretty conservative and i usually get some weird looks for my long and painted hair, painted nails and earrings + septum piercing as a cis male, and what i usually try to do mentally is just ignore everyone and focus on my perception of myself. everything that i do with myself i do because i love it and it makes me feel better with myself, so fuck what everybody else thinks. even my family hates it, but what matters to me is mainly my opinion about it and secondly my friend's and significant other's support (oh and try to surround yourself with people that support your every decision, even if they don't personally like). i know it is probably much easier for me as white cis male, but maybe this way of thinking might help someone.

You were my inspiration to accept my punk side I hid for so long and just say "fu€k it" and cut my hair. my parents hated me for it but I'm now mentally stable,happy in my own place with great job, I got my first tattoo this month that is a half sleeve that I designed myself. I recently got a short cut myself (somewhere right in between your before and after from this video)! My hair is much finer than yours, but I get great results bringing out my natural wave by washing, towel blotting, and spraying the top with a salt spray that has a light hold gel in it (I use the one from Lush). I scrunch the longer top up and arrange it, then let it air dry all the way. I brush through the dry, gel-crunchy hair until it's soft and nice, and then define with a tiny bit of hair pomade. Then I spray the top with high hold hairspray to keep the shape in place and help hold the volume. That procedure takes less than 1 hour, and mostly it's just air drying time. And I get maybe 4-5 days out of it without dry shampoo before I have to wash it!

I have also been cutting my own hair for years both long, short, shaved, whatever and your style is such an inspiration. btw i'd try using those scissors with teeth, i think theyre called texturizing scissors for the bangs and evening out any chopped straight neds left from the clippers, theyre also good for thinning and blending and give you more precise control than clippers
Thinning shears really help a pixie hawk look. I use them all the time to maintain between professional cuts. I have super thick hair and thinning it allows my natural hair to really own the look. It also allows for height which is great when I want to jazz it up.

You're probably not going to read this, but i've been watching you for years and i have wanted to have a sidecut for the longest time because of you. Then recently stress got to me and i quickly began to spiral back to anxiety, my worst fear just became a reality. Yesterday tho, i had the courage to finally shave my hair, EVERYONE hated it including my boyfriend who openly admitted to being less phisically attracted to me because of it. Do i care tho? No, i think i look absolutely stunning and it's all thanks to you because you rock every hairstyle so amazingly, and i realized that it's not a sidecut that's going to make me look ugly, if people don't like it it's their problem not mine. If you're going to the choppy look then you got it spot on 👌 I would try to taper the back and blend it a little more to the top of your head a little more.

I took all my courage and i just chopped it off. After that I have never grown my below my neck level. I also had shaved my head nearly 32 times with in these 5years. If you use the guard with the grain instead of against the grain on the crown, it won't cut too much length off but it will lay it down so it doesn't poke out as much
That came out so cute omg! As a fellow short curly haired person i recognise the struggle lmao. When you get out of the shower, dry your hair by flipping forward and just kind of patting it dry against your scalp upside down. My hair looks best when i let it air dry but if you're a hairdryer fan use a diffuser and the lowest heat setting. Don't brush it, try not to run your fingers through it cos youll separate all the curls. Can give it a little shake or fluff if you want to. Products also help to keep the curls from just turning into fluffiness. And you can reset curls without rewashing by just spraying w a little water and smoothing across some conditioner or product. The blessing is that you can kind of do whatever bc its very shapeable, so even if your cut is kinda uneven (i know mine is) it doesnt show. It looks mad cute!
