I heard one of these calls in my backyard and wondered what it was - eventually ended up on this video through googling “bird call that sounds like a laser gun” :P
i was able to whistle the beginning part of this chirp and its funny to hear them call about the same time I start. I knew it was a cardinal and though it was the normal chirp, nice to know its the mating call
