This is where I learnt how to Master a Track like a Pro. Your tutorials are the Best on TH-cam as far as Mastering is concerned. Great tutorial for Mixing as well 👍🏼 Always Deep and Detailed. Be Blessed 🙏🏼
I start all over everytime... Mix it a bit. Export, mix again. Again...also routing for sidechaining/ducking. But everytime you start over with proper mixed stems. You have way less chaos. Most of the time I have 3 mixing projects and 2 (pre) mastering projects for each song. But this is also because I have a bad PC. 8 GB RAM AND A LOT OF HEAVY PLUGINS.😮
I make my own music for myself at home. I used to just sit for ages and ages recording and mixing. Now I try to limit myself to 30 minutes maximum a day. That way I don't get fed up or lose focus. If I do more than one session I only do maybe 20-30 mins. Then leave it for several hours.
I’ve spent three days making a remix and constantly mixing it. Driving me Insane, can’t get it right yet. Feel like just sending it an engineer but it’s not well organised and the whole playlist is a bit of a mess now 😂 I’m gonna start setting more break times, feel like I’m going around in circles haha
If you do production yourself, would you rather bounce stems first and mix from there or be disciplined and work with the production session directly? How about things like melodyne would you bounce it it or keep it organic and direct?
Very nice video. I'm always fighting with the reference tracks, trying to get those high performance levels with low budget equipment. ❤😅 That's somehow my passion.. Ok, I'm just doing it for hobby.
It's important not to chase references too hard - you want to make the mix the best version of the tracks you have, not something bent to try to force it to sound like stuff recorded on different gear by different folks in a different location. I only use references for ball-parking so my mix could appear on a compilation album with the references and not seem out of place.
Hi Streaky i have a cheap interface that only goes up to max( 16bit/48khz with maximum 256 buffer size) without problems. And the only way for me to reduce the output latency and record in real time with my plugins on is changing my DAW sample rate to 96khz that reduces my latency from (11ms to 4ms output and allows me to select a buffer size=80) and my plugins to zero. Is there any problem doing it? Also i was thinking about just recording in 96Khz and resampling to 48khz using Izotope RX to finish my mix.* My compressors have 1ms latency if i use 48Khz and the autotune=3.30ms BUT if change the FLStudio to 96KHZ all compressors go to Zero and the Autotune=2ms
But what if stems come in @ 44.1 kHz? Do you upsample them with RX for the mixing process to get a cleaner result with less aliasing or would you mix at the samplerate the stems come in due to a possible quality loss caused by the sample rate conversion process? Thanks a lot for sharing your experience.
i see so meany mixing tips but noone ever told me how i know when to use them and on what i feel stuck i know a compresor i know mid side i know so much but not when and where to use it and why
How would you cope with reactive tinnitus from every sharp sound making noises in your inner ear? Enjoy what you do guys, because this emotional pain is a total killer
Rule number one - f*^*ck these advices. It’s not the plugin not the gear it’s how you use it and your ear. Fake deadlines are not going to deliver good mix. It’s about mix not about the time amount you spend on it. Once i was mixing a song for a week and it ended up sounding incredible. Client wanted to add and remove stuff on the go together with the producer and it was an amazing experience having a mixx on the SSL console for a week. Nobody set any deadlines. You cant deliver a baby in one moth with 9 women.
Well, real mixing is Art cause we can create different atmospheres and moods for the listener. I don't use Reference Track cause i don't want to clone another mix and every song needs another treatment and accents to become what it is. Reference Track in Stem or Stereo Mastering are ok but no go for mixing. 🤷🏼♂️
the first step in mixing is deciding what the record makes you FEEL, and what you want it to make the listener feel. It's not about identifying 'things to fix'.
@@flow.3411no it’s not. Of course an intent has to be there in the writing, but it also has to be there in the production and the mix. A good mix makes you laugh or cry or dance or whatever the song is supposed to make you feel. It’s not about clarity and certainly not about an absence of errors that you’ve corrected. Plenty of mixes that are all ‘corrected’ and free of errors are still boring and emotionally disconnected.
Best channel on youtube! straight to the point and golden tips! Thanks mate!
Shout out Streaky that notes information is really useful‼️💪🏼💯

I often find myself not being able to complete my notes on the first listen. Do you pause the track each time you notice stuff?

Do you use a reference track with the same tempo locked in or just any tempo?
Great channel...
This is more of a lifestyle than a routine!

You're rushing ahead
thats in the writing, not the mixing..a badly written track won't feel better or different because of how it is mixed..🤷🏼♂

@flow.3411 but the engineer still must improve upon the FEEL of the record. Michael Brauer says exactly this literally ALL the time.
